Product Usage Instructions
1. Instructions for Use
Always keep the instructions for future reference. This equipment is designed for climbing purposes and should be used in accordance with the guidelines provided in this manual. Connectors play a crucial role in the safety system for climbers.
2. Ratings
Ensure you do not load the climbing gear beyond its rated strength to prevent failure. Refer to the minimum breaking strength indicated on the product.
3. Care and Maintenance
Avoid contact with corrosive materials like battery acid, solvents, or chlorine bleach. After exposure to saltwater, rinse and dry textile products, while metal products should be rinsed, dried, and lubricated.
4. Inspection, Retirement, and Lifespan
Regularly inspect your climbing gear before and after each use. Retire any gear that fails inspection or reaches its maximum lifespan, usually 10 years from the date of manufacture for plastic or textile components. Metal gear lifespan is not age-limited.
Frequently Asked Questions

KEY:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Keep instructions for future reference.
This pamphlet explains the correct use and some common misuses for the climbing equipment depicted in the illustrations. Other possible misuses exist. Correct equipment use and the use of redundant systems will reduce some of the risks associated with climbing. If you lack experience, use this equipment under proper supervision. Connectors are one part of the safety system which protects the climber from a fall from height. (See accompanying illustrations)
RATINGS
Climbing gear strength ratings give the minimum breaking strength of the product. Loading climbing gear to its rated strength will cause it to fail.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Climbing gear must not come into contact with corrosive materials such as battery acid, battery fumes, solvents, chlorine bleach, antifreeze, isopropyl alcohol or gasoline. After contact with saltwater or salt air, always rinse and dry textile products, and rinse, dry and lubricate metal products.
INSPECTION, RETIREMENT AND LIFESPAN
Climbing gear does not last forever. Inspect your gear before and after each use, and retire it when it fails inspection or when it reaches its maximum lifespan, 10 years after the date of manufacture for plastic or textile products/components, even if unused and properly stored. The lifespan of metal gear is not limited by age.
See the accompanying inspection illustrations. Retire immediately if any of the illustrated conditions are found.
- Damage and extreme conditions may shorten your equipment’s useful life, and could conceivably require retiring the gear during its first use.
- Inspect your gear immediately whenever you suspect damage during use.
- Additional factors that may shorten your equipment’s useful life: Falls, gear dropped from height, abrasion, wear, rust, corrosion, exposure to salt water/air, harsh environments, extreme temperatures, battery acid or battery fumes, or prolonged exposure to sunlight.
- If you have any doubts about the dependability of your gear, or after a serious fall, retire it.
- Destroy retired gear to prevent future use.
- The lifespan of gear is measured from the date of manufacture, not the date of sale.
Refer to the Markings section of these instructions in order to determine the date of manufacture of this equipment
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
CHOOSING OTHER COMPONENTS
Rock climbing and mountaineering require the use of dynamic ropes (EN892) that absorb energy when arresting a fall. Use this product with other compatible CE certified mountaineering equipment. Black Diamond carabiners conform to EN 12275:2013.
