AquaFuge 30RS Sump

The CPR AquaFugeTM 30RS is an easy to install, under-the-tank sump. The large refugium and sump chambers give you plenty of space for biological and physical filtration. Both chambers have adjustable water levels to meet your filtration needs and match the specs of your equipment. Add your preferred substrate and macro algae to the refugium chamber to create the optimal environment for beneficial microorganisms and to add biological filtration to your system. With the large sump chamber you have plenty of room for heaters, a protein skimmer, and media reactors.

To place your AquaFugeTM 30RS into operation: :

  1. Open the packaging and carefully inspect the unit for damaged or missing parts. You should have:
    1. Lid Qty: 1
    2. Thumb Screws Qty: 8
    3. 4” Sock Silencers Qty: 2
    4. 4” Filter Socks Qty: 2
    5. Refugium Chamber Gate Qty: 1
    6. Sump Body Qty: 1
    7. Skimmer Chamber Gate Qty: 1
    8. 1” PVC Drain Pipes Qty: 2
    9. Bulkhead Plate Qty: 1
    10. 1” Slip x Slip Bulkheads Qty: 2
If any items are damaged or missing, please contact your dealer immediately.

  2. Remove the Bulkhead plate from the sump and unwrap the lid and sock silencers. Ensure that the bulkheads and drain pipes are installed snugly. We do not recommend gluing the drain pipe into the bulkheads. One of the bulkhead lockrings has been modified to clear one of the glued in cubes, make sure the locking is positioned correctly to clear the cube when installing.

  3. Install the socks and sock silencers into the holes in the sock chamber. Once the socks and silencers are installed the lid can be put in place.

  4. Carefully install the sump into the tank stand or location the sump will be operated in. At this point the drain plumbing can be connected to the sump. The two 1” slip x slip bulkheads will accept 1” PVC pipe and 1” male socket plumbing fittings. The bulkheads are made of ABS plastic. If you decide to permanently glue PVC fittings or pipe into we recommend using the appropriate ABS to PVC transition cement.

  5. Install the return pump into the pump chamber and connect to the return line plumbing. If using rigid plumbing for the return we recommend using a short length of flexible tubing between the pump and rigid plumbing to make servicing the pump easier and to eliminate any vibration.

  6. If any glue has been used to assemble the drain or return plumbing we recommend waiting 24 hours before running any water through the system to allow the glue to fully cure.

  7. Adjust the black refugium compartment gate to the desired height. Adjust the clear sump chamber gate to the height required by any equipment in the sump chamber.

  8. You can now install any equipment into the sump chamber according to manufacturer instructions.

  9. Before placing the AquaFugeTM 30RS Sump into operation, we recommend that you now add any substrate to the regufugium chamber. Follow the instructions provided with your substrate. When filling the sump you may want to fill the refugium chamber part way and then wait for the substrate to settle before filling completely.

  10. Initially it may be necessary to fill the sump one to two inches higher than the desired water line to compensate for the air in the plumbing. Run the return pump briefly to fill the plumbing with water and then turn the pump off. Wait for a period of time and check the system for any leaks. Once this is done, restart the return pump and watch for leaks. We recommend turning on any other reactors or filters at this time.

  11. We recommend the use of an auto top off (ATO) system to keep water levels stable. When installing the ATO sensors and tubing we recommend installing them in the return pump chamber to ensure the pump is constantly submerged in water.

  12. Once the system is running and water levels have stabilized make any necessary adjustments to the sump and refugium chamber gates to get the water levels where you desire. If the return pump is running dry either more water needs to be added to the return pump chamber or the pump flow rate is higher than the overflow(s) can handle. If the water level is too high in either of the chambers and adjusting the gate does not help it will be necessary to remove water from the system.

  13. Now it will be possible to add any macro algae, microorganisms, and supplements to the refugium chamber. It may be necessary to turn of the pump during this time. We recommend following the instructions provided by the supplier or retailers of these products. You can also install your refugium light at this time

Your AquaFugeTM 30RS Sump is now operational!
