How to prepare your MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) for Apple Trade
In
If you opted to trade in your MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) when you purchased a new Apple product, you’ll get a trade-in kit in the mail with everything you need to ship your MacBook to Apple. Here’s everything you need to know about preparing and packing your MacBook to trade it in.
Before you ship your Mac
- Back up your data. If you need help transferring data, schedule an appointment at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or an Apple Store at getsupport.apple.com. It is your sole responsibility to back up all existing data, software, and/or programs from your product. Apple is not responsible for loss, recovery, or compromise of data, software, or programs on your trade-in product.
- Sign out of iCloud.
- Turn off your firmware password.
- Deauthorize your computer for content purchases.
- Erase your device.
Pack your product using the included packaging materials
WARNING : To ensure safe transportation of your trade-in device, follow these packaging instructions exactly as described and shown in the illustrations.

Remove the plastic sleeve from the box, and slide your device into the plastic sleeve.

Peel off the adhesive backing.

Fold down the top flap of the plastic sleeve.

Remove the top pair of foam inserts from the box.

Place your device on top of the inserts at the bottom of the box.

Place the top pair of foam inserts on top of and at the sides of your device. Don’t put your charger into the box.

Place the labels on the box.

Seal the box with the tape provided.*
*Apple is not responsible for any damage during shipping.
Ship your product to Apple
- Find the name of the courier on the return shipping label.
- Find the name of the courier on the label (or elsewhere in the packing materials) and visit its website to arrange a collection or find a drop-off location.
- Get a receipt from the courier.
- Check your new device shipment email for a link to check the status of your trade-in.
- Once you ship your device to Apple, you can’t cancel the trade-in.
