MEDI-RENT SC 2008 DL Bio Compression Pump

This protocol has been developed as a guide only. Please consult with your therapist for treatment settings to suit your individual needs.

Introduction

The Bio Compression pump has multiple settings that can be optimised for the individual.
This document is intended as a guide for patients, if you have concerns about treatment effect or settings please contact your health professional. If you need further clarification on how to change settings please contact Medi-Rent on 1300 726 666 if in Australia or 0800 725 555 if in NZ.

Using the Biocompression pump for the first time

  1. Refer to the Quick Setup Guide prior to reading this document.

  2. Before you turn the Bio Compression pump on check your pressure is set to a level consistent with your therapist recommendation.
    Pressure: 50 mmHg
    CYCLE TIME: 60
    Duration: 60 minutes
    FOCUS: OFF

  3. After 10 minutes of treatment, follow the steps on the next page to navigate through making adjustments to the settings.
Your body will adapt to compression with regular use. TIP: For best effect, review the settings every three days to ensure you are receiving optimal results. Allow the pump to run for 10 minutes before each adjustment.

A. Find the pressure that is both effective and comfortable for you.

Is The Sleeve Firm When Fully Inflated?

NOTE: Do not increase pressure greater than 30mmHg in any one session.

TIP:
If the pressure is causing pain, your body will resist fluid evacuation. Do not persist with pressure at a level that causes discomfort or pain.

B. find the CYCLE TIME that allows perfect balance of inflation & break duration

Is The Compression Time Too Long Each Cycle?

TIP:
Cycle time options: 60 (fastest), 75, 90, 105, 120 (slowest)

B. Find the duration & frequency for best treatment effect

Can You Tolerate A Treatment Session Of 60 Minutes?

TIP:
There is no limit to how many sessions you can do per day. When oedema is present, two or more sessions per day will achieve a better effect

  1. After each session reflect on treatment comfort and effect.
After each session reflect on treatment comfort and
effect

  2. Next session start at the new settings.
You will reach a plateau in progression where the treatment is comfortable and effective and does not require further progression. Until you reach this point, it is recommended the settings are reviewed every 3 days.

FOCUS MODES

All Bio Compression applications are recommended to commence treatment in sequential mode with focus off unless otherwise prescribed by a healthcare professional. Alternative focus modes are offered for targeted treatment.

FOCUS OFF. SEQUENTIAL FOR ALL CONDITIONS

The air chambers will inflate from foot to thigh (and then to abdomen if you have the Biopants garment), all chambers will remain inflated for a period, then partially deflate before the cycle restarts.

Foot

TIP:
This is the most effective mode for clearing soft oedema from the limb.

FOCUS F1F3 – DISTAL FOCUS

For increased compression duration on the foot.

The air chambers will fill in a sequential pattern distal to proximal direction. For the first 10 minutes of treatment the F1F3 FOCUS will double the air chamber hold time for chambers at the foot end of the sleeve (i.e. Chambers 1, 2, and 3 in an 8 chamber sleeve).

Focus F1f3 - Distal Focus

FOCUS F3F5 – MIDDLE FOCUS

For increased compression duration around the knee to thigh region.

The air chambers will fill in a sequential pattern distal to proximal direction. For the first 10 minutes of treatment the F3F5 FOCUS will double the air chamber hold time for chambers in the middle of the sleeve. (i.e. Chambers 3, 4, and 5 in an 8 chamber sleeve).

Focus F3f5 - Middle Focus

TIP:
You may apply the pump garment over taping, foam chip bags/strips or other shaping products if suggested by your therapist.

FOCUS F6F8 – PROXIMAL FOCUS

For increased compression duration to the thigh and abdomen region.
The air chambers will fill in a sequential pattern distal to proximal direction. For the first 10 minutes of treatment the F6F8 FOCUS will double the air chamber hold time for chambers in the proximal end of the sleeve. (i.e. Chambers 6, 7, and 8 in an 8 chamber sleeve).

Focus F6f8 - Proximal Focus
