Fit Testing Instructions
The probed earmuff cushions are used for testing purposes only. After testing, be sure to replace the probed earmuff cushions with cushions that properly seal and are not cracked or stiff.

  1. Remove and replace employee earmuff cushions with Sensear Earmuff Probed Test Cushions (PN: SMHK0007). Test probes should be facing the front of the earmuffs on each side of the muffs (Fig.1).
  2. Instruct the employee to fit the earmuffs with test probes facing forward (Fig. 1).
  3. To test, insert the 3M™ E-A-Rfit™ test system microphones (red microphone, right ear, and blue microphone, left ear) in a twisting motion (Fig. 2). Hang the microphone clip onto each side of the headset (Fig. 3) or if safety glasses are worn, you can clip onto the safety glasses.
  4. The 3M™ E-A-Rfit™ test system is a 3M™ system and specifically designed for 3M Peltor headsets for best results or for comparing headsets choose the 3M™ Peltor™ headset that you are comparing to or use the table below to select a similar headset (table 1) in the 3M™ test system software.

  5. Clean probed test cushions with hygiene wipes for reuse. Probed test cushions should be replaced upon any indication of cracking or loosening of the test probe, or after 20 separate microphone insertions, whichever occurs first. If PAR values are unexpectedly low on either side, check the fit of the headset. As needed, check the probe tube for cracking and loosening at the cushion and coupler ends, and replace it.
