Display – Operating Modes & Symbols

The T-Smart water heater has 5 user-selectable operating modes and 2 automatic built-in modes, working in the background and two modes in case of the detected system errors. Press the ‘Modes’ button to switch between the modes. All operating modes and functionalities are listed and explained in this user manual.

Manual
This mode allows you to manually set the desired water temperature, in the range between 10 and 70°C. To
set the temperature, use either the + or – buttons. The temperature changes by 5°C each time one of the buttons is pressed. If your water heater usage is unpredictable, in terms of hot water needs, this is the optimal mode for you.
ECO
In Eco mode, the water temperature is kept at 55°C. This temperature level enables optimal long-term water heater operation, in terms of energy savings, lower heat losses, hot water availability and heating element durability.
Timer
Timer mode, allows you to program the water heater in line with your needs. Water temperature can be set hourly, daily and weekly and saved as a personalized plan. The programming is done via a mobile application. Please read section 2.3 of this user manual for more explanation about mobile application and Timer mode usage.
Travel
Travel mode is recommended when you are not planning to use the heater for a longer period of time (i.e. when away from home.) In this mode, water temperature is automatically set to 10°C in order to prevent potential freezing and unnecessary energy consumption while users are absent.
Smart
Smart mode activates the advanced software for heating optimization, reducing energy consumption.
The smart function enables the water heater to learn hot water consumption habits and to adjust water heating to your needs. This means that hot water is available when needed, but made with major energy savings. The smart mode consists of two different phases:

During the first phase, which lasts 7 days, the software monitors your water consumption. This information is recorded and subsequently processed. Start recording by selecting the Smart mode. During the recording phase, the minimum temperature is maintained automatically at 60°C. When the recording phase is completed, the second phase and replication of your hot water consumption habits will start automatically.

The second phase starts the following week (after 7 recording days) and all data obtained in the first phase is being applied and replicated. Recorded data in the first week will be replicated until the Smart mode is reset. Reset and a new recording is recommended when hot water usage is changed. To reset and start the new recording, hold the “Decrease Temperature” (see Fig.3) button for 3 seconds, while being in Smart mode. The new recording phase will start automatically.

It is not recommended to activate other operating modes of the heater during the recording time. If you switch to another operating mode, the recording will be interrupted and your habits won’t be replicated in the second phase. This means that there will be no additional energy savings and no hot water prepared according to your needs in the following weeks.

Recorded data is stored in the water heater’s internal memory. Even long term electrical network failure will not affect stored data.

Note: If a power supply failure occurs during the recording phase, the data becomes invalid and Smart mode reset is needed.

You need to connect your mobile device with your smart water heater in order to use Smart mode.

If you have a very unstable and unpredictable hot water usage (i.e. unknown number of household members), Eco mode will suit you better than Smart mode.

For more details about Smart mode, please see our full user manual at www.tsmart.co.uk

BACKGROUND FUNCTIONS

Anti-Legionella
A built-in function, operating in the background. For additional safety, advanced software is constantly monitoring the water temperature. If the heater does not reach 60 °C for 15 days in a row, the Anti-Legionella cycle will be launched automatically and the water is heated
to 60 °C for 30 minutes. This process will remove all potentially harmful bacteria from the water.
Frost Protection
The smart thermostat prevents water temperature from dropping below 10°C. The water temperature is constantly kept at 10°C, in order to prevent harmful freezing in winter periods.
IMPORTANT:
The heater must not be exposed to temperatures below +2°C.
Note: Some of the functions are time related. Time is set automatically via Internet or mobile application.

T-Smart Installation

If you have purchased the T-Smart Accessory (TIHTS) only, please proceed to step 5.

  1. Check your mains power voltage matches the voltage rating indicated on the label of the plastic terminal cover.

  2. The immersion heater must be fitted horizontally. Heaters mounted horizontally are typically less than 450mm but should be at least 75mm shorter than the horizontal width of the tank into which it is fitted.

  3. The immersion heater should only be installed in a system where the heating element is always below the water level such as in a cistern fed tank.

  4. Install the heater into the tank using the gasket or
“O” ring seal as supplied, tighten with a good fitting spanner to prevent any damage to the heater. Then fill the system with water according to your standard procedure to ensure that all air pockets are removed and check for leaks around the joint.

  5. Remove the cap from the existing immersion heater. Keep the nut as you will need this later on.

  6. Disconnect the Live and Neutral wires from the existing Immersion, and remove the Thermostat.

  1. Connect the link wire to the T-Smart Thermostat.
  2. Insert the T-Smart Thermostat body and ensure the terminals fit within the spade connectors.
  3. Connect the Live and Neutral Wires to the T-Smart (Ensure the connections are good and solid)
  4. Ensure all wires are secured into the wiring clamp in the head of the immersion
  5. Pass the link wire through the centre of the lower cap and secure into place, ensuring the wire clamp is aligned with the cut out and the earth stud is showing through one of the pre-drilled holes.
  6. Secure the lower cap section with the nut from the existing immersion.
  7. Connect the Link Wire to the back of the LCD in the upper cap section, ensure you have made a good solid connection.
  8. Connect the upper cap section and lower cap sections by aligning the arrows moulded into the cap sections, rotate the upper cap to engage the locking system. The upper cap can be rotated through 360 Degrees to ensure the T-Smart LCD is the right way up.
  9. The cylinder must be full with water and the Immersion heater element is fully submerged before powering up.
  10. Turn on the Fuse to enable power to the T-Smart and it will engage in its start-up process.
