IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

When using any electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons. These precautions include:

  1. Read all instructions before installing or using this heater.
  2. Use this heater only as described in this manual. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  3. This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces.
  4. Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or people with disabilities and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
  5. Always unplug heater when not in use. Do not operate any heater after it malfunctions. Disconnect power and have heater inspected by a qualified electrician before reusing.
  6. Do not operate any heater with a damaged cord or after it malfunctions, has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Return heater to authorized service facility for examination or mechanical adjustment or repair.
  7. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
  8. To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
  9. A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
  10. This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas and similar indoor locations. Never locate heater where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container
  11. To disconnect heater, turn controls to off, then remove plug from outlet.
  12. Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet/ receptacle. Never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap.
  13. Do not touch the heater during operation as the body becomes hot and could cause burns. Particular attention has to be given where children and vulnerable people are present.
  14. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  15. Do not allow any cables, furnishing, flammable materials, or other items come in contact with any surface of the heater.
  16. The heater must not be located immediately below a socket/outlet. The heater must not be located in front of a socket/outlet. Sockets/ outlets should be located outside the physical footprint of the units to minimize heat build-up behind the heater.

WARNING: To Reduce the Risk of Fire – keep combustible material such as furniture, papers, clothes, and curtains at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front of the heater and away from the sides and rear.

Safety Information

RISK OF FIRE/EXPLOSION

  14. The heater can only be installed horizontally. DO NOT install the heater vertically. Failure to do this may cause the heating element within the tube to sag and cause premature burnout.
    WARNING: The heater must not be used if the glass panel is damaged.
    WARNING: For outdoor installation all connections must be made in accordance with local electrical code regulations for outdoor wiring. Contact a qualified electrician if needed.

NOTE: The heater is equipped with a tilting switch as a safety feature. A non-horizontal installation will activate the tilting switch, which will power the unit off. To turn the heater back on after the tilting switch
has been activated, turn the power off at the power switch, unplug the heater, verify the installation, and turn the unit the back on.

WARNING: This heater must be grounded. The infrared electric heating system comes equipped with a heavy-duty, 16/3 gauge and grounded plug. The appliance must be used with an outlet that has been installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances. Make sure that the heater is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as plug shown as Figure

  1. DO NOT use an adapter with this product. Check with a licensed electrician if the grounding instructions are not understood completely or if the wall outlet does not match the plug.
Heater Location

The DIRP electric heater produces radiant heat, which heats objects and people rather than the air. The DIRP heater must be installed in such a way that objects and people are within the direct path of the heater.

It is recommended that the DIRP heater be installed indoors or in outdoor spaces where there are 1, 2, 3, or 4 enclosed sides.

CAUTION: When installing outdoors it is recommended the heater is positioned where it will be protected from exposure to extreme weather such as snow and ice.

Maximum heat is directly under the heater, and the temperature decreases as you move away from the heater. It is recommended that the heater be positioned directly above the area to be heated.

Mounting

WARNING:

  • The heater must be installed on a vertical wall. The heater is equipped with a tilt switch, which will prevent the heater from operating if it is installed on a sloped The heater must only be operated in a horizontal position with a maximum 2° slope.

Tools required:

  1. Carefully select the installation site, ensuring that all minimum clearances and safety requirements have been met. For a studded wall, the holes must be aligned with the wall framework where possible. Use a stud finder to make sure as many holes as possible will be aligned with the wall frame/studs.
  2. Position the wall-mounting bracket flush against the wall and mark the location of 1 of the mounting
  3. Place the level onto the top of the wall-mounting bracket. Level the wall-mounting bracket, and mark the 2 other mounting screw locations on the wall, ensuring that the wall bracket remains level
  4. Install the mounting bracket on the wall using the 3 provided screws. For concrete wall installations, use the provided screws in conjunction with the provided concrete anchors (Figure 4). For installations on other wall materials such as drywall (without studs) or brick ensure suitable mounting hardware is used.
  5. Position the heater on the bracket at the desired angle. The heater can be wall-mounted at a 35° or 45° angle directed toward the ground (Figure 5). Ensure the flange on the unit is fully inserted into the slot on the bracket (Figure 6).
  6. Secure the heater to the bracket on one side using the bracket hardware (bolt and wing nut) (Figure 7).
    NOTE: The bracket hardware can be installed on either side of the bracket.
Operation

Warning:

  • Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or people with disabilities and whenever the heater is left operating
  • This heater is not equipped with a device to control the room Do not use this heater in small rooms when they are occupied by persons not capable of leaving the room on their own, unless constant supervision is provided.
  • DO NOT USE the heater on the table or on the ground. If the heater is used in this manner, it will activate the tilting switch. This will cut power to the unit if it is positioned
  • Ensure electrical cord is routed and positioned away from the heater

Operation

General Operation

NOTE: The distance between the heater and the remote control should be less than 10 feet (3 m), and the remote control must be pointed directly toward the heater.

  1. Connect the heater to a 120 V power outlet. Set the power switch to the I position to put the heater in standby The display will show a flashing —— to indicate that the unit is in standby mode.
  2. Point the remote control toward the heater and press the On The heater starts at the high heat setting (the display will show P3).
  3. Select the desired heat setting by selecting Low , Med (medium), or High setting on the remote control. The display will show P1 , P2 , or P3 to indicate thelowmedium
  4. Press standby to put the heater in Standby mode.
    NOTE: There is a built-in safety feature that will automatically set the heater to go into standby mode after eight hours of continuous operation, unless the timer is activated.

WARNING: Ensure there is no flammable or combustible material in contact or in proximity of the heater body or top baffle grill before and during operation of this appliance. Ensure heater (body and top baffle grill) is always free of any obstructions.

Timer Function

The heater comes with a programmable timer that will automatically place the heater in standby mode after a predetermined amount of time in intervals of one hour (1-13 hours). The remote has buttons for 1, 2, 4, and 6 hours.

  1. Press the button corresponding to the number of hours to add to the timer.
    For example, to add 3 hours press buttons 1hr and 2hr. To add 13 hours, press buttons 1hr , 2hr , 4hr , and 6hr.

  2. Press the same button again to remove the corresponding number of hours from the For example, if the timer is set to 3 hours, pressing 2hr will set the timer to 1 hour.

The number of hours remaining on the timer will be shown on the display. After the set number of hours have elapsed, the unit will enter standby mode and the display will show a flashing ——.

  1. To clear the timer, press the On or Standby button on the remote

Maintenance

Remote Control Battery Replacement

  1. Slide the battery cover open on the remote
  2. Install 2 AAA batteries in the battery
  3. Close the battery

Battery must be recycled or disposed of properly. Check with your Local Authority or Retailer for recycling advice in your area

WARNING

  • Disconnect power before attempting any maintenance or cleaning to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or damage to
  • Do not attempt to service or clean heater while unit is operating, as there is a hazard from electric shock, and injury potential from hot heating
  • To avoid the risk of burn or injury wait a minimum of 30 minutes for the heater to cool before attempting to clean or

Cleaning the Heater

Ensure the unit is unplugged and has cooled completely before cleaning the unit.

Use a damp cloth to clean the glass and surfaces of the heater. Do not use any harsh cleaning agents or abrasive materials.

It is recommended that you clean the heater every 3 months to maintain optimal function and appearance of the heater. Additional cleaning and maintenance is recommended if the heater is installed in a corrosive environment or exposed to chemicals in the atmosphere such as those from cigarette smoke and pollution to prevent wear and tarnish of the heater

Troubleshooting

WARNING: There are no user serviceable parts inside the heater. Any servicing other than cleaning of the heater should be performed by an authorized service representative.

Troubleshooting prior to calling a service technician:

Unit does not turn on.

| Check electrical plug connection at wall outlet. Ensure the unit is installed correctly.

Ensure the unit is installed on a vertical wall.

Ensure the unit power switch is in the on ( I ) position. Replace batteries in remote control.

Check circuit breaker.

Associated circuit breaker trips.| The circuit is loaded beyond its capacity. Do not load beyond 80% capacity. Connect the heater to a dedicated 15 Amp circuit.
Heater smells when first used.| This is caused by oil or dust left over from the manufacturing process and will stop after a short time.
Faint smell for short periods after turning on the heater.| This is normal and should stop after a short time.
Heater smells when turned on after periods of non-use.| This is the result of build-up debris and dust on the heater. Switch the heater off and allow it to cool down, and clean external surfaces before operating.
Clinking noises when heater is turned on and after being turned off.| This is expansion and contraction noises of the heater’s metal components and is a normal function of the heater.



Poor heating performance.

| Exposure to extreme ambient conditions such as high winds and excessively cold temperatures can reduce the heating performance of an outdoor installation.
Unit is not installed in correct position, possibly too high or heater is too small for area.
Follow maintenance instructions for cleaning the glass.


Display flashes error code “E3”.

| Excessive temperature accumulation on PCB. Ensure heater is installed with the clearances specified in this manual; relocate the heater if necessary. If issue is not resolved, contact technical support.

One-Year Limited Warranty

Products to which this limited warranty applies

This limited warranty applies to your newly purchased Dimplex Infrared Indoor/Outdoor Heater. This limited warranty applies only to purchases made in any province of Canada except for Yukon Territory, Nunavut, or Northwest Territories or in any of the 50 States of the USA (and the District of Columbia) except for Hawaii and Alaska. This limited warranty applies to the original purchaser of the product only and is not transferable.

Products excluded from this limited warranty

IR Halogen Heating Elements are not covered by this limited warranty and are the sole responsibility of the owner/purchaser. Products purchased in Yukon Territory, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Hawaii, or Alaska are not covered by this limited warranty. Products purchased in these States, provinces, or territories are sold AS IS without warranty or condition of any kind (including, without limitation, any implied warranties or conditions of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose) and the entire risk of as to the quality and performance of the products is with the purchaser, and in the event of a defect the purchaser assumes the entire cost of all necessary servicing or repair.

What this limited warranty covers and for how long

Products covered by this limited warranty have been tested and inspected prior to shipment and, subject to the provisions of this warranty, Glen Dimplex Americas Ltd. (Glen Dimplex Americas herein) warrants such products to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of the first purchase of such product.

The limited 12-month warranty period also applies to any implied warranties that may exist under applicable law. Some jurisdictions do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to the purchaser.

What this limited warranty does not cover

This limited warranty does not apply to products that have been repaired (except by Glen Dimplex Americas or its authorized service representatives) or otherwise altered. This limited warranty does further not apply to defects resulting from misuse, abuse, accident, neglect, incorrect installation, improper maintenance or handling, or operation with an incorrect power source.

This limited warranty does not cover normal wear, such as warping or discoloration of the surface of the heater.

What you must do to get service under this limited warranty

Defects must be brought to the attention of Technical Service by contacting them at www.dimplex.com/contact_us or by calling 1-888-346-7539. Please have proof of purchase, catalogue/ model and serial numbers available when calling. Limited warranty service requires a proof of purchase of the product.

What Glen Dimplex Americas will do in the event of a defect

In the event a product or part covered by this limited warranty is proven to be defective in material or workmanship during the 12-month limited warranty period you have the following rights:

  • Glen Dimplex Americas will in its sole discretion either repair or replace such defective product or part without charge. If Glen Dimplex Americas is unable to repair or replace such product or part, or if repair or replacement is not commercially practicable or cannot be timely made, Glen Dimplex Americas may, in lieu of repair or replacement, choose to refund the purchase price for such product or part.
  • Limited warranty service will be performed solely by dealers or service agents of Glen Dimplex Americas authorized to provide limited warranty
  • The purchaser is responsible for removal and transportation of such product or part (and any repaired or replacement product or part) to and from the authorized dealer’s or service agent’s place of
  • This limited warranty does not entitle the purchaser to on-site or in-home On-site or in-home services may be performed at the purchaser’s specific request and expense at Glen Dimplex Americas then-current rates for such services.
  • Glen Dimplex Americas will not be responsible for, and the limited warranty services shall not include, any expense incurred for installation or removal of the product or part (or any replacement product or part) or any labour or transportation costs. Such costs shall be the purchaser’s responsibility.

How State and Provincial law apply

This limited warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. The provisions of the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the Sale of Goods shall not apply to this limited warranty or the sale of products covered by this limited warranty.
