STETSOM STM0803 Audio Mixer Automotive User Manual
Introduction
The STM0803 sound mixer has been developed to provide high performance and sound fidelity with little noise levels and harmonic distortion. It’s ideal for anyone who wants precise settings to produce professional sound.
Resources
The STM0803 has 3 input channels with 8 connections for Microphone (XLR) and Line (P10 and RCA), as well as rotary controls that control each channel independently. The controls are:
- Gain control (GAIN) to adjust the input signal level and 4 controls for equalization of ±15dB (HIGH, MID HIGH, MID LOW, AND LOW);
- Button (MUTE) that turns the channel on/off end the volume (LEVEL) varies in intensity from 0 to 100%;
- Signal indicator lights (SIGNAL) that are green and also signal saturation (CLIP) and MUTE indicators that are red.
- It has 1 main output channel (MAIN) that receives and mixes the signal from all the channels, the MAIN has 1 P10 connection and 2 RCA connections, a 60mm sliding volume control (MAIN LEVEL), and a VU Meter with 12 LEDs that show the audio signal level.
The STM0803 also has an auxiliary output channel (AUX) that receives the signal from the MAIN and releases it through one P10 connections and two RCA connection with rotating potentiometers for volume (LEVEL) and phase adjustment (PHASE)
Before installing
Read this manual carefully before installing the console. You must follow the instructions for the product’s installation and connections to guarantee optimal performance. If necessary, get in touch with our company.
Before use, pay attention to the following information:
- Make sure the appliance switched it off before adding or removing any connections. That prevents possible damage to appliances connected to the console;
- Keep all cables as far away as possible from the ignition cables, electronic injection modules, and starter switch since they may cause noise interference;
- Always use good quality cables and connectors. That guarantees quality and sound fidelity;
- To avoid damaging the cables, make sure that they do not touch sharp metal edges.
Important: Use a 1A fuse 30 centimeters from the battery as the best precaution.
Installation
For installation, choose a place with easy access to the product. The fixing, when necessary, should be done through the holes protected by plastic finishes. Remove the latches and fasten with screws.
Inputs, Controls and Outputs
-
MIC e LINE: Balanced input with XLR (Cannon) and P10 connector, ideal for connecting dynamic microphones. This inputs does not supply +48V Phantom Power to condenser type microphones, which in turn only work with this power.
-
LINE: Unbalanced inputs with P10 (TRS 1/4“) and RCA connectors, designed to receive high-level signals such as CD/DVD/MP3 player, musical instruments, preamps, and other sound equipment.
Note: All inputs are unbalanced but can receive balanced or unbalanced signals. -
GAIN: This control allows to adjust the console’s input gain. The red LED (CLIP) indicates the signal saturation.
-
HIGH: With this control it’s possible to boost or attenuate by ±15dB the high frequencies of the audio signal.
-
MID HIGH: With this control it’s possible to boost or attenuate by ±15dB the mid-high frequencies of the audio signal.
-
MID LOW: With this control it’s possible to boost or attenuate by ±15dB the mid-low frequencies of the audio signal.
-
LOW: With this control it’s possible to boost or attenuate by ±15dB the low frequencies of the audio signal.
-
MUTE: With this switch it’s possible to enable or disable the channel signal without having to adjust the channel’s audio level.
When pressed, the red LED (CLIP) will remain accessible. -
LEVEL CHANNELS: This control possible to adjust the signal level that will go from the channel to the main output (MAIN).
-
MAIN OUT: It has two RCA connectors and one P10 connector.
This output mixed signals from all channels -
AUX OUT: It has two RCAtype connectors and one P10.
This output contains mixed signals from all channels.
It has rotary control (AUX LEVEL), in which it’s possible to adjust the level of signal that will send to the output AUX OUT.
This output also has the phase adjustment (AUX PHASE), which allows doing variables from the rotation by the signal phase 0 to 180º. -
VU: You can monitor the MAIN OUT signal output strength by watching the LEDs.
-
MAIN LEVEL: The 60mm sliding (MAIN LEVEL) allows you to adjust the overall volume (L+R) which will be sent to the console’s outputs (AUX OUT and MAIN OUT)
Power supply and remote
-
POSITIVE POWER (+12V): Connect the RED wire (central terminal of the connector) from the power harness to the battery’s POSITIVE POLE (+12V) using a 17 AWG wire.
-
NEGATIVE/GROUND (GND): Connect the BLACK wire (external terminal of the connector) from the power harness to the battery’s NEGATIVE POLE using 17 AWG wire.
-
INPUT FOR REMOTE TURN ON (REM IN): The RED wire (center terminal of the connector) from the remote wire harness can be connected to the remote output of an radio/player using a 18 AWG cable, or through an on/off switch in the +12V.
-
OUTPUT FOR REMOTE TURN ON (REM OUT): The BLACK wire (outer terminal of the connector) of the remote wire harness can be used to power other sound systems from the remote turn on.
Use a 18 AWG cable. -
LED POWER (blue LED): Indicates that the STM0803 is on.

Troubleshooting
DOES NOT TURN ON OR BLUE LED DOESN’T LIGHT UP:
- The power cables aren’t connected correctly (terminals +12V, GND and REM).
- The power cables have a poor connection. Check the connections.
- REM without signal. Check to see if the REM connection is receiving about +12V of current.
- Poor ground connection, Check the connections.
NO AUDIO SIGNAL:
- Channel and or MAIN level control is at the lowest setting, increase the setting.
- Channel MUTE button pressed, release the button by pressing it again.
- The signal cables from the channels or MAIN are disconnected. Check the connections.
DISTORTED AUDIO SIGNAL:
- Distorted/saturated audio signal. Adjust the volume level of the signal source. Decrease the gain control of the mixer input channels.
UNWANTED NOISE:
- All RCA and power cables should be checked beforehand for irregularities and corrected if necessary.
- Use cables that suppress interference on the spark plugs.
- Route the incoming and outgoing RCA cables away from any other cables since they are more sensitive to interference.
- Install a separate power source (+12V) for the sound system.
- Ground the console properly. Remove paint from the chassis at the selected point, and connect the wire using a grounded terminal. In order to prevent rust, insulate it with paint.
- Place the ground wire for the sound mixer as close as possible to the grounding of other audio equipment used together.
- Don’t loop the ground wire. Avoid using multiple grounds. If possible, use a star connection where all the grounds run from a single point.
Protection
- Short Circuit (Resettable Thermal Fuse): Remote Ouput
