Instruction Manual

Introduction

Thank you for purchasing this TAGA Harmony power filter.
PF-DC series power filters combine functions of power noise filtering and DC component blocking.
The electricity network in our homes or workplaces is exposed to different interferences for instance electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by appliances connected to the same network (refrigerators, air conditioners, computers, etc.).
These interferences are not only produced inside your house or office but by all appliances in your building or even outside it and can differ on the time of day or week when the traffic on the electrical network changes.
All these interferences which we call noises can get into your AC power and interfere with your system.
This “dirty” electricity can have a negative effect on the performance of your audio-video system.
TAGA Harmony power noise filter is a great way to limit the negative noises from your electricity and to isolate your system from the contaminated power and has a feature to indicate and reverse the power phase in the output power sockets (selected models).
Built-in DC blocker removes or at least lowers the unwanted DC component of the supply voltage in the selected output power sockets, responsible for noises (buzzing) and higher operating temperature of transformers, which deteriorate the sound quality.
As a result, the connected audio-video devices work more quietly and efficiently as well as the main hum in speakers is significantly being reduced.
Thanks to the PF-DC power filters you will be able to enjoy a better quality of your audio and video equipment.
The contaminated electricity has also a negative impact on the internal circuits and power supplies of your equipment and because the PF-DC filter works as a buffer between the wall socket and your gear it will help to increase the longevity of connected components.
The voltage indicator located on the front panel of the PF-DC filter (selected models) helps to control whether the power voltage in the wall socket is stable.
The removable Schuko-IEC C13 power cable gives an option to upgrade the system with a premium audiophile power cable at any time.
Cleaning
Do not use strong or abrasive cleaners. Use a damp, soft cloth for cleaning.

Hooking Up the Filter

  1. Make sure the filter is turned off (the Power Switch is in the down OFF position and the Power Cable is removed from the wall outlet).

  2. Using power cables (only a power cable for the filter is supplied with this product) connect your audio-video equipment to the Power Sockets.
    Follow the below recommendations:
    FILTERED SOCKETS (these sockets are filtered. Electrical noises are filtered and limited) – connect here your audio-video sources (CD/DVD/BluRay/Media Player, Radio/TV Tuner, Digital-to-Analog Converter, Turntable, Preamplifier, Active Speakers etc.) and video display devices (TV Set, Video Projector etc.).
    DIRECT SOCKETS (these sockets are not filtered) – connect here your amplification audio equipment (Integrated/Power Amplifier, AV/Stereo Receiver, Active Subwoofer and similar).
    If you are experiencing problems with a noisy (buzzing) transformer of your equipment and/or mains hum audible in speakers, we recommend using sockets utilizing DC BLOCKER.
    The recommendations for connecting audio-video equipment to the indicated power sockets may not be the optimal solution for all devices. To determine the power supply option for a given device that will provide the best quality of its operation, we suggest empirical tests by connecting the device to different power sockets: FILTERED, DIRECT and DIRECT (DC BLOCKER).
    Note! Check „Operation” for other useful operating instructions.

  3. Grounding is recommended for this filter. Using a solid, insulated cable (not supplied with this product) connect the Ground Screw with the ground source in a room.

  4. Your filter is ready for operation.

We recommend using Schuko plugs in all power cables.
Total maximum power load (wattage rating): the total maximum power consumption for all connected devices to the filter should not exceed the maximum power load for this filter.
The total maximum power load for this filtrer is given in Kilowatts (kW) or Watts (W) and is printed on the filter.
It is also available in the specifications on www.TagaHarmony.com.

Operation

This unit requires a single-phase 3-conductor electrical outlet.

  1. Make sure that the Polarity Switch is set as 1 (default).
    It determines that the female contacts in the Power Sockets have polarity according to the L and N marking of the Power Sockets.

  2. Plug the Power Cable to the filter and into the electrical outlet.

  3. Turn on the filter (the Power Switch should be in the upper ON position).

  4. Phase LED Indicator – the indicator WILL ILLUMINATE when the phase is INCORRECT.
    If the phase is incorrect then:
    d1 – Remove the Power Cable from the electrical outlet;
    d2 – Set the Polarity Switch to 2;
    d3 – Connect the Power Cable to the electrical outlet;
    d4 – The Phase Indicator should not be illuminated – it means that the phase is correct.
    If your audio-video equipment has the polarity marking (L/N) make sure to connect correctly the equipment power cable plug to the filter according to the polarity markings.
    Never operate this Polarity Switch when the filter is connected to the electrical outlet – this may damage the filter and/or connected devices – this may void your warranty.
    Make sure to disconnect the Power Cable before operating the Polarity Switch!
    Setting the Polarity Switch to 2 will reverse the polarity in the Power Sockets of the filter (L → N and N → L).
    Make sure to consider this when connecting the external equipment.

  5. Turn on your audio-video equipment and enjoy your system.

  6. Reset – the Power Output Sockets will be powered off when the maximum power load is exceeded (check on the rear panel or in specifications). Press the RESET button to restore the power supply.

  7. Voltage indicator – whenever the power filter is turned on and connected to a properly working electrical outlet the voltage indicator will be displaying approximate current voltage in Volts.
    Note! Indications of the voltage indicator are highly approximate and should not be taken into account for the professional assessment of the power line quality.

INCORRECT PHASE
At the date of this instruction manual, there is no unified standard in most European Union countries determining the position of the Live (L) and Neutral (N) wires in an electrical outlet. The term „incorrect phase” is an expression used in this manual only in relation to this device to determine the L and N positions in the output power sockets of the power filter.
POWER CABLES AND PHASE
The Live (L) and Neutral (N) wires in various power cables may be internally connected between the cable plug and the connector in a different way. If the Phase LED Indicator changes its status after the factory-provided Power Cable is swapped for another one, it is not a malfunction but a symptom that the new power cable has a different internal connection as abovementioned. If the Phase LED Indicator will illuminate then perform the steps required when the phase is incorrect and which are described in the point “Phase LED Indicator” in this chapter.

  • When you want to turn off the power filter we recommend turning off your audio-video equipment firstly.
  • This power filter is not an uninterruptible power supply unit (UPS). It will not operate when the input power source fails (no power or too low voltage).
