CONNECTION TO TV DEVICE
HDMI® (recommended)
-
Connect a HDMI® cable from the HDMI OUT (ARC) output on the back of the Sound M to the HDMI IN (ARC) input on your TV.
-
Now select the input [TV] by the Smart-remote using the up or down arrow key „ / “.
Notes:-
A HDMI® connection supports digital audio and video with a single cable. It is the best option to connect your Sound M.
-
If your TV features a HDMI® ARC connector, you can also enjoy the TV
internal audio through your Sound M by using this HDMI® cable. -
This HDMI® connection is required if you intend to connect other video devices to the Sound M inputs to display them on your TV.
-
In this case, activate CEC mode on your TV. CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) is a feature that allows compatible devices to be controlled from a single remote control. For details, refer to the instruction manual of your TV.
-
Optical digital input (alternative)
- Connect the input OPTICAL at the Sound M to the OPTICAL OUT connector of your TV with an optical cable (TOSLINK).
- On the Smart-remote, use the up or down arrow key „ / “ to select the input [CD].
Note:
Make sure you have removed the protective caps from both ends of the optical cable.
CONNECTION TO OTHER DEVICES
HDMI® (recommended)
To connect other digital devices such as a satellite receiver, BluRay-player,
game console etc., it is recommended to connect these devices via one of the 3
HDMI® inputs of the Sound M.

- Now, select the used input [BDP] for HD1, [SAT] for HD2 or [PS] for HD3 with the up or down arrow key „ / “ on the Smart-remote.
Note:
Make sure that you do not connect the other playback devices to the TV, but
directly to the Sound M. This is the only way to ensure that the best possible
multichannel audio format/audio signal is reproduced.
Optical digital input (alternative)
-
Connect the input OPTICAL at the Sound M to the OPTICAL OUT connector of your digital source with an optical cable (TOSLINK)
-
On the Smart-remote use the up or down arrow key „ / “ to select the input [CD].
Notes: -
If the optical digital input is already in use, please use one of the other unused inputs (COAXIAL and/or AUX).
-
Make sure you have removed the protective caps from both ends of the optical cable.

WIRELESS SPEAKER PAIRING
The Sound M offers you the possibility to connect (pair) up to 3 additional Canton Smart speakers wirelessly to an up to 4.1 home theater system.
Attention:
Before pairing Smart speakers to the Sound M, please make sure that the Smart
speaker to be (newly) paired has been disconnected from the power supply for
at least 30 seconds.
Connect (pair) Smart speakers wireless ly:
- Enter the main menu by pressing the „M“ button. Then select the menu item „Wireless Setup“ [WIS] using the up or down arrow key „ / “ and confirm this with the „OK“ button.
- Confirm the (first) menu item „Wireless Pairing“ [WSP] with the „OK“ key.

Note:
In combination with several Canton Smart products (such as the Smart Connect 5.1), the Sound M can also be used as a pure wireless center speaker. In this case, the Sound M is controlled by this Smart product. Please refer to the manual of the relating Smart product for information on the necessary pairing procedure.
ASSIGNING PRESET 1-3
The Sound M is able to assign 3 memory buttons with „presets“. Settings like
volume, selected input and settings in the Speaker Setup [SPS] menu (sound
settings etc.) can be stored.
Practical tip:
We recommend you to store the settings you have made in the loudspeaker menu
during the initial set-up of the Sound M, e.g. regarding loudspeaker levels
and distances, sound settings etc., to one of the 3 preset buttons so that
your settings are not overwritten by the (neutral) factory settings if you
accidentally press one of the preset buttons.
To store resp. recall (sound)settings, please proceed as follows:
- Please apply the desired settings regarding volume, sound, input etc., and press and hold the memory button „1“, „2“ or „3“ until the corresponding number [P1], [P2] or [P3] is shown in the display and no longer flashes.
- To recall the settings from these presets, please press the corresponding button „1“, „2“ or „3“ briefly. The settings are then called up.
Note:
To delete the settings from a preset button, please press and hold the relating button for 10 seconds until the corresponding preset [P1], [P2] or [P3] is shown in the display rapidly flashing.
FIRMWARE UPDATES VIA USB STICK
The Sound M offers you the possibility of updating the firmware via a USB
memory stick. With such an update new functions or adaptations to other
devices can be implemented and/or firmware faults (bugs) can be corrected.
During the update process, the Sound M is not operable!
WARNING:
Do not disconnect the Sound M from the power supply during an update! To
perform a firmware update, please proceed as follows:
- Open the product page of the Sound M at www.canton.de/en and check for the latest firmware available under the section „Downloads“ in the form of a packed ZIP file. The relating manual for this firmware can also be downloaded there.
- Find out the firmware version of your Sound M: To do this, enter the main menu by pressing the menu button „M“. Now, use the „ / “ buttons to select the item „System Info“ [INF] and confirm it with the „OK“ button. Confirm the first menu item „Firmware Info“ [FWI] with „OK“. If the firmware displayed under „MCU“ [MCU] is lower and therefore older than the version available on the Canton homepage, we recommend you to perform the firmware update on your Sound M.
- Open the ZIP file and unpack all files contained into the root directory of an empty FAT32 formatted USB memory stick (with USB-A connector).
- Disconnect your Sound M from the mains for at least 40 seconds, then insert the USB stick with the files into the USB connector on the back of the Sound M and reconnect it to the mains.
- Now, the Sound M executes the update automatically. The update is only completed after the Sound M has returned to standby or its normal operating state and responds to the remote control (after approx. 21/2-3 min.).
- Remove the USB memory stick (only) now.
Attention:
Not every USB stick is accepted by the Sound M and can be used for the
firmware update. Please use another FAT32 formatted USB memory stick with a
small storage capacity (1GB-4GB) if the update does not start automatically
after connecting the Sound M to the mains
