PIXIE is a smart home solution designed for Australian homeowners to experience smart home technology without the expense of legacy home automation solutions. SAL National, a 20-year-old company and Australia’s largest lighting supplier to wholesale trade, owns the PIXIE products range and IP and is responsible for all hardware manufacturing, design, software, and support. Unlike some other brands that ‘stick-a-local-brand-name’ on a foreign product and call it their own, SAL National has 100% ownership of the entire PIXIE product range and software development, which is critical for local, expert support in Australia. PIXIE has been designed for use in Australian homes and wiring practices and is supported by PIXIE Certified Installers and SAL National directly to wholesalers, electricians and end-users. Continued development of the PIXIE smart home solutions continues today with more than 25 products in the range currently, using market feedback and consumer demand to drive new product development specifically for Australian customers and applications.

Simple

Simple does not mean basic or unsophisticated, it means simple to install, simple to set up and simple to change.
PIXIE controls lights – indoor and outdoor, extractor fans, pool pumps, blinds, garage doors, motorized gates and integrates with security systems and other 3rd party systems via low level dry contact I/O interfaces. Installation:

The PIXIE range of products such as smart dimmers, switches, and timers are installed in the wall plates using existing electrical wiring. This saves time for the electrician and allows the homeowners to experience the benefits of a smart home without rewiring their home. Homeowners can start small with a few rooms, and expand their smart home experience throughout their home once comfortable or when they have more budget available, PIXIE is easy to add and expand to meet the homeowner’s needs.

No Hub Needed:

Simple also means that no hub or internet is required for PIXIE to operate and be controlled. There are 2 Apps and a single product range that operates with both Apps. PIXIE hardware uses Bluetooth Mesh technology, creating its own secure network between all installed PIXIE devices in the home. Only homeowners who are authorized to control the home from the App have control and of course, this means neighbors and any unauthorized people cannot control. If you’re in and around your home’s boundaries you will have PIXIE App control of your smart home. Optionally, if homeowners would like to be able to control or monitor their home, whilst away from home and/or they would like to introduce voice control, the introduction of the PIXIE Gateway is a simple plug-and-play way to provide this capability in a few minutes. This PIXIE Gateway is literally a ‘bridge’ between the Bluetooth Mesh in the home and the homeowner’s WiFi network and ultimately the internet. The PIXIE gateway and PIXIE Plus App have no ongoing fees and currently provide voice assistant integration with:

With the gateway installed the system automatically chooses which technology to use – Bluetooth or WiFi – depending on signal strength and location, and this selection occurs seamlessly in the background when homeowners are using their mobile Apps for control. If WiFi fails in the home, or the internet ‘goes down’ then PIXIE simply utilizes the Bluetooth mesh in the home to maintain control and operation.

Wallplates:

Often overlooked is the simplicity of wall plates and the peace of mind and familiarity of having control from wall plates provides homeowners. Having PIXIE Smart dimmers, switches, and timers installed in the wall plate means that homeowners ALWAYS have direct control of the connected load – lights, fans, blinds, etc. – from a wall plate and do not have to depend on mobile app control.

The PIXIE Smart Dimmers control all brands of LED lighting, and traditional or legacy light sources such as tungsten and halogen also.
The PIXIE Smart Switches/Timers control any switched load, either directly or via a contactor for loads that exceed the switch’s load rating.

PIXIE can be fitted into a very wide range of wall plates that are currently available on the Australian marketplace to match the decor and existing electrical accessories used in the home. This flexibility in fitment means PIXIE can be used in just about any home in Australia today and homeowners can achieve the look and feel they like, from the manufacturer they prefer. Using simple schedules outside the home for safety, security and convenience operate entry, pathway, and landscape lighting overnight automatically as a simple example. Schedules inside the home can automatically control table and wall lamps from the PIXIE smart GPO’s or Smart plugs, creating the perfect mood, night after night without any overhead lighting.

Scenes and Moods

The PIXIE technology provides the ability to create groups and scenes, and then to recall these from a single press of a button on the wall, a voice command, or via the mobile App to transform the home’s mood instantly. Homeowners experience the comfort of entering their home and with a single voice command “Hey SIRI, ILLUMINATE!” – having a pathway lit to their kitchen through their hallway for safe entry, alarm disabling and the welcoming comfort of home. This same effect could be produced from a single button press on a wall switch mounted at the front door. On the way out the door, double pressing the same switch performs a different function, this time an ALL OFF command, ensuring that all lights are off, blinds are closed and the outdoor security lighting is on. Every PIXIE device has the ability to be a part of groups and scenes to deliver this smart home experience.

Integration to/from other Devices

PIXIE has the ability to be integrated into other systems and devices in the home and from other systems too. This integration capability extends the smarthome sphere beyond just light extract/exhaust fans and blinds.

Start Small and Grow

Due to the simple installation method, a PIXIE smarthome can be started with a single dimmer in the lounge room for example.
This provides full dimming control of the lights from the wall plate, dimming from the PIXIE App via Bluetooth and automated scheduling as desired.
When the time comes to expand the system, adding more smart dimmers, switches, timers and LED strips for example, is as simple as having them installed by a qualified electrician, adding them to the App and creating your scenes and schedules.
