TDMA Transponder for Commercial Vehicles
Instruction Manual
The TDMA V6 transponder mounts in truck interiors on the windshield. LEDs on the side of the transponder provide transaction feedback. Mount the transponder with the LEDs visible to the driver.
Requirements
-
The TDMA V6 transponder cannot be used on trucks that are equipped with metallic sun visors as these visors block the RF signal to and from the transponder. If the vehicle is equipped with metallic sun visors, use an externally mounted transponder.
-
For reliable operation of the transponder, the vehicle should not be equipped with more than one transponder of a similar design
while passing through a toll facility. Other transponders present in or on the vehicle must be switched off or enclosed in an RF shield. -
The mounting location must provide direct line-of-sight communication between the transponder and the toll facility overhead antenna.
-
Apply Dual Lock™ fasteners in accordance with 3M™ document 700709-4029-4.
-
The transponder must not be obscured by a windshield wiper when the windshield wiper is in its parked position (turned off).
Transponder Mounting Instructions
For split windshields with a central dividing post:
-
Identify the preferred mounting location 1” from the bottom of the windshield and 2” to the left of the central dividing post. If the windshield wiper obscures the transponder, raise the mounting location to a maximum of 3” from the bottom of the windshield.
-
If the windshield wiper continues to obscure the transponder after raising it a maximum of 3” from the bottom of the windshield, identify a mounting location 2” to the right of the central dividing post and 1“ from the bottom of the windshield. If the windshield wiper obscures the transponder, raise the mounting location to a maximum of 3” from the bottom of the windshield.
-
Clean the mounting location in accordance with 3M document 70-0709-4029-4.
-
Remove the protective backing from the two Dual Lock fasteners and press the transponder onto the mounting location, ensuring the status LEDs on the left side of the transponder are facing the driver. Maintain the pressure for approximately 15 seconds to ensure a good bond.
-
Remove the transponder by lifting any corner with sufficient force to separate the Dual Lock strips. Do not reuse the Dual Lock strips after removing them from the windshield. Obtain new strips as required.
For windshields without a central dividing post:
-
Identify the mounting location 1” from the bottom of the windshield and in the center of the windshield as measured from the right and left sides of the windshield.
If the windshield wiper obscures the TDMA V6 transponder, raise the mounting location to a maximum of 3” from the bottom of the windshield and/or move the transponder a maximum of 2” to the left or right of the center of the windshield.
-
Clean the mounting location in accordance with 3M document 70-0709-4029-4.
-
Remove the protective backing from the two Dual Lock fasteners and press the transponder onto the mounting location, ensuring the status LEDs on the left side of the transponder are facing the driver. Maintain the pressure for approximately 15 seconds to ensure a good bond.
-
Remove the transponder by lifting any corner with sufficient force to separate the Dual Lock strips. Do not reuse the Dual Lock strips after removing them from the windshield. Obtain new strips as required.
