CONTRAINDICATIONS AND SPECIFICS OF USE
Contraindications
This type of device is unique with the IPL technology used. It allows to bring
the high professional effectiveness to the comfort of your home. However, this
technology has some limitations and specifics of use – it is not intended for
all groups of persons and it cannot be used under certain circumstances or in
case of certain diseases.
VERY IMPORTANT
Any failure to follow the instructions and recommendations given here may
result in skin damage, aggravation of possible current problems, or occurring
of adverse side effects, such as burns, blisters, discolorations or
scarification of the skin. If you have any doubts concerning the use of the
device in your individual case consult your dermatologist or general
practitioner first! Further, in case of your long-term (in certain cases also
short-term) use of certain medication (or hormonal contraception), ask if they
may not influence the sensitivity of your skin to light and heat and thus
negatively influence the skin reaction to IPL treatment!
The device must not be used by:
-
Children and elder persons;
-
Persons with local or systemic inflammatory disease;
-
Persons with implanted medical devices and systems (such as pacemaker, skin ports etc.).
-
Persons with precancerous lesions or several atypical moles on the area to be treated with the device.
-
Persons with skin diseases (e.g. skin cancer, psoriasis, vitiligo), with medical history
of skin cancer or any other focal lesions of cancer localised on the areas of intended use of the device or the persons currently being treated with chemotherapy or radiotherapy. -
Persons with photosensitive skin or taking photosensitizing medication;
-
Persons with any chronic disease, heart disease, thyroid gland disease, further the persons with the diseases such as lupus erythematosus, diabetes, epilepsy or retina disease or receiving an immunosuppressive therapy.
-
Pregnant or breastfeeding women or women attempting to conceive or during menstruation. The device has not been tested for this group of persons.
Further, do not use the device in following cases:
- If the skin on the area to be treated has been treated with peeling, sunburned, cut, has open wounds, eczemas, lesions, haematomas, burns, inflammation of hair follicles, abrasions or is currently being treated with injections or if you have had a surgery or facial rejuvenation surgery in given area (such as Botox, facial filler, thread lifts etc.).
- If you have varicose veins, dilated veins or a history of any other vascular disorder on the area to be treated.
- If you have a history of collagen disorder, including a history of keloid scar formation or a history of poor wound healing, or you have skin implants.
- If you have any bleeding disorder; also, if you use anticoagulation medications.
- Over or near silicone implants or piercings.
- Immediately after cosmetic treatment (e.g. after AHA, botulotoxin treatment etc.).
- If you visit tanning centre.
- In moles (neither near them nor over them!), freckles, darker pigmented areas, scars or other skin irregularities.
- If you have warts, freckles, tattoos or permanent make-up on the area to be treated
- If you have used long-lasting deodorant on the area to be epilated.
- If your skin tone is very dark (see part “Skin type „below). The dark skin absorbs more light energy, which may result in unpleasant or painful sensation and undesired effects (e.g. burning, blisters formation, discoloration or scarification) and damage to skin.
- If your skin is very sensitive.
- If you suffer from solar urticaria (allergy to sun).
- Before or shortly after IPL application, do not use any cosmetic products (e.g. products with pigments, perfumes, alcohol, AHA alpha hydroxy acids, BHA beta acid, azelaic acid, etc.).
- In any other case which would be considered by your doctor as risky for the use of this device.
The above-mentioned lists are not complete and do not include all possible cases and complications, that may exclude the use of IPL technology. In case of any doubts you should contact your dermatologist or general practitioner. Further, special attention should be paid to the issue of tanning. Do not use the device on recently tanned or artificially tanned skin! All types of tanning (natural, as well as artificial one, including the use of self- tanners) may reduce the safety of IPL treatment, as the skin becomes very sensitive. Do not use also if you are planning to travel soon e.g. to the sea and to get exposed to the sunlight. It applies also vice versa – after IPL treatment, do not expose your unprotected skin to any tanning or sunlight for at least 2-3 weeks. Regarding the above-mentioned, it is not recommended to use the device in summer months (or in days with increased sunlight, regardless the season of the year), when people are generally very often exposed to the sunlight. Also be cautious if you have had chemical hair removal, skin bleaching, or vitamin A cosmetic products in the last 30 days.
Skin type
IPL technology has its advantages and limitations. One of the main factors,
determining the resulting effect and the safety of use of the IPL device, is
the skin tone and the colour of hair. To put it simply, the best results are
achieved by persons with light skin and dark hair. The darker the hair, the
more energy from the flashes is absorbed, making the epilation more effective.
However, the darker skin tone is less desirable from the point of view of the
safety in case of skin discoloration. Therefore, the device is not intended
for use by the persons with very dark skin tone, as there is a risk of skin
injury (e.g. burning). If your skin tone is very dark, do not use the device.
If you have a darker skin tone (and before using the device for the first
time) always start the epilation at the lowest intensity. Only after you make
sure that given setting does not cause any complications, you can increase the
light intensity setting, if needed.
Please also note that IPL device is not effective in persons with light blond, white, red or grey hair, since due to the low level of dark pigment in this case, the effectiveness of the epilation may be very low.
The above-displayed table shows the manner of use of the device and recommended setting for given skin/hair type. To put it simply, the darker skin you have, the lower light intensity should be set. If your skin type is approximately 6 or darker, do not use the device. Also do not use the device in case you do not have standard skin pigmentation (e.g. vitiligo or albinism). Determine your skin tone according to the reference zone (skin area), which has not been exposed to the sunlight – ideally the area hidden under bikini or underarms. The colour tones including the table are illustrative only and serve only for better understanding of the device operation in relation to various skin and hair colour tones. Always respect the warnings in the instructions, including the skin sensitivity test.
Never use the device on following body or facial areas:
- Around the eyes and near the eyebrows (including temporal bone) – otherwise the sight may be permanently damaged!
- On the neck; the forehead up to the skulls and on the hairy head skin,
- On the nipples and areolas,
- On the genitals and their near surrounding areas,
- On the anus and its surrounding areas,
- Inside of the nostrils and ears,
- On particularly sensitive areas (such as ankles, bony areas etc.)
- On the areas you wish to have hair on in the future.
Moreover, men must not use the device on the face, neck and on beard (as a variation of shaving machine or beard trimmer). In such case (the beard or facial hair) the epilation may result in lasting effects – uneven results, which may cause undesirable changes in characteristic facial features. Hair removal using IPL technology may cause increased hair growth in some individuals. Based on the data available, the highest risk areas are the facial and neck ones, and it concerns rather women of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and South Asian types. Dear customers, please also note that regarding the specific principle of IPL technology operation and the individual character of human organism response, the seller cannot guarantee the full extent of the effects of the device. There may be a group of individuals, in which IPL treatment is less effective than in other. The period, within which the primary effect can be seen, may also be very individual – from approx. 4 weeks up to need to repeat the treatment in approx. 12-18 months.
Areas suitable for treatment
FUNCTIONS OF DEVICE
How does the IPL epilation work?
If used properly, the IPL technology (intensive pulses of light) epilation
allows to achieve long-lasting effect and to prevent the regrowth of the hair.
It is achieved by heating the hair and its root under the surface of the skin
– the emitted light is absorbed, leading to destruction of their cells without
damaging surrounding tissues. Consequently, the hair sheds within 1-2 weeks
(Note: there may an impression of hairs continuing to grow, but they are only
pushed out and then they fall out naturally) and its further regrowth on given
area is prevented. If any new hairs occur (e.g. due to age or hormonal
changes), they are fine and soft, and their density is reduced. The major role
plays the dark pigment (melanin), which can absorb the flashes of the light.
The darker the hair is, the more amount of light it can absorb. That is why
its use is not effective in light hair – as light hair absorbs only a minimum
of light; majority of hair remains undamaged.
However, IPL epilation is only effective when the hairs are in their growing phase! There are approximately 10-30 % of them at the time of the session (this is very variable, and it depends on the individual, as well as the part of the body). Therefore, an effective hair removal requires some patience and repeating the epilation in regular cycles within a prolonged period (see below).

INSTRUCTION FOR USE
PREPARING FOR USE
To achieve optimal results, it is advisable to pre-treat the areas you wish to
use the device on.
Pre-treatment of the skin on the area to be treated
- Remove hair on the surface of the area in usual way (e.g. by shaving); if you have been recently epilated by a method including root removal, before using IPL, wait until the hair regrows. Using IPL technology on the areas, which are not hair-free, may result in undesired effects. e.g. burning of hair accompanied by smell, or contamination or damage to the application window.
- Wash the skin, make sure it is free from any cosmetic products, perfumes etc. and let it dry.
- Check, and, if needed, clean the application window with protection filter C2.
It must not be contaminated with caught hairs, dust or any other impurities.
Setting the light intensity
The device provides 5 different pulsed light intensities. The IPL method is
more effective in higher intensity settings. However, the individual specifics
of each person need to be considered in accordance with the rules/warnings
given in the instructions. If you have darker skin tone, use lower intensity
setting (see part “Skin type” above). As well, if you experience any
discomfort or pain in any part of your body, reduce the intensity.
After switching on the device, you can change the pulsed light intensity by
pressing A1 button. The degree set is displayed by a respective number of
lines B2 on the display B.
NOTE
The light impulse may cause a sensation of warmth or heat. In some cases, your
skin may also slightly tingle. However, it should never be painful.
Setting
Based on the warnings in these instructions, evaluate, if your current health
and skin condition allow the use of this device.
HOW TO USE
Skin tolerance test
Before using the device for the first time (regardless the intensity degree)
it is necessary to perform the tolerance test on a small skin area. It will
help you to verify, if this type of technology is well tolerated by you and to
discover any possible unwanted reaction of your skin. The test should be
performed at least 24 before complete treatment. The tested area should be
hair-free, clean and free from any cosmetic products.
Then release 2-3 flashes close to each other at a low intensity of 1-2. Wait
24 hours and check your skin for any unwanted reactions (erythema, the skin
must not be sensitive or swollen, nor you should experience any discomfort).
If any complications occur, do not use the device and for further actions
consult your physician/dermatologist. After having performed the skin test, do
not perform any treatment on the tested area for at least one week.
Modes of use
basic modes of the use of the device are available.
- manual – it is a default mode, which can be simply described as a mode when each flash of light must be induced by pressing activaton button A2. Use for more precise treatment of your face or other, rather small, parts of your body. Proper contact with your skin and the possibility to release a flash is signalled by flashing A6 signal lamp. If the application window is not in proper contact with your skin, the A6 signal lamp is lit.
- utomatic – in this mode you can just press the application window C2 onto your skin with no need to press the activation A2 button. Then the flash releases in certain intervals will be activated automatically. It is suitable for treatment of larger areas.
The active mode is indicated by the display of the B1 icon. Once the application window gets close to the skin, the flashes start to be released automatically.
After switching on the device, the automatic mode is activated by pressing and holding the A2 button for 2 seconds. Press the A2 button to switch the appliance back to manual mode.
WARNING
At lower levels of setting, the intervals between the flashes (or heating the lamp) are very short. If you operate in the automatic mode, you must continuously slide the light exit window, to prevent multiple flashes on the same area.
Using the device
- Put the connector of the adapter to the device socket A5. Then put the adapter in the wall socket. The sign “OFF” will be lit on the display. Now the device is in a standby mode.
- To switch on the device, press and long hold the button A1. The integrated vent will be activated, and the display will be lit, indicating the marking of the attachment placed, the flash intensity set and numeric indication of the amount of remaining flashes.
- If needed, change the flash intensity setting and the mode of use.
- Put on the safety eyewear D.
- Press the device onto the skin area to be treated. In automatic mode, the flashes will be released immediately. Thus, it is necessary to continuously slide the application window to the next area, so there is only a partial overlap and always move to the new area of the skin. In manual mode, press and release the application button A2 to release a flash.
- When you have finished the treatment, press and long hold the button A1 to switch off the device and unplug the adapter from the wall socket. In case of inactivity lasting for more than 15 minutes, the device will be switched off automatically. Then let the device and the attachment cool down. Then perform routine maintenance and store the device in well-ventilated place out of reach of children and persons with reduced mental capabilities.
Skin care after use
Approximately 20 minutes after the treatment, you can apply moisturizers or
regenerative lotions to the treated area. If you experience discomfort or skin
irritation, you can calm the area by applying a cooling cloth (for 30-60
minutes). Do not use irritating cosmetic products! Do not moist the treated
area with water for approximately 2 hours after the treatment.
Tips and advice on use
- Do not miss a place – release the flashes close to each other.
- When treating the face (women only!), more attanetion should be paid, as the skin in this area is very sensitive. Before application, close your eyes or look away (even with safety eyewear) and avoid releasing double flash on the same area. When treating the area over the upper lip, avoid the contact with lips and nostrils, which may be particularly sensitive.
- It is not recommended to use the device in a dark room. At a reduced light levels the flashes are more distinctive and may be exhausting to your eyes.
- During the treatment (but not during the session!) and for at least two weeks after the last treatment, protect your skin against sunlight using sunblocks SPF 30 and higher.
- Do not bath in disinfected pools etc. for at least 2 days.
- If a stronger skin reaction than a slight redness occurrs, interrupt the use of the device and read “POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS”.
TREATMENT SCHEDULE
Since the resulting effectiveness of the IPL epilator may vary between different individuals, please note that the length of successful treatment period may also differ. One will need only few treatments (lasting e.g. for 2 months), another will need a year or more. During the use, follow the treatment frequency as per following rules:
- 1st and 2nd month – use once a week.
- 3rd month – use 2 times a month (approx. after 15 days)
- 4th month – 1 year – use once a month
- After 1 year – 1-2 times a year, if needed
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
In principle, all methods of epilation and cosmetic interventions to a
human body may cause some adverse effects. IPL technology is not an exclusion.
These are mostly common reactions, which disappear within few hours/days. In
case of more severe reactions (e.g. excessive redness or more intensive pain
as a result of not following the rules in these instructions (mainly as a
result of setting a high intensity, repeated application on the same area or
application on a skin which is not hair-free) it is necessary to interrupt the
treatment, evaluate the correctness of the procedure in accordance with the
rules in the instructions and in case of any doubts or unusual skin reaction
consult the further use of the device with your dermatologist or physician.
Common and harmless side effects:
-
Mild pain – pain is perceived differently by different people. Under normal circumstances, the treatment with IPL device should not be painful. However, regarding different pain thresholds, it is possible that some people may experience certain discomfort (e.g. burning, prickle, tingling). But the pain should not be intensive and should disappear quickly. If you experience an excessive discomfort or pain at lower settings, do not use the device and consult your physician/dermatologist.
-
Slight redness – this reaction is relatively common and in most cases it disappears quickly. It may occur immediately or within 24 hours after the treatment. The skin may show similar reaction as after sunburn. It is recommended to perform the treatment before sleep, so the possible redness does not interfere with your daily routine. However, if the problems persist for more than approx. 3 days, consult the further use of the device with your physician/dermatologist.
-
– Smell of burnt hairs – it usually occurs if you have not removed your hair before use and the flash burned the upper part of hairs above the skin surface. In such case stop using the device and remove hair from the treated areas.
-
Sensation of dryness and itching – especially in combination with mechanical hair removal. It is common and it will disappear within few days. You can ease the symptom (but not immediately after use!) using a non-scented moisturizer.
Rare side effects: -
burns, excessive redness or swelling – often as a result of using a light intensity that
too high for your skin tone. -
discoloration – it may manifest itself as either a darker patch or a lighter patch than the surrounding area. This also often occurs as a result of using the intensity that is too high for your skin tone.
-
Skin inflammation – various infections and inflammations, that may occur after using the device on wounded areas (e.g. by shaving) or on ingrown hairs.
If the above-mentioned problems (excessive redness, discoloration, inflammation around hair follicle) do not disappear within 3 days, consult your doctor – some problems may be induced by other causes constituting a separate health problem. Do not use the device until your skin regenerates or restores its original colour.
MAINTENANCE
To ensure an optimal condition of the device, clean it regularly after each session (or during the treatment, if needed). Neglecting the maintenance may lead to reduced effectiveness of the device. Before performing maintenance, let the device and the attachment used cool down. Do not use abrasive, aggressive or flammable cleaning products! Wipe the surface of the device with a soft moist cloth. Check the vent slots and, if needed, remove e.g. caught hairs or other impurities. After each use, check the attachment and its application window for any impurities caught on it. To clean the attachment and the application window, use only a dry soft cloth, not shedding fibre. The device itself and its attachments must not be washed or immersed in water or other liquids!
Storage
Put the appliance with the accessories back to the original package at a dry and dust free place, out of reach of children and incapacitated people. Ensure the protection of the application window with glass filter against damage. More extensive maintenance or maintenance requiring intervention in the inner parts of the appliance must be carried out by professional service! Failure to comply with the instructions of the manufacturer will lead to the expiration of the right to guarantee repair!
