Browning Treatment/Coffee Stain Remover
Reducing agent for stain removal
FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY
Effective stain removal · Solvent Free · Efficient Rinsing
BACKGROUND
Browning Treatment/Coffee Stain Remover is useful for removing cellulosic
browning as well as soils from beverages such as coffee and tea. Browning
Treatment/Coffee Stain Remover contains a reducing agent. Textile dyes can be
affected by any bleaching agent so pretesting is particularly important when
using this product.
Cellulosic browning often results from improper treatment of cellulose-based
fibers such as cotton with an alkaline substance. Browning Treatment/Coffee
Stain Remover can often remove this staining. The product is also effective,
as the name implies, for removing tannin-type stains that result from beverage
spills such as coffee and tea.
Browning Treatment/Coffee Stain Remover is VOC compliant in all areas of the
country. It is a one-part, ready-to-use stain remover. Do not dilute before
use and do not mix with any other cleaning products or stain removers. The
product is slightly acidic such that is suitable for use on stain resist
carpeting. Because it is acidic, however, avoid contact with acid-sensitive
surfaces such as polished marble.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

PRETESTING: Check the compatibility of the product prior to use. Check for evidence of factors such as dye bleeding, change in appearance, and physical damage to the surface.
INSPECTION
Inspect the customer’s carpet, rug, or upholstery before doing any work. Note any of the following on your inspection report and discuss with the customer:
- Airflow and drying problems within the building
- Objects that might be damaged if in contact with wet floorings such as floor-length window treatments, furniture legs, or skirts. Be sure to protect these items.
- Access to the work area: be sure you have room to move equipment in and out without causing damage to walls and objects in the room.
- Check the area for fragile objects. Be sure these items are removed to a safe location per customer instructions.
- Inspect and make a note of carpet, rug, or upholstery for any tears, bunching, burns or other damage, excessive wear, heavy staining, or unusual odors. Review any issues with the customer before proceeding.
Tech tips:
- Be sure to replace the cover or cap on the container after dispensing the product. This protects the product from contamination.
- Wear suitable gloves and eye protection.
- Because the product is sold in a one-gallon container, it is convenient to dispense into a smaller applicator bottle. Quart and 22-ounce spray bottles are popular. Select a container that is opaque so that the product will be protected from room light. Also, be sure to select a sprayer that can spray in coarse mode and is resistant to reducing agents. Be careful to avoid spills when transferring the product to the sprayer bottle.
- Wicking can often look like cellulosic browning. Check the fiber tips; determine whether the discoloration is just on those tips. If that is the case, a gentle buffing with a white towel or bonnet moistened with All Fiber Textile Rinse will often correct the problem.
PRODUCT APPLICATION.
Browning Treatment/Coffee Stain Remover can be used in several processes: removal of browning on the carpet, removal of browning on upholstery, removal of small beverage spills, and removal of large beverage spills.
For use on carpets if browning has already occurred:
- Do not dilute. Use the product as it comes from the container.
- Pre-test carpet for colorfastness in an inconspicuous area.
- Apply product using a chemical-resistant sprayer (coarse spray nozzle). DO NOT MISS IT. Apply product uniformly to the affected area.
- Brush in with a pile or tamping brush.
- Allow to work until browning is removed or intensity is reduced. Blot (Do Not Rub) with a clean, dry white cloth to remove excess moisture.
- Extract with portable or truck mount using Optimal Rinse.
For use on upholstery if browning has already occurred:
- Do not dilute. Use the product as it comes from the container.
- Pre-test upholstery for colorfastness in an inconspicuous area.
- Apply product using a chemical-resistant sprayer (coarse spray nozzle). DO NOT MISS IT. Apply product uniformly to the affected area. Do not over-wet.
- Allow to work until browning is removed or intensity is reduced.
- Extract with portable or truck mount using Optimal Rinse.
Coffee Stain Removal
- Clean the spot with a neutral detergent. (For large spills i.e. whole cup or coffee pot: Blot or extract excess liquid then extract excess liquid with a neutral detergent.)
- Apply product.
- Allow to dry completely; then vacuum thoroughly.
- Make a second application of Browning Treatment and Coffee Stain Remover if necessary.
- If treating wool or dyed carpet fibers, rinse thoroughly with cold water once the stain has been removed. Blot excess moisture with a white spotting towel or extract depending on which is convenient.
CLEANUP
- Check for any spills or overspray; remove promptly.
- Dispose of wastewater properly. Do not dispose anywhere but in a sanitary water treatment system.
- Rinse equipment to remove product residues; these residues can interfere with valves or spray jets.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
- Avoid inhaling mist from the product when handling or preparing the ready-to-use solution. If necessary, wear respiratory protection.
- Keep children and pets away from your work area, cleaning products, and from your equipment.
- If using a truck mount style extractor, remember that water supply lines and fittings will get very hot. This heat can damage lawns and some types of carpeting. The heat can also burn the skin.
- Read the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for all products before using them. You can obtain the SDSs from your distributor or from http://www.legendbrandscleaning.com
- Use the personal protective equipment specified in the SDS.
