CHEMSPEC B07WZVLCBL Crystal Defoamer Professional Strength Antifoaming
for Carpet Cleaning Systems
FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY
Prevents foaming from detergent residues • Easy to use • Economical
BACKGROUND
Foam generation that occurs during extraction is a significant and often
expensive nuisance. Foam can sometimes damage equipment but always reduces
extraction efficiency. Various methods are used to reduce or eliminate
foaming. Unfortunately foaming is a frequent problem when floors have not
received proper maintenance. Detergents that are high foaming or poor
extraction procedures leave floors prone to foaming. Many foam suppressant
products are liquids designed to be added directly to the vacuum line of the
extractor; these products work very well and are preferred in many
circumstances. There are some drawbacks to this approach, however. Liquid
defoamers, if spilled, are extremely difficult to clean and will leave hard
surface floors very slippery. It is often necessary to add the defoamer to the
vacuum system many times because it keeps getting flushed through the system.
Finally, liquid defoamers contain significant water content so the per use
cost is usually higher than that of Crystal Defoamer. Crystal Defoamer uses a
different strategy: it is a crystal that is applied directly to the floor
prior to extraction. As a result it destroys foam at the very point where it
is generated: on the floor area where the extraction wand makes contact.
Crystal Defoamer is very water soluble so it is easily removed during the
extraction process. The product has extremely low odor.
Crystal Defoamer is typically applied by broadcast spreading over the floor
prior to extraction.
Note: that Crystal Defoamer is intended for use only in extraction
processes.
ITEMS NEEDED
Note: be sure all equipment operates properly before arriving at the customer’s location
- Cleaning products: preconditioning and extraction products of choice; Crystal Defoamer
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as specified in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- Supplies: booties, carpet groomer, adequate supply of clean cloths and a plastic bag for the storage of soiled cloths, measuring cup, wet floor signs, corner guards, traffic lane protectors and furniture leg protectors as needed, empty 5 gallon pail to prepare stock solution.
- Equipment: air movers (the Dri-Eaz Studebaker AirPath is particularly useful in this application), vacuum cleaner (preferably a two motor upright), electric or pressure or pump up dispensers as desired for the job, either truck mount or portable extraction equipment as desired for the job.
PRETESTING: Check compatibility of product prior to use. Check for evidence of factors such as dye bleeding, change in appearance, physical damage to the surface.
INSPECTION
Inspect the customer’s floor before doing any work. Note any of the following on your inspection report and discuss with the customer:
- Look for evidence that the floor in question is likely to foam. Telltale indicators are stiffness or stickiness, excessive resoiling and high pH. It is sometimes useful to perform a simple test of adding a small amount of water to the floor and rubbing the wet area with your thumb. If this agitation produces significant foam, the floor is a good candidate for Crystal Defoamer.
- Air flow and drying problems within the building
- Objects that might be damaged if in contact with wet flooring such as floor length window treatments, furniture legs or skirts. Be sure to protect these items.
- Access to the work area: be sure you have room to move equipment in and out without causing damage to walls and objects in the room.
- Check the area for fragile objects. Be sure these items are removed to a safe location per customer instructions.
- Inspect and make a note of damage, excessive wear, heavy staining or unusual odors. Review any issues with the customer before proceeding.
Tech tips:
- Be sure to replace the cover or cap on the container after dispensing the product.
- Wear suitable gloves and eye protection.
- Avoid breathing any dust generated during application.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
-
Before extraction cleaning, lightly and evening apply Crystal Defoamer directly to the floor. Typically, 1/2 cup (113 mL) per 100 square feet (9.3 square meters) of areas to be cleaned. If the areas being cleaned contain higher detergency, increase to 1 cup (226 mL) per 100 square feet (9.3 square meters).
Caution: avoid sprinkling the product onto any hard surface floor. In the event of a spill, vacuum the crystals at once. -
Clean the floor using industry accepted cleaning procedures
CLEANUP
- Check for any spills or overspray; remove promptly.
- Dispose of waste water properly. Do not dispose anywhere but to a sanitary water treatment system.
- Rinse equipment to remove product residues; these residues can interfere with valves or spray jets.
SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
- Avoid inhaling mist from the product when handling or preparing ready to use solution. If necessary, wear respiratory protection.
- Keep children and pets away from your work area, from cleaning products and from your equipment.
- If using a truck mount style extractor, remember that water supply lines and fittings will get very hot. This heat can damage lawns and some types of carpeting. The heat can also burn the skin.
- Read the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for all products before using them. You can obtain the SDSs from your distributor or from http://www.legendbrandscleaning.com/
- Use the personal protective equipment specified in the SDS.
