FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
ASSEMBLY
Attaching New Fish Tape Tip Keep 4 mm Hex key and thread former for future use with Polyester Fish Tape Plastic Tips (Cat. No. 48-22-4161) or Polyester Fish Tape Flexible Leaders (Cat. No. 48-22-4191).
-
Using cutting pliers, make a cut for a fresh edge on PET tape (Fig. 1).
-
Loosen the screws using the 4 mm Hex key to open the thread former just enough for the PET tape to fit (Fig. 2).
-
Insert the PET tape end into the thread former hole on the side that is molded “insert tape” (Fig. 2).
NOTE : Make sure the PET tape is flush with the cutting edge of the thread former. -
Ensure the PET tape stays in the hole while tightening screws with the 4 mm Hex key until thread former halves touch (Fig. 3). Do not overtighten.
-
Use nonmarring tool or protect the tape, if desired.Hold the PET tape with pliers 2″ from the end of the thread former and push the thread former towards the PET tape in to the thread former hole while rotating the thread former counterclockwise, as indicated on the thread former (Fig. 4). Make sure the PET tape is secure in the thread former. If overtightened, the results may be poor.
-
Continue threading until 1/2″ of tape sticks out of the back of the thread former (Fig. 5).
-
To remove the PET tape, loosen screws on the thread former and lift the PET tape (Fig. 5). Make sure not to twist the PET tape when removing.
-
Check to make sure the threaded PET tape can screw into the fish tape tip/leader. If the PET tape does not fit, cut the burrs off at an angle or sand down the rough edges.
-
Insert the adhesive into the fish tape tip/leader and squeeze 1/4″ of adhesive (Fig. 6 / Fig. 7). Apply adhesive on PET tape covering the entire area of threads to be covered by fish tape tip/leader (Fig. 8).
-
Screw on the fish tape tip/leader counterclockwise on the PET tape using pliers, if needed (Fig. 9 / Fig. 10). Wipe away excess adhesive. Let the adhesive cure at least 24 hours prior to heavy pulls. For lighter pulls, the PET tape can be used immediately. NOTE: Excess adhesive will squeeze out of the bottom of the fish tape tip.
