MUDBUSTERS 1049 CAN-AM Commander
Thank you for purchasing MudBuster’s fender flares for the Can-Am Commander!
We manufacture the best-selling fender flare kits for UTVs and side by side!
All MudBusters products are made in the USA, and these fender flares are
manufactured from high-quality American-made material. Your new extended
fenders are designed to deflect debris and reduce the amount of mud that
typically gets thrown from the tires into unwanted areas. They can withstand a
lot of abuse, but they are not designed for crash protection, absorbing
impacts, rollovers, or uprooting trees. If you have an accident or if you
happen to damage your fenders, order discounted replacement fenders by phone
(for existing customers only). Unlike other manufacturers, you do not have to
buy a complete set if you damage just one fender.
IMPORTANT:
Some of the images in the instructions below may differ from the actual
product. In our continual effort to increase customer satisfaction, we may
change the style, material, and/or hardware to serve you better. If your
fenders get slightly distorted while in transit, apply pressure to the
distorted areas to straighten them out before installation.
Use caution when drilling into the factory panels of your vehicle. Make sure
that you do not penetrate the surrounding parts or the chassis (unless
instructed). Self-tapping screws and push rivets are included as an effective
and easy way to fasten the fender flares to your machine. However, you can use
other methods of securing our extended fenders to your vehicle as well (i.e.,
rivets, misc. hardware, etc.). Remember, it may be helpful to have a friend
assist you with the installation.
Unboxing:
Carefully open your package from the box’s top (or bottom) by removing the
staples with a flat-head screwdriver or plyers. Slide the fenders out of the
box and make sure that any staples do not scratch your fenders. MythBusters is
formed to fit your machine but shipped in a narrow box. You may find it
necessary to apply pressure and re-bend some of your fenders for a better fit.
Don’t worry, they’re very durable and will not break from re-shaping them!
Note: Using a larger drill bit may allow the fender to come off when
riding! The rivets need to be a tight fit to secure the fender flare to the
fender. We recommend a 21/64” drill bit.
Note: Max coverage set shown. Smaller sets (Mud-Lite, or Race-Lite) may
have less hardware in the front of the front fender or the lower front of the
rear fender than pictured. In these cases, it may be helpful to use the rear
mounting locations first for installation ease.
Can-Am Commander
Front Fender Installation
- Verify that your vehicle does NOT have factory fenders. If your vehicle does have factory fenders, this kit will not fit.
- Mount the front fender bracket on the inside of the factory M6 bolt as shown in Figure 1. Install an M6 lock nut onto the back of the bolt to secure the bracket. Note: It may be necessary to bend the bracket before proceeding to Step 3.
- Insert the nose of the front fender into the front fascia as shown in Figure 2. The notch in the front fender will help you align the fender into the correct position.
- Insert (1) 1×1/4” bolt with a large washer through the hole and into the u-nut on the bracket.
- Remove the hardware located on the inner wheel well (The factory Torx bolts are secured with a 10mm lock nut on the inside of the cab).
- Place the fender flare up against the body as shown in Figure 3, add a washer to each bolt, and finger-tighten them allowing for adjustment.
- Apply upward pressure to the bottom of the fender to reduce any possible gaps and then tighten the hardware down. It may help to have a friend assist you with this step.
Note: It can be helpful to remove the bolt from Figure 2 if you’re having difficulty adjusting the fender. The front of the fender flare can be bent upward and inserted behind the front fascia after the fender has been adjusted.
Upper Rear Fender Installation
- hock the front tires and jack up the rear end of your vehicle (be sure to use jack stands to securely support the vehicle while you work).
- Remove the rear wheels.
- Place the rear fender up against the lip located in the inner fender well. Use spring clamps the hold the fender into position. See (Figure 5).
- Before proceeding to step 5, Look for any large gaps on the outside of the fender (Figure 6).
- You may need to remove the fender and re-shape it to match the angles of the body. It may also help to use additional spring clamps to close any remaining gaps.
- Using a 1/4″ drill bit and a cordless drill, carefully drill the first hole (as shown in Figure 7). Insert (1) 3/4″ bolt with a washer and a lock-nut on the back side.
- Tighten the hardware in the sequence shown in Figure 7. The rest of the hardware can be installed at your discretion.
Note: After the hardware is placed through the holes, it may be necessary to move the spring clamps to any area where you may have a gap. Tighten the hardware when you have achieved the best possible fitment. It may also be necessary to adjust the fender while tightening the hardware.
Lower Rear Fender Installation
- Place the dump bed in the closed position.
- Place the lower rear fender up against the lip located in the inner fender well. The top of the lower rear fender should meet the upper rear fender. (Re-shape the bend if necessary). See Figure 8.
- Once the upper and lower fenders are lined up, use a scribe or a marker to mark the holes that need to be drilled.
- Drill the first 1/4″ hole at the bottom of the fender, and insert (1) 3/4″ bolt with a washer on both sides, and a lock-nut on the back side. Finger-tighten the hardware to allow for adjustment.
- Insert (1) 1-1/4” bolt with a washer into the upper holes circled in Figure 9.
- Add (1) spacer to each bolt as shown.
- Place the fender against the body and insert the bolts into the drilled holes.
- Install (1) washer and a lock-nut. Adjust the lower fender for the best possible fitment and tighten down the hardware.
