The designation, Marking, and Application
Certification
The device described in this operating manual complies with Directive 89/686
EEC or Regulation (EU) 2016/425, respectively. DEKRA EXAM GmbH,
Dinnendahlstrasse 9, 44809 Bochum (Germany), Notified Body 0158. The
Declaration of Conformity can be found under the following link:

Application
- The mask as part of the respiratory protective device ensures an appropriately tight fit of the user’s face against the ambient atmosphere. The mask as part of the respiratory protective device ensures an appropriately tight fit of the user’s face against the ambient atmosphere.
- The full face mask is not a complete respiratory protective device by itself, but only a part (facepiece) which connects the device with the respiratory tracts of the user. It serves as facepiece (EN 136, class 2) with standard thread connection (EN 148 -1) for respiratory protective filters, fresh air hose breathing apparatus and compressed air line breathing apparatus, power assisted filtering devices (turbo filtering devices) and compressed air breathing apparatus.
- The relevant instructions for use of these devices must be observed at all times. Applicable national regulations covering se-lection and use of respiratory protective devices must be followed. When used in potentially explosive areas the full face mask must be treated with an antistatic spray or a water mist must be used.
- Users with facial hair like beards or sideburns are not likely to achieve a tight seal, since the hair will break the facepiece-to-face seal.
- Persons requiring corrective eyewear must use the prescription spectacles 3S in order to get a tight facepiece-to-face seal.
Design, Functioning and Use
The inhalation air flows from the connector of the mask past the inhalation valve to the inside of the lens (thus keeping the lens largely free from fogging) and from there through the check valves into the nose cup. The exhalation air passes directly through the exhalation valve to the ambient atmosphere.
Stand-By
For stand-by the mask is stored in a carrier or carrying bag to protect it against dirt.
Donning
Spread the head harness apart with both hands and first place the chin into
the chin stop. Pull the harness over the head (make sure that the straps lie
flat against the head) and tighten the straps evenly and firmly, starting with
the neck straps, then temple straps and lastly the forehead strap (Fig. 1 and
2).
Note:
This sequence must be maintained under all circumstances in order to assure
that the center section of the harness encompasses the back of the head!
Tightness Check
In order to check the facepiece-to-face seal, a tightness check must be performed. To do this, cover the connector opening or the entry opening of the filter with the palm of the hand (palm test, Fig. 3). When inhaling and holding the breath no air shall leak in. The check has to be performed before each use. A more reliable tightness check is with the complete respiratory protective device in a test chamber.
Removal
- To loosen the head harness, push the buckles forward with the thumbs (Fig. 4).
- Then grasp the mask by the connector and pull it backwards over the head (Fig. 5).
Cleaning and Disinfection
Note:
After every cleaning and disinfection a tightness test according to Sect. 4.2
must be made!
Cleaning
The dirty mask is cleaned with lukewarm water containing a mild detergent. Prior to washing, take out the nose cup, unscrew the valve housing and remove the inhalation and exhalation valve discs. These components are cleaned separately and reassembled only after drying. Cleaned parts must not be dried in radiant heat (sunlight, radiators). When using a drying cabinet the temperature must not exceed 50 °C. See Sect. 5 for cleaning intervals.
Disinfection
Masks should be disinfected after having been cleaned according to Sect. 3.1. Information about the concentration and time is contained in the instructions for use of the disinfectant. After disinfecting thoroughly flush all components with water as described in Sect. 3.1, dry and reassemble. See Sect. 5 for disinfection intervals.
Maintenance
Maintenance of the full face mask must be performed by the maintenance technician (or by the user if there is no maintenance technician). It includes visual, functional and tightness tests, as well as replacing components.
Visual and Function Test
The visual and function test serves to identify damaged components and
functional disorders, especially at the valves. In case of doubt about the
functioning of a component, it must be replaced immediately or the MSA
customer service must be contacted.
During the visual test, adherence to the test intervals according to Sect. 5
must be observed.
Tightness Test
The tightness test is made with the MSA tightness test kit for full face masks. The test is described in the Instructions for Use for the test kit. Prior to using tightness kits from other manufacturers, the MSA customer service should be consulted.
Replacement of Components
For repair only MSA spare parts must be used.
Replacing the Exhalation Valve Disc and the Valve Gasket
To replace the exhalation valve disc, remove the nose cup from the exhalation valve housing. Unscrew the valve housing with the special tool (Fig. 6). Replace the exhalation valve disc and gasket and reassemble in reverse order.
Replacing the Lens
Loosen screws on lens ring, remove both ring halves and take out the lens (see Fig. 7). Prior to fitting the new lens, assure that the groove of the face blank is completely clean. When assembling the new lens, the middle markings on the new lens and lens ring must match the marking on the face blank from the mold.
Intervals
The maintenance intervals are recommended by MSA. Applicable national regulations must be observed. If required, the local conditions during use must be considered for the work to be performed. In case of doubt, the local MSA representative should be consulted and the applicable national regulations be checked.
- Facepieces which are regularly used should be cleaned and disinfected as often as required. They should be cleaned as soon as possible after each use because perspiration or saliva that dries unto the valves could cause malfunctions. The mask must be disinfected at least before it is used by another person.
- For airtight packaged facepieces.
Storage
The mask should be stored in the carrier. In order to prevent damage or
distortion of the mask, no additional objects must be stored in the carrier.
Storage must be in clean and dry condition in normal climate, i.e. cool, dry,
free from hazardous material, protected against light and radiant heat. It is
recommended to observe German Standard DIN 7716:1982 and ISO 2230:2002.
