Redbeard Effects PARADYNAMIC OVERDRIVE MKII Angry Rhubarb
Congratulations and thank you for purchasing this Redbeard Effects pedal! This
little box of sonic exploration was dreamt up, designed, engineered, built,
tested and packaged in the UK by hand. We’re really proud of this pedal and we
hope you enjoy using & abusing it. Introducing our first foray into the
overdrive world, the Angry Rhubarb Paradynamic Overdrive MKII.
There’s a lot of debate over whether an overdrive circuit sounds better before
or after an EQ circuit. We figured, why not have both? By jamming two
gloriously independent overdrive circuits on either side of an extremely
interactive EQ, the Angry Rhubarb was born. An obsessive amount of tweaks,
modifications and refinement landed us at the MKII model. This pedal brings a
surgical approach to sculpting your tone by way of a Parametric EQ section.
This circuit constantly interacts with both overdrive controls as well as your
playing dynamic, allowing you to create some truly world-class overdriven
tones. With a low to medium drive in the front and another medium-to-more
drive in the back, the Angry Rhubarb has got you covered.
HOW TO USE YOUR ANGRY RHUBARB
First and foremost, plug your instrument into in ‘IN’ jack, and the ‘OUT’ jack into your amplifier. Sounds obvious, but we’ve all plugged in a pedal backwards before. Just make sure you don’t EVER do it again ok?
- VOLUME: Controls the overall output of the Angry Rhubarb pedal. All the way down = silence! All the way up= loud. Depending on your guitar/signal chain, unity is at around 10 O’Clock. Be warned (again) that this pedal has a lot of headroom.
- PRE DRIVE: This knob adds gain to the signal before it hits the EQ (or ‘SHAPE’) section. The more gain you add, the harder the signal hits the EQ stage, making for increased dynamics and an edgier tone. Think of this as a low to medium gain boost, or the ‘overdrive before the EQ’ control.
‘SHAPE’:
These two knobs work in conjunction to control the Parametric EQ section of
the Angry Rhubarb. One picks a frequency, the other cuts or boots. These two
knobs allow you to carve inspiring tones that can really cut through, or
support a mix.
- FREQ GAIN: This control allows you to cut or boost your selected frequency by 6db. Tum, it all the way up or down and tum the FREQ knob to hear the frequency circuit in action!
- FREQ: Selects the precise frequency that you want to cut or boost. The frequency range goes from 80Hz up to 4kHz.
- POST DRIVE: The final gain stage in the Angry Rhubarb, this knob adds gain to the signal after the ‘SHAPE’ section has added its unique EQ sculpt to your signal. Use this knob to add more gain to the signal and spice up the overall tone. Think of this as a ‘less to more’ gain control, or the overdrive after your EQ.
- BYPASS FOOTSWITCH: This controls the Overdrive. One click for on, one-click for off. And yes, the Angry Rhubarb is a True Bypass pedal.

OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF
POWER
The ANGRY RHUBARB is designed to work at voltages of 9V DC. Please employ the use of good quality, CENTRE NEGATIVE dedicated pedal power supply (such as the Gig Rig Generator or Voodoo Labs Pedal Power Plus 2). DO NOT attempt to use this pedal with other voltages or polarities. Frying this baby with the wrong kind of power invalidates your warranty, and leaves telltale signs on the circuit board. Please don’t do it!
WARRANTY
The ANGRY RHUBARB is guaranteed for 2 years against manufacturing faults or defects. This guarantee is applicable to the original owner and is NOT transferable.
COMPONENTS
All our pedals are made with extremely high-quality components. 1 % metal film resistors, WIMA, and Panasonic capacitors where possible and super robust, through-hole gold-plated PCBs. We’ve chosen this approach to give you sonic bliss, ultimate reliability, and a super-low noise floor.
