Setup

Installation
Find a suitable location for the amplifier and if necessary, fasten it using the mounting brackets. Screw on the included antenna to the antenna jack and put it in a vertical position.

Notes
Make sure to place the amplifier within the WiFi signal range. A weak signal can lead to connectivity issues. In this case, we recommend installing a WiFi repeater to increase WiFi coverage. The amplifier can also be connected to the router via an Ethernet cable to be fully integrated into your network instantly and provide the most stable performance.

Making the connections

OMNITRONIC-CIA-40WIFI-Multi-Room-Streaming-Amplifier-

To connect your speakers:

  1.  Connect your passive speakers to the speaker terminals (13): R = right speaker, L = left speaker). Make sure the polarity is correct. To facilitate handling, the terminals can be removed from their plug-in connections on the unit and replaced after connection. To obtain the highest output power, connect speakers with an impedance of 4 Ω. It is also possible to connect speakers with higher impedance; this, however, will reduce the output power accordingly.
  2.  Alternatively, you can use the RCA connectors (11) for audio output. Use standard stereo RCA cables to connect line-level devices (active speakers, stereo, receiver, etc.) to these outputs.

To connect the power supply:
Connect the amplifier to a mains socket via the included power adapter. Thus, the amplifier will be switched on. For a more convenient operation, use a mains outlet which is switchable. Always disconnect the mains connector when the unit is not used for a longer period.

Network Configuration

The CIA-40WIFI uses an existing WiFi network to play audio streams. There are several ways to set up and control the CIA-40WIFI. It can be integrated into the WiFi network via its WPS functionality or the 4STREAM app. The CIA-40WIFI can also create a WiFi network of its own that can be accessed via your mobile device. Both access types can be used at the same time. Cable connection via Ethernet to a router is also supported. If the DHCP function is activated on the router, the initial network setup is automatic.
In any case, when establishing the wireless connection for the first time, make sure to place the CIA-40WIFI as close as possible to the router to achieve an optimum WiFi transmission. Then install the CIA-40WIFI within the WiFi signal range. The CIA-40WIFI will save the connection data, so the next time you switch it on you do not need to re-establish the connection again.

6.1 Access point mode
The CIA-40WIFI can be used as an independent access point to create a WiFi network. This is the easiest and fastest way to stream audio from an AirPlay or DLNA player on a computer, smartphone or tablet to the CIA-40WIFI. Multi- room use is not available in this mode.
To connect to the amplifier:
Connect your WiFi-enabled device to the CIA-40WIFI. It will be indicated in the list of WiFi networks by its SSID “CIA-40WIFI_xxxx“ (“xxxx“ represents the last four digits to differentiate between several amplifiers).

6.2 WiFi connection via WPS

OMNITRONIC-CIA-40WIFI-Multi-Room-Streaming-Amplifier-
fig4
If your router features a WPS button, the easiest way to connect the amplifier to the WiFi network is using this button.

To establish the WiFi connection via WPS:

  1.  Activate the WPS function at the router and confirm the connection by briefly pressing the WPS button at the CIA-40WIFI. The announcement “Searching for WiFi connection“ will be heard and the STATUS indicator will flash rapidly.
  2.  The CIA-40WIFI will be automatically connected to the WiFi network. Upon completion, the amplifier will announce “WiFi connected” and the STATUS indicator will light continuously.
  3.  Now the CIA-40WIFI can play audio streams from the network.

LAN connection
If the device is connected to your router with activated DHCP via a network cable, the initial network setup is automatic and the CIA-40WIFI can play audio streams from the network immediately.

Using the 4STREAM App

In order to fully benefit from all features of the CIA-40WIFI, we recommend the 4STREAM app. You can download the app for free in the Play Store or App Store. Using 4STREAM, you will be able to connect the amplifier to your WiFi network and conveniently control it from your smartphone or tablet. The app lets you access all music sources, customize radio stations, control the volume and more for one or several amplifiers.

First steps with the appOMNITRONIC-CIA-40WIFI-Multi-Room-Streaming-
Amplifier-fig5

  1.  Download the 4STREAM app to your mobile device in the Play Store or App Store. The QR codes on page 23 will take you to the direct download pages.
  2.  Connect your mobile device to the CIA-40WIFI’s WiFi network “CIA-40WIFI_xxxx“.
  3.  Launch the app and follow the on-screen instructions to connect the amplifier to your WiFi network. During the connection process you can assign a unique name to the amplifier so you can better identify it on the network. Once the amplifier is connected to your WiFi network, you will have access to all the functions from your mobile device.
  4.  After setup is finished you can add further CIA-40WIFI to your WiFi network in the same manner.

Overview of all menus
The app is clearly organized and intuitive to use. The most important functions are described below.

  1.  The Device list shows all available amplifiers in your network (fig. 7). In solo mode they can be individually controlled and adjusted via the symbol (e.g. name change). Switch to multi mode to group and control them together and play the same music in every room.
  2.  The Main menu lets you play music from the following audio sources (fig. 8).
    •   My Music: To play music from your smartphone or tablet, a NAS hard disk or a USB flash drive connected to the amplifier. The sound of the USB flash drive can also be transmitted through the multi-room feature.
    • Radio by TuneIn: Select from more than 100,000 free internet radio stations, shows and podcasts. You can assign up to six radio stations to the preset buttons on the amplifier.
    • Spotify and further music services: Stream from your Spotify app, Napster, Tidal and others. Service availability varies by region. You will need fee-based subscriptions to use these music apps. Playback control and music title selection is done from these apps. Alternatively, you can control some functions (Play / Pause / Next title / Previous title) from the 4STREAM app.
    • External audio devices: You can connect an audio device such as a turntable to the AUX input of the amplifier. This sound can also be transmitted through the multi-room feature. You can prioritize the AUX input by pressing the multi-function button for six seconds.
  3.  The Preset screen allows for easy access to your favorite radio stations (fig. 9). To add a radio station to this list, tap the symbol after the name of the radio station. The first six stations will be assigned to the preset buttons 1-6 on the amplifier. The streaming internet addresses will be stored in the CIA-40WIFI and can then be called up independently of the app via the appropriate buttons on the amplifier.

Operation

Switching the amplifier on
The CIA-40WIFI will be switched on as soon as it is connected to the power supply. It will automatically go to the operating mode most recently selected, which will be indicated by the LEDs (1). If the amplifier was connected to a WiFi network before, it will automatically try to re-establish the connection. The STATUS indicator will flash rapidly during this process; it will light continuously once the connection has been established.

Description of the status indicators:
