Setup
Placing the mixer
The mixer can be used as a table top unit or it can be installed into a
console. Please make sure that there is enough space around the unit for
ventilation to improve heat dissipation. Steady overheating will damage the
unit.
Cable connections
The mixer offers numerous, highly flexible possibilities for balanced or
unbalanced connection of professional audio equipment. To avoid interfering
noise, switch off the mixer or set the output controls to minimum prior to
connecting and disconnecting equipment. Be sure to use only short, high-grade
cables. The illustrations below show the wiring of these cables.
Powering up
To protect your audio equipment, specifically your speakers, follow this
power-up sequence: Set all output volume controls of any equipment to minimum.
Switch on your audio sources first, then the mixer. Always switch on
amplifiers last. Then turn up the volume control on your sources (if provided)
and set the output volume of the mixer to a low level. Turn up the volume
controls of your amplifier(s) slowly. Make adjustments to all volume settings
as needed. For switching off, follow the inverse sequence: always switch off
amplifiers first, then the mixer and then the audio sources.
Operation
Basic adjustment of the input channels
- First set all gain controls, equalizer controls and the crossfader to mid-position.
- Use the input selector in channel 1 to select the input to which the audio source is connected.
- Feed an audio signal (test signal or music piece) to the channel and advance the channel fader to approx. 2/3 of its maximum. Set the other channel fader to zero.
- To monitor the signal via the speaker of a PA system connected, advance the master control to approx. 2/3 of its maximum. The signal can also be monitored via headphones.
- Route channel 1 to the monitor path with the CUE button and switch the LED level meter to monitor mode with the button (20). Now the LED meter indicates the prefader signal of channel 1.
- Via the LED meter, control the level of the channel with the corresponding gain control. If the red clip LEDs of the meter light up, there is an overload of the channel and the level of the input signal must be reduced.
- Repeat the steps for the other input channel as described above.
Adjustment of the output channel
The output signal is fed to the adjustable master output and to the recording
output without individual level control.
- Switch the LED level meter to master mode with the button (20).
- Via the LED level display, adjust the master signal to an optimum level with the master control. Usually an optimum level control is obtained if the LED level display shows values in the 0 dB range at average volume. However, if the red clip LEDs light up, the master signal must be controlled to a corresponding lower level.
- The master signal at the recording output REC is taken off ahead of the output controls, i.e. it is not affected by the master control.
Crossfading between the two input channels
- The crossfader allows crossfading between both input channels:
- crossfader moved to the left: fade-in of channel 1 and fade-out of channel 2
- crossfader moved to the right: fade-in of channel 2 and fade-out of channel 1
- For hearing the signals of the two channels at the same level, set the crossfader to mid-position.
- Use selector switch X-FADER REVERSE to reverse channel 1 and 2 for the crossfader.
- The selector switch CURVE allows for adjustment of the crossfading characteristic: Use the left position for sharp crossfading (e.g. for scratching and cutting) and the right position for smooth crossfading (e.g. for long mixes). Do not use this switch while a signal is present as this may cause a sudden change in volume.
Announcements via the DJ microphone
Adjust the volume of the microphone announcement with the control MIC LEVEL
and optimize the sound with the tone controls HIGH and LOW.
Prefader listening to the channels
The cue function allows monitoring each of the input channels via headphones
even if the corresponding channel is faded out. Thus, it is possible, e. g. to
time the moment for fading in an audio source. Alternatively it is also
possible to monitor the current music program ahead of the master control.
- For prefader listening to a channel, select the corresponding position with the CUE switch and set the control CUE MIX to the left stop position. To monitor the current music program ahead of the master control, set the control to the right stop position.
- Adjust the desired headphone volume with the control CUE LEVEL.
- To indicate the monitor level via the LED meter, set the corresponding switch to position CUE.
Using the audio player
The audio player allows streaming music from your mobile devices such as
smartphones, tablets and notebooks and accepts USB storage devices with MP3,
WMA and WAV files.
- To use the audio player, set the corresponding input selector to the left position PLAYER.
- For Bluetooth operation press the PAIRING button to enter pairing mode. The display indicates “ConnectingV”.
- Activate the Bluetooth function at the Bluetooth source and start the device scan. Select “PM-222P“ from the list and connect the devices.
- Now play music at the Bluetooth source as you normally would and use the control elements of the input channel to mix the audio player’s signal to the master signal.
- For USB operation insert a USB drive into the USB port. After loading a device, it is selected as the playback medium and read in. The display shows various information. If a data carrier is not recognized at the first try, remove it and insert it again. Now use the PLAY/ STOP and / buttons for playback control.
