WHAT IS THE SURF RIDER IV?

Originally created for use in Hammond Organs, spring reverb was introduced to guitar amps in the early 1960’s forever changing the sound of rock & roll. Whether you add just a touch for a little extra depth and space or if you like to drench your rig with the dripping sounds of a crashing wave, nothing quite captures the vibe of surf & summer like a good spring tank. The Surf Rider, now in it’s fourth iteration, emulates 3 distinct spring styles including a small tank based on a 60’s Reverberocket amp, the classic splash of our early silver panel Super Reverb and our fantasy tank with a slightly exaggerated drip and decay when you need a little more of everything. Housed in a compact package with expanded controls and added features like soft touch bypass switching with trails, momen-tary or latching modulation and top jacks, the Surf Rider is guaranteed to satisfy like a cool breeze in the sweltering heat. So plug in honey bunny, crank it up and get your Dick Dale on.

What do the knobs do?

Decay: This sets the amount of time your signal bounces back and forth in the spring tank. If you turn it up all the way, your signal will clang, twerp, and bounce with a huge tail.
Level: Controls the volume of the reverb (wet) signal. Dwell: How bouncy and twerpy you want your spring tank to be? Turn it up all the way and get lost in the splash that a spring tank is famous for or turn it down to get a warmer ‘verb. Body: Controls how chunky you want the reverb tank to be. Looking for a huge, echoey tail? Turn it up all the way! Want the boing to cut through the mix? Turn it down.Tank: Choose between 3 finely tuned spring reverb emulators. Bypass (Flutter): Tap to turn the effect on or off. Hold to apply modulation to your reverb tails. 9V DC Input: This pedal uses a negative center, 9V DC power supply with a 2.1mm barrel plug. Current draw is 65mA.
IMPORTANT: USE OF AN IMPROPER POWER SUPPLY WILL VOID WARRANTY

What ARE THE DIFFERENT TANKS?

The Surf Rider IV comes jam packed with 3 distinct spring reverb tanks, selectable via the 3 position toggle, each carefully crafted to give you the ultimate spring reverb experience. Rocket (left): this is a small and tight tank designed to deliver the perfect amount of reverb without getting in the way. An homage to low-watt vintage combos and tape units with built-in spring tanks, the Rocket will give your sound the burst it needs to bounce and take off. So-Cal (center): this is a classic 60’s surf rock spring reverb sound. Plug in your Jazzmasters, dive-in, and make a splash because this tank packs all that bounce and twerp from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. Super Tank (right): this is our spring tank pushed to the limits. The springs are floppier than any you’ve ever heard, the reverb tail is longer than any natural spring tank with a splash of resonance and casual clip. Everything that we love about spring reverb, just cranked up to 11!

What about dip switches and Flutter?

The Surf Rider offers a multi-function footswitch that both turns the pedal on or off when tapped or activates a mild pitch modulation when held. Internal dip switches set the function of the bypass and modulation as described below. The Speed and Depth of the modulation can be set by holding down the bypass switch (LED will blink twice) and simultaneously adjusting the Dwell(Speed) and Body(Depth) knobs. Dip 1 – Trails: This switch sets the bypass. Set ON, the Surf Rider is in trails mode. When bypassed, the reverb signal will fade gradually. When set OFF, it is in buffered bypass mode. When bypassed, the reverb will cut immediately. DIP 2 – Modulation: This switch selects beween a momentary or latching flutter function. When set to latching, the flutter (modu-lation) is turned on by holding the bypassswitch – hold it again to turn it off. In momentary mode, press and hold the bypass switch to engage the flutter, the modulation automatically turns off once the button is released.
