EVERYDAY ELECTRIC JJRNY-BLU Encore ST E-Bike Instruction Manual

INTRODUCTION

If there is one thing we could all agree on, it’s that riding a bike should be fun. Not painful. Not work. Not something to be thought of with a deep sigh and a “well, if I HAVE to” grumble. Fun, like when you were a kid and getting on your bike meant you were free from the risk of getting asked to do the chores or your homework.

And now, thanks to technology, we are able to offer you an even easier way to ride. Your e-bike is powered by 36v lithium-ion battery that drives a 250w rear hub motor, assisting each pedal stroke with 5 different levels of pedal assist. Remember that hill near your house that you avoid because you hate the feeling of walking your bike up it? Go show it who’s boss!

We’re going to help you track down the fun you forgot you had on a bike, from way back when. It’s been lost for way too long.

To register your Everyday E-Bike, please visit us atwww.everydaybicycles.ca and register in the support page. You can find your unique serial number laser engraved on the rear hub of the bicycle.

ASSEMBLY

There are 5 main assembly steps to getting your new Everyday e-bike built up and ready to safely ride. All of these are covered in detail in the following sections, but in general, you need to attach the handlebars, insert the front wheel into the fork and attach the front disc brake caliper, and then attach the front fender, the pedals and saddle with seat post assembly.

If you have any concerns about any of these steps, or have any questions, please contact us at [email protected] or at 855-249-1471.

ATTACHING THE HANDLEBAR

The handlebar and stem are shipped assembled and connected to the wiring harness.

Insert the Handlebar/Stem Assembly into the frame headtube, taking care to guide the stem through the headset parts and slide the headset cover down into place over the headset parts (Fig 1).

Adjust the Handlebar/Stem Assembly to the desired height, ensuring that the Minimum Insertion Mark is inside the frame and not visible. Using the supplied Allen key, tighen the Stem Bolt slowly and adjust the Handlebar/Stem Assembly so it is facing straight (Fig 2).

NOTE: The Stem has a “Minimum Insertion Mark” stamped onto it, which is shown by the knurling on the tube. (Fig. 2.5) These marks must always be BELOW the top of the headtube of the bicycle frame. If the bicycle is ridden with these marks above the headtube, the Stem can unexpectedly bend or break due to the leverage being placed on it by the weight of the rider. Failure to insert the Stem properly into the frame can cause injury and/or damage to the bicycle frame and components.

The LCD ships connected, but in case a wire comes loose, connect all the wires according to the color **(Fig. 4).

**

INSERTING THE FRONT WHEEL ASSEMBLY

First, locate the Front Wheel Quick Release Axle, which is shipped with the tools in a separate box. Remove the axle nut and the corresponding spring, placing them near the bike so that you can reach them in the next step **(Fig 4).

**

With the Quick Release Lever open (Fig. 5), insert the Front Wheel Assembly into the wheel mounts at the bottom of the fork and slide the Quick Release Axle through the hub of the wheel (Fig. 6), placing the spring and the axle nut onto the open end of the axle rod (Fig. 7). Tighten the axle nut, and close the Quick Release Lever so that there is sufficient tension to hold the wheel in place. Spin the wheel to make sure that its centred, and ensure that the front axle is secure.

Please contact our Customer Service team if you are having trouble with anything related to attaching the Front Wheel.

ATTACHING THE DISC BRAKE CALIPER

The Disc Brake Caliper is shipped pre-attached to the brake cable, so it only needs to be attached to the front fork caliper mounting bosses **(Fig. 8).

**

Using the supplied tool, loosely attach the top bolt of the Caliper Assembly and guide the assembly onto the Disc Brake Rotor. Loosely tighten the bottom bolt, and then alternate tightening each of the bolts a half turn. The Disc Brake should be spinning through the Disc Brake Caliper smoothly and not binding **(Fig. 10).

**

Take care not to squeeze the front brake lever while the disc brake is not inserted into the disc brake caliper, or the brake pads could seize together.

ATTACHING THE FRONT FENDER

To install the Front Fender, first remove the nut from the Top Fender Bolt, located in the Fork. **(Fig. 11).

**

Next, remove both of the Lower Fender Support Arm bolts from the front fork dropouts (Fig 12).

Slide the Front Fender through the space between the fork legs and the top of the Front Tire, and position the Fork Bracket onto the Top Fender Bolt (Fig 13). Loosely replace the nut on the Top Fender Bolt, only tight enough so that the fender remains in place.

Then, position the left Lower Fender Support Arm over the corresponding hole in the dropout, and tighten it loosely. Repeat this step for the right Lower Fender Support Arm (Fig. 13.5).

Once all three contact points are in place, reposition the Front Fender, and slowly tighten the nut and the Lower Fender Support Arm screws. The fender should not rub the tire.

ATTACHING THE PEDALS

Each pedal is labelled either Left or Right, and has either a L or R stamped into the end of the pedal axle **(Fig. 14)

**

When you are seated on your bicycle, the left side of the bike is also your left side. The left is also referred to as the “non-drive side”, since the crank assembly and drivetrain are on the right side of the bike (the “drive side”). The Left and Right pedals can ONLY be installed on the correct side of the bike, so it is very important to make sure that you have the appropriate pedals for the correct side of the bike.

To start, insert the pedal into the crank arm, and start to tighten the threads towards the front of the bicycle. Hand tighten the pedal first to ensure that its correctly threaded, and going into the crank arm smoothly. To finish tightening the pedal, use the supplied pedal wrench, and apply an appropriate amount of tension so that they pedal is fully tightened (Fig. 15). Repeat this process for the other side of the bicycle.

ATTACHING THE SADDLE

The saddle and seat post are shipped attached. Take the entire assembly, and insert the seat post into the seat tube of the bicycle. Adjust the height of the saddle to your riding comfort, and tighten the Quick Release Saddle Lever **(Fig. 16).

**

NOTE: The seat post has a “Minimum Insertion Mark” stamped onto it, which is shown by the knurling on the tube. These marks must always be BELOW the top of the seat tube of the bicycle frame. If the bicycle is ridden with these marks above the seat tube, the seat post can unexpectedly bend or break due to the leverage being placed on it by the weight of the rider. Failure to insert the seat tube properly into the frame can cause injury and/or damage to the bicycle frame and components.

SAFETY CHECK: Before each ride, please check to make sure that all of the key components of your bicycle are in good working order, and that all of the axle nuts and quick release clamps are properly tightened. Check to make sure that your tire pressure is sufficient, and that all of your display wires are plugged in and working. Check to ensure that your braking system is functioning properly, and that your disc brakes are running smoothly through the caliper. If you have any questions about your bicycle function, please contact our Customer Service team at any time.

BATTERY CHARGING

The rechargeable lithium-ion battery on your Everyday e-bike is located in the down tube of the frame. Before you ride your bike, the battery needs to be fully charged for 12 hours. For the first three charge cycles (after you have used the bike enough to drain the battery to less than 25%), charge it for 12 hours even if the battery is showing charged. After the first three charge cycles, just charge it to full when the battery is less than 25%, which will be shown when the light on the charger is green (probably 4-6 hours). This will help to maintain the long term life of the battery. The charging port is located on the left side of the frame, near the bottom bracket (Fig. 17). For every charge after the first three, only charge your battery until it’s fully charged (charger light turns from red to green). Do not leave it charging overnight. Only use the supplied charger to charge your battery **(Fig. 18).

**

To charge the battery:

  • Plug one end of the power cord into a grounded AC outlet, and then plug the smaller end into the bicycle charging port (Fig. 19).
  • While charging, the light on the charger will be RED.
  • When fully charged, the light on the charger will be GREEN.

NOTE: always plug the charger into the wall BEFORE attaching the bicycle end to the bicycle charging port. If the bicycle is plugged into the charger without power present, the charger will show green, even though the battery is not charged.

Please follow these battery safety guidelines:

  • Always charge your battery when the bicycle display shows Low Battery.
  • Do not overcharge your battery, and do not leave your battery charging overnight.
  • Do not use your bicycle if the battery is leaking, overheats, or is emitting a strange odour. Call our Customer Service team immediately.
  • If the battery is leaking, do not touch any leaking materials, as the battery contains dangerous substances.
  • Do not open the battery and do not insert anything into the battery.
  • Only use the supplied charger for this battery. Using another charger can cause serious damage or fire.
  • Do not use this battery if it has been over-discharged. Call our Customer Service team immediately.
  • Do not turn on the bicycle while it is charging.

GEARS

The Exploit is a 21-speed e-bike. There are 3 gears in the front and 7 in the rear. Change gears by using the Shifters on the handlebar. Only shift gears when pedaling. These gears do not require battery power, and if the battery runs out, you can still use these gears.

PEDAL ASSIST

The Pedal Assist mode was designed to make riding an e-bike mimic the natural motion you are used to feeling when riding a bicycle. As you pedal your bike, a sensor is activated, which in turn generates power from the motor. The power is activated only when you pedal and the amount of power is determined by the pedal assist level that you choose. The Pedal Assist mode (from 1-5) provides power and propels the bike as you pedal. A low Pedal Assist level will require effort from you to pedal. The higher the level, the less effort is required by the rider to move the bike forward. To increase the Pedal Assist, press the Up (+) button. To decrease the Pedal Assist, press the Down (-) button. Always start off slowly and gradually increase your level. Make sure your speed is appropriate to riding conditions (weather, road surface, traffic/pedestrians, etc.). Level 0 will not use Pedal Assist.

SPEEDOMETER

You can cycle through the main display options by pressing the Power button ( ). The options are Trip (TRIP), Total Distance (ODO), and Fault Monitoring (E00).

To reset the TRIP reading, tap the Power button ( ) quickly.

WALK MODE

The Walk Mode will provide a small amount of power to the hub motor to allow you to walk alongside the bike without needing to push it. Stand at the side of the bike with both hands on the handlebars and make sure the way in front of you is clear. Press and hold the Down (-) button to enable Walk Mode. Release the Down (-) button to exit Walk Mode.

TURNING ON THE FRONT LED HEADLIGHT AND REAR LED LIGHT

Front LED Headlight: Press and hold the Up (+) button to turn on the Front LED Headlight and the LCD Display Backlight. When the Front LED Headlight and LCD Display Backlight are on, you will see a headlight symbol on the LCD Display. The Rear LED Light is powered by separate, removable batteries, and must be turned on and off manually. The Front LED Headlight and LCD Backlight are connected to the battery of the bike.

BATTERY INDICATOR

The battery charge level is indicated by the bars at the top of the control screen. When all the bars are lit up the battery is fully charged. As the battery is drained, the bars will disappear going to the left, until there is only 1 bar left. Battery capacity percentages are shown in the chart on the next page.

NOTE: If the battery is completely drained, the bicycle can still be used as a normal bicycle until it can be charged again.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

DRIVING RANGE

The average range of the bicycle is 40+ kms. However, a lot of factors will affect how far you can go per charge:

  • Driving surface: A smooth, flat surface will increase driving distance.
  • Weight: More weight means less distance.
  • Ambient temperature: Please ride and store the bicycle under recommended temperature, which will increase its longevity and driving distance.
  • Maintenance: Timely battery charging and maintenance will increase driving distance.
  • Speed and driving style: Maintaining a moderate speed will increase distance. Frequent starting and stopping, acceleration, and deceleration will reduce it.

SPEED LIMIT

The top assisted speed of the bicycle is set at 32 km/h to obey Canadian regulations.

WEIGHT LIMIT

The maximum load is 300 lbs. Going above the maximum weight limit can cause injury or damage the bicycle.

CLEANING YOUR E-BIKE
