Tail Light Removal
Tail lamp removal will differ slightly with different models. Unplug the unit from the truck wiring. It is a large 7 pin connector. On most models, the tail lamp will be held in with 3 bolts. Undo each nut on the unit in the back and pull the unit out. Repeat this process for the other side.
LED Tail Light Installation
The truck harness will have a 7-pin harness on most models. This includes 4 positive connections and 3 ground connections. The 8002G2 will have 4 positive connections and one ground connection. To determine the wire functions, use a test light to test each function on each wire.
The wiring color codes for the 8002G2 is:
- Black -Connection: Reverse Light
- white connection: Common Ground
- Yellow – Connection: Turn Signal Positive
- Brown – Positive Connection: Running Light
- Red – Connection: Brake Light Positive
Connect the 3 grounds to the one common ground (white wire) on the new unit.
The other 4 connections will connect to corresponding wires on the 8002G2
unit. Please reference the colors above. To connect to the OE wire harness,
splice each wire.
NOTE: If you have an issue with the reverse light turning off during
braking, ground the reverse and brake light negative connections from the
truck wiring harness to the frame I body.
Reinstall LED Tail Light
Using the hardware provided, reinstall the LED tail lamp into the original mounting position. The 8002G2 unit uses two bolts to attach. Do not over tighten the bolts. Repeat this for the other side.
