Installation:

Below are steps for a typical installation on most Harley Davidson models. Steps may be different depending on the model. Please ensure you have read through the instructions and understand them clearly before attempting the installation.

WARNING!

  • To prevent possible electrical shock, disconnect the negative battery terminal before installing this product. Remove the main fuse if applicable. Park the bike on a level surface.

Installation on a Road King

  1. Remove the headlight. To remove the headlamp assembly, consult the manufacturer’s service manual for the specific procedure.
  2. Take out the passing lamp toggle switch from the rear of the headlight housing and guide both the toggle switch and the 4-pin connector through the front of the headlight housing to access the wiring.
  3. Identify the black wire within the 4-pin connector and follow it to its connection with the toggle switch. Disconnect the female terminal of this wire from the toggle switch.
  4. Locate the red wire, which has an insulated female spade connector, from the harness assembly. Connect this wire to the spade on the toggle switch from which the black wire was disconnected in step 3.
  5. Cover the end of the female spade connector on the black wire, removed in step 3, with a piece of heat shrink tubing or electrical tape to prevent any short-circuiting.
  6. Find the 2-pin connector with an orange/white stripe wire and a black wire, which is connected in-line to the fender tip light. Disconnect these connectors.
  7. Install the 2-pin connectors from the harness assembly into each of the 2-pin connectors on the fender tip harness, matching male to female and female to male.
  8. Reinstall the toggle switch in its original position, ensuring that all wiring is securely positioned to avoid any pinching, cutting, or fraying. Follow the detailed service manual instructions to reassemble the headlamp assembly.
  9. Reinstall the main fuse as instructed in the service manual or reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
  10. Test the functionality of the passing lamps. Turn on the ignition power (without starting the engine) and test the passing lamps by using the rocker switch on the dashboard to turn them on and off. Confirm that they function correctly in both low and high beam modes.

Installation on a Softail

  1. Take out the toggle switch from the left rear cowl cover and route it out from behind the panel to provide access to the wiring.
  2. Disconnect the yellow wire from the toggle switch.
  3. To prevent short-circuiting, cover the spade connector on the yellow wire with a piece of heat shrink tubing or tape.
  4. Attach the Red wire with the spade connector from the Lamp control harness to the same position on the toggle switch where the yellow wire was removed.
  5. Once you’ve located the harness connector, separate the connectors by pushing in the center tab and pulling the male and female sides apart.
  6. Connect the 2-pin connectors from the harness assembly into each of the 2-pin connectors on the fender tip harness, ensuring the male and female connectors match appropriately.
  7. Follow the detailed service manual instructions to reinstall the fuel tank.
  8. Route the toggle switch and wiring back behind the panel, and secure the switch into the rear cowl cover.
  9. Reinstall the main fuse as instructed in the service manual or reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
  10. Test the functionality of the passing lamps. Turn on the ignition power (without starting the engine) and test the passing lamps by using the toggle switch to turn them on and off. Ensure they operate correctly in both low and high beam modes.
  11. Locate the black 2-pin connector, which contains an orange wire with a white stripe and a black wire, leading to the front fender tip light. You can find this connector behind the left front side of the fuel tank.
