Getting to know your new Z-Wave device
- Z-Wave certified for simple pairing and integrated home automation
- Transmits notifications to the connected controller when water leaks or changes in area temperature are detected
- Dual-detection options — contacts on the sensor base or separate plug-in detection probe for hard-to-reach locations
- Red LED indicates programming changes and status
- Alarm for audible notification of leaks
- Supports association with up to five devices
- Easy auto-pairing and button-press settings
- Automatic tamper switch with alarm
- Regular temperature and battery level reports
NOTE: The smart flood/freeze sensor has two power options battery
(included) or USB (adapter and cable sold separately).
When powered by batteries, the signal repeater function is disabled to
conserve battery life. When powered by USB, the signal repeater function is
active and extends your Z-Wave network.
NOTE: The signal repeater function is determined when the product is
added to the network. If the power option is changed, the sensor must be
removed, manually reset, and added to the network under the new power option.
If a manual reset is not performed, the signal repeater function will not be
updated. See section 4 for the manual reset method.

Installation
The smart flood/freeze sensor is designed for indoor use only. Place the
sensor (typically in battery power mode) near the area of potential leaks or
water sources — sinks, commodes, dishwashers, washing machines, hot-water
tanks, etc. The sensor can be placed on the floor, cabinet base, etc. to allow
the three pins on the bottom to contact with the water leak. The contact pins
are recessed so they do not contact the surface (see figure 1). The sensor can
be safely placed onto a metal surface without activating the sensor. Mounting
tape (included) can be applied to the bottom of the sensor for secure
placement (see figure 2).
For
hard-to-reach locations, use the mounting tape to attach the sensor to the
wall. Open the sensor port to insert the detachable probe (see figure 3).
Secure with the pins pointed down using smaller mounting tape (included) (see
figure 4). The contact pins are slightly recessed so they do not contact the
surface (see figure 5).
For continuous power, connect an optional micro USB cable to the power port
and plug it into any 5V USB power supply (see figure 6). Optional USB cable
and power supply are available at ezzwave.com.
Adding your sensor to a Z-Wave network
The flood/freeze sensor can be added to the Z-Wave network automatically or
manually, from battery or micro USB power. For best results, add the sensor to
the network near the intended location (same room or area) to ensure the best
communication routes are established.
SmartStart
This sensor is SmartStart enabled. If your controller supports SmartStart
inclusion, this sensor can be added to a Z-Wave network by following the
instructions for your controller or hub and scanning the Z-Wave QR Code under
the battery door or on the package when instructed. No further action is
required, and the sensor will be added automatically within 10 minutes of
being powered up while in range of the Z-Wave network.
Manual mode
Battery power/micro USB power
- Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to add the sensor in the Z-Wave network.
- Once the controller is ready to add your device, remove the top cover of the sensor (see figure 7).
- Ensure the battery is installed with the correct polarity and the battery tab has been removed (see figure 8) or ensure micro USB is plugged into a USB port (see figure 9).
- Press and release the programming button (see figure 10). This starts the manual add process. The red LED flashes quickly as it searches for a network. After 25 seconds, the LED will stop flashing if the sensor is not added to the network. Press the programming button to manually start the add process. If it times out, the LED will stop flashing. Press and release the programming button again.
- The controller’s app will indicate if it discovers the sensor. If prompted by the controller to enter the S2 security code, refer to the QR code/security number on the back of the box or the QR code label on the product (see below).
Enter the 5-digit code.|

- Secure the top cover into place. Note: Your controller may need to be within 10ft. of the sensor to be added. Using the controller, you have the ability to activate groups, scenes, schedules, and interactive automation when the sensor detects a leak or temperature change. Functions may vary depending on the gateway or controller.
To remove the sensor from the Z-Wave network
- Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to remove the sensor from the Z-Wave network.
- Once the controller is ready to remove your sensor, press and release the programming button one time on the sensor (see figure 10).
- The red LED will blink five times to indicate it has been removed. Secure the top cover.
To return the sensor to factory defaults and remove the sensor from the Z-Wave network
- Press the programming button 10 times within six seconds (the interval between presses of the button cannot be longer than one second).
- The red LED will activate for two seconds, followed by three quick flashes to confirm the sensor has been reset. Secure the top cover into place.
Note: This should only be used if your network’s primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.
To replace battery
- Remove the top cover (see figure 7).
- Remove the old battery and replace it with the new battery. When installing the new battery, ensure proper polarity.
- Secure top cover.
Z-WAVE INTEROPERABILITY
This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other
Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers and applications. All non-
battery-operated nodes within the network will act as repeaters regardless of
vendor to increase the reliability of the network.
