Operator’s manual
Battery Blower / Vacuum

Original instructions.
This product is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the product. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children without supervision. The use of this product by young people under the age of 16 is not recommended.
Intended use:
Blower mode: The GARDENA Blower is intended to blow dirt particles or grass cuttings away from paths, driveways, courtyards, etc., to blow grass cuttings, straw or leaves to create piles, or to remove dirt particles from corners, joints, or gaps between tiles or bricks.
Vacuum mode: The GARDENA Vacuum is intended to vacuum dry material such as leaves, grass, small twigs, and bits of paper.
The product is not intended for long-term use.
DANGER! Risk of explosion! Do not use the product in enclosed rooms or to vacuum flour, sand, wood dust, etc.

Do not expose to rain.
For the charger: Remove plug from the mains immediately if the cable is damaged or cut.
Switch off: Remove the Battery before cleaning or maintenance.
Wait until the rotor blades have stopped moving after switching off.
Only use the product in vacuum mode when the tube is completely assembled.

General safety warnings
Electrical safety for the charger

DANGER!Electric shock!
Risk of injury due to electric shock.
→The product must be supplied through a residual current device (RCD) having a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mm.

Safe operating practices

1. Training
   a) Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and the correct use of the machine.
   b) Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the machine. Local regulations can restrict the age of the operator.
   c) Keep in mind, that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property

2. Preparation
   a) Obtain ear protection and safety glasses. Wear them at all times while operating the machine.
   b) While operating the machine always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the machine when barefoot or wearing open sandals.
   Avoid wearing clothing that is loose-fitting or that has hanging cords or ties.
   c) Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that can be drawn into the air inlet. Keep long hair away from the air inlets.
   d) Operate the machine in a recommended position and only on a firm, level surface.
   e) Do not operate the machine on a paved or gravel surface where ejected material could cause injury.
   f) Before using, always visually inspect to see, that the shredding means, shredding means bolts and other fasteners are secure, the housing is undamaged and that guards and screens are in place. Replace worn or damaged components in sets to preserve balance.
   Replace damaged or unreadable labels.
   g) Before use, check the supply and extension cord for signs of damage or aging. If the cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect the cord from the supply immediately. DO NOT TOUCH THE CORD BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE SUPPLY. Do not use the machine if the cord is damaged or worn.
   h) Never operate the machine while people, especially children or pets are nearby

3. Operation
   a) Before starting the machine, make certain that the feeding chamber is empty.
   b) Keep your face and body away from the feed intake opening.
   c) Do not allow hands or any other part of the body or clothing inside the feeding chamber, discharge chute, or near any moving part.
   d) Keep proper balance and footing at all times. Do not overreach. Never stand at a higher level than the base of the machine when feeding material into it.
   e) Always stand clear of the discharge zone when operating this machine.
   f) When feeding material into the machine be extremely careful that pieces of metal, rocks, bottles, cans, or other foreign objects are not included.
   g) If the cutting mechanism strikes any foreign objects or if the machine should start making any unusual noise or vibration, immediately shut off the power source and allow the machine to stop. Disconnect the machine from the supply and take the following steps before restarting and operating the machine:
   – inspect for damage;
   – replace or repair any damaged parts;
   – check for and tighten any loose parts.
   h) Do not allow processed material to build up in the discharge zone; this may prevent proper discharge and can result in kickback of material through the intake opening.
   i) If the machine becomes clogged, shut off the power source and disconnect the machine from the supply before cleaning debris.
   j) Never operate the machine with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices, for example, a debris collector in place.
   k) Keep the power source clean of debris and other accumulations to prevent damage to the power source or possible fire.
   l) Do not transport this machine while the power source is running.
   m) Stop the machine, and remove the plug from the socket.
   Make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop
   – whenever you leave the machine,
   – before clearing blockages or unclogging the chute,
   – before checking, cleaning, or working on the machine.
   n) Do not tilt the machine while the power source is running.

4. Maintenance and storage
   a) When the machine is stopped for servicing, inspection, or storage, or to change an accessory, shut off the power source, disconnect the machine from the supply and make sure that all moving parts come to a complete stop. Allow the machine to cool before making any inspections, adjustments, etc. Maintain the machine with care and keep it clean.
   b) Store the machine in a dry place out of the reach of children.
   c) Always allow the machine to cool before storing.
   d) When servicing the shredding means be aware that, even though the power source is switched off due to the interlock feature of the guard, the shredding means can still be moved.
   e) Replace worn or damaged parts for safety. Use only genuine replacement parts and accessories.
   f) Never attempt to override the interlocked feature of the guard.

5. Additional safety instructions for units with bagging attachments
   Switch off the machine before attaching or removing the bag.

Additional safety warnings
Battery safety

DANGER! Fire risk!
The battery to be charged must be placed on a non-flammable, heat-resistant, and non-conductive surface while charging. Keep corrosive, flammable, and easily combustible objects clear of the battery charger and the battery.

Do not cover the battery charger and the battery while charging.
Disconnect the battery charger immediately in the event of smoke formation or fire.
Only use the original GARDENA Charger to charge the battery. The use of other battery chargers may damage the batteries irreparably and even cause a fire.
If you notice fire: Extinguish the flames with oxygen-reducing materials.

DANGER! Risk of explosion!
Protect batteries from heat and fire. Do not leave on radiators or be exposed to strong sunshine for long periods.
Do not operate in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
Batteries may create sparks that could ignite dust or fumes.

Check your replacement battery before each use. Visually check the battery before each use. A non-functioning battery must be disposed of correctly. Do not send by post. For further details, please contact your local disposal companies.
For risks of injury do not use the battery as a power source for other products. Only use the battery for the GARDENA product intended.
Only charge the battery at ambient temperatures of between 0 °C and 40 °C. Allow the battery to cool down after long periods of use.
Check the charging cable regularly for signs of damage or aging (brittleness). Only use it in perfect condition.
Do not stow the battery above 45 °C or in direct sunlight.
Ideally, the battery should be stored below 25 °C so that self-discharge is low.
Do not expose the battery to rain or wet conditions.
Water entering a battery will increase the risk of electric shock.
Keep the battery in order (clean) especially air vents.
If usage of the battery is not planned for a certain time (winter period) reload the battery to avoid a deep discharge.
Do not store while still attached to a tool, this prevents misuse and accidents.
Do not store the battery in places where static electricity is present.
The supply terminals are not short-circuited.

Electrical safety
DANGER! Cardiac arrest!
This product makes an electromagnetic field while it operates. This field may under some conditions interfere with active or passive medical implants. To decrease the risk of conditions that can possibly injure or kill, we recommend persons with medical implants speak with their physician and the medical implant manufacturer before they operate the product.
Only use the battery product between – 10 and 40 °C.

Personal safety

DANGER! Risk of suffocation!
Small parts can be easily swallowed. There is also a risk that the polybag can suffocate toddlers. Keep toddlers away when you assemble the product.
Operate the product only in daylight or in good artificial light.
Walk, do not run.
Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to be sure the product is in safe working condition.
Avoid using the product in bad weather conditions especially when there is a risk of lightning.
Check the debris collector frequently for wear or deterioration.
Warning: Do not use the product without the tubes or collecting bag properly attached to avoid flying debris and/or impeller contact which can cause serious injury.
Always wear gloves and use eye protection to prevent rocks or debris from being blown or ricocheting into the eyes and face which can result in blindness or serious injury.
Be careful during the adjustment of the product to prevent entrapment of the fingers between moving and fixed parts of the product, while assembling the blower parts, or while closing the protection grid.
Do not attempt to use your product without the fully assembled debris bag fitted.
Do not use the product if any part is damaged or broken or if any of the screws are loose. Has it been repaired by an authorized repairer?
Do not use the blower near leaf or brush fires, fireplaces, barbecue pits, ashtrays, etc. Proper use of the blower will help avoid spreading fire.
Never place objects inside the blower tubes; always direct the blowing debris away from people, animals, glass, and solid objects such as trees, automobiles, walls, etc.
The force of air can cause rocks, dirt, or sticks to be thrown or to ricochet which can hurt people or animals, break glass, or cause other damage.
Never use for spreading chemicals, fertilizers, or any other substances. This will prevent the spreading of toxic materials.
To prevent dust irritation, the use of a dust mask is recommended.
If the product doesn’t stop due to a malfunction immediately disconnect the battery and contact the GARDENA Service.
Do not walk backward whilst operating with your product, you could trip. Risk of stumbling: Pay attention to the earthing strap.
Inspect the area before using the product. Hard objects can be thrown through the collecting bag or the housing and become dangerous missiles that can cause serious injury to the operator or others.
Warning! When wearing hearing protection, and due to the noise produced by the product, the operator may not notice persons approaching.
This product is intended for outdoor use only.
Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Do not disassemble the product further than the delivery status.

ASSEMBLY

DANGER! Risk of injury! Cut injury when the rotor blades turn or the product starts accidentally.
Remove the battery and wait for the rotor blades to stop before you assemble the product.
Assembling for blower mode:
DANGER! Cut injury! v Assemble the blower tube and the intake cover completely before you use the product in blower mode.

To assemble the blower tube:
Note: When the blower tube is not assembled correctly, a safety switch will prevent the blower from starting.

1. Push the blower tube 1 onto the blower outlet 2 until the
   interlock 3 audibly engages.

2. Optional for blowing in corners you can put the nozzle 4 on the blower tube 1 until it audibly engages.
   To remove blower tube 1 push the interlock 3 and remove the blower tube 1

To assemble the intake cover:
Note: When the intake cover is not assembled correctly, a safety switch will prevent the blower from starting. v Close the intake cover 5 on the blower inlet 6 until the interlock audibly engages. To open the intake cover 5 push the interlock 7 and open the intake cover 5

Assembling for vacuum mode:

DANGER! Cut injury!
→Assemble the vacuum tube and the collection bag
completely before you use the product in a vacuum mode.
To assemble the vacuum tube:
DANGER! Cut injury!→Assemble both parts of the vacuum tube before you start the product.

Note: When the vacuum tube is not assembled correctly to the vacuum, a safety switch will prevent the vacuum from starting.
1. Connect both parts (8a /8b ) of the vacuum tube 8 until the connection audibly engages.
2. Tighten the screw 9.
3. Push the vacuum tube
8 into the vacuum inlet
6 until the interlock
7 audibly engages. To remove the  vacuum tube
8 push the interlock 7 and remove the vacuum tube 8.

To assemble the collection bag:
Note: When the collection bag is not assembled correctly, a safety switch will prevent the vacuum from starting.

1. Push the collection bag 0 onto the vacuum outlet 2 until the interlock q audibly engages.
2.  Connect the collection bag strap w with the retainer e.
3.  Connect the shoulder strap r with the retainer t.
4.  Make sure that the earthing strap z is in touch with the ground.
5.  Make sure that collection bag 0 is completely closed. To remove collection bag 0 push the interlock q and remove the collection bag 0

OPERATION

To charge the battery:

DANGER! Risk of injury!
Cut injury when the rotor blades turn or the product starts accidentally.
→Remove the battery and wait for the rotor blades to stop before you adjust or transport the product.
CAUTION!
Overvoltage damages the battery and the battery charger.
→Make sure that you use the correct mains voltage.
For the GARDENA Battery Blower/Vacuum Art. 9338-55, there is no battery in the scope of delivery.
Before you use the battery the first time, the battery must be completely charged.
The lithium-ion battery can be charged in any state of charge and the charging process can be disconnected at any time without damaging the battery (no memory effect).

1. Push both locking buttons ßA and remove the battery ßB from the battery holder ßD.
2. Connect the main cable ßM to the charger ßC.
3. Connect the mains cable ßM to a 230 V mains socket.
4. Connect the battery charger cable ßE to the battery ßB.

When the charging control lamp ßLc at the charger flashes green once per second the battery is being charged.
When the charging control lamp ßLc at the charger illuminates green the battery is completely charged
(charging time, see 7. TECHNICAL DATA)
Examine the charge status regularly while you charge.
6. When the battery ßB is completely charged, disconnect the
battery ßB from the charger ßC.
7. Disconnect the charger C from the mains

→Push the button ßb on the battery.

Control panel:

On/Off button:
→ Push the On/Off button ßs on the control panel.
When the blower/vacuum is switched on, the On-LED ßLs illuminates.
The blower/vacuum automatically switches off after 1 minute.
Power wheel:
→ Scroll the power wheel ße on the control panel to the required position.
When the Eco mode is activated (power wheel scrolled downwards), the LED ßLe illuminates.
The Eco mode reduces the engine speed for a maximum battery lifetime.
When the Normal mode is activated (power wheel scrolled upwards), the LED ßLe is off.
In Boost mode , the power wheel v must be held upwards (the power wheel automatically returns to the Normal mode when released).
The Boost mode increases the engine speed for maximum power.

Work positions:

Blower mode:
You can adjust the airflow infinitely.
The performance is divided into the Eco mode, Normal mode and
the Boost mode.
The Eco mode is ideal for blowing light foliage.
The Normal mode is ideal for normal foliage.
In Boost mode, you get full performance for large foliage.
Move at work away from solid objects such as curb stone edge/walks, large stones, vehicles, and fences.
Clean corners by starting in corners and moving outward. This will prevent an accumulation of debris that could fly into your face. Be careful when you work near plants. The force of the airflow could damage tender plants.

Vacuum mode:
For best results during vacuum mode, operate the vacuum by max. power (Boost mode).
Move slowly back and forth over the material as you vacuum.
Avoid moving the vacuum tube into a pile of debris as this can close the vacuum tube.
For best results, keep the vacuum tube approx, 3 cm above the ground

To start the blower/vacuum :

To start:

1. Put the battery ßB into the battery holder ßD until it audibly engages.
2. Push the On/Off button m on the control panel N until the On-LED ∂ illuminates green.
3. Hold the additional handle q with one hand.
4. Hold the main handle w with the other hand and scroll the power wheel ße upwards. The blower/vacuum starts.

To stop:

1.  Scroll the power wheel v downwards.
   The blower/vacuum stops.

2. Push the On/Off buttons on the control panel P until the On-LED ßLs is off.

3. Push both locking buttons A and remove battery B from the battery holder D .

To empty the collection bag:
DANGER! Risk of injury! Sharp debris can cause injury.
→ Do not place your hands in the collection bag when you empty it.

1. Remove the collection bag (see 2. ASSEMBLY “To assemble the collection bag”).
2. Empty the collection bag completely (Turn the collection bag inside out).
3. Assemble the collection bag (see 2. ASSEMBLY “To assemble the collection bag”).

MAINTENANCE

To clean the Blower / Vacuum:
DANGER! Risk of injury!
Cut injury when the rotor blades turn or the product starts accidentally.
→ Remove the battery and wait for the rotor blades to stop before you maintain the product.
DANGER! Risk of injury!
Risk of injury and risk of damage to the product.
→ Do not clean the product with water or with a water jet (in particular high- pressure water jet).
→  Do not clean with chemicals including petrol or solvents. Some can destroy critical plastic parts.

To clean the battery and the battery charger: The airflow slots must always be clean.

1.  Clean the airflow slots z with a soft brush (do not use a screwdriver).
2. Remove the blower tube/vacuum tube and clean it.
3. Remove the collection bag and empty it completely. Turn the collection bag inside out and clean it with a water hose. Let the collection bag dry completely.
4.  Open the intake cover 5 and remove any grass and dirt from the intake opening and intake cover 5.
5. Regularly check the degree of contamination of the fan impeller/space of the fan impeller and clean it if necessary with a dull, long object.

Make sure that the surface and the contacts of the battery and the battery charger always are clean and dry before you connect the battery charger.
Do not use running water.
→ Clean the contacts and the plastic parts with a soft and dry cloth.

STORAGE

To put into storage: The product must be stored away from children.

1. Remove the battery.
2. Charge the battery.
3. Clean the blower/vacuum, the battery, and the battery charger (see 4. MAINTENANCE).
4. Store the blower/vacuum, the battery, and the battery charger in a dry, enclosed, and frost-free place.

Disposal: (in accordance with RL2012/19/EC)
The product must not be disposed of to normal household waste. It must be disposed of in line with local environmental regulations.
Disposal of the battery: The GARDENA battery contains lithium-ion cells that should not be disposed of with normal household waste at the end of its life.
IMPORTANT!
Dispose of the batteries through or via your municipal recycling collection center.

1. Discharge the lithium-ion cells completely (contact the GARDENA Service).
2. Protect the contacts on the lithium-ion cells against short circuits.
3. Dispose of the lithium-ion cells properly.

TROUBLESHOOTING

DANGER! Risk of injury!
Cut injury when the rotor blades turn or the product starts accidentally.
→ Remove the battery and wait for the rotor blades to stop before you troubleshoot the product.

Warranty:
In the event of a warranty claim, no charge is levied to you for the services provided.
GARDENA Manufacturing GmbH offers a two-year warranty (effective as of the date of purchase) for this product. This warranty includes all significant defects of the product that can be proved to be material or manufacturing faults. The warranty will be fulfilled by the supply of a working replacement product provided that the following conditions are met:

• The product was used for its intended purpose as per the recommendations in the operating instructions.
• Neither the purchaser nor a third party has attempted to repair the product.
  This manufacturer’s warranty does not affect warranty entitlements against the dealer/retailer.

For troubleshooting, please contact our Service department (contact details overleaf). It is not permitted to send a product to us without prior agreement.
Consumables:
The blower tube and vacuum tube are consumables and are not included in the warranty.
Product liability
In accordance with the German Product Liability Act, we hereby expressly declare that we accept no liability for damage incurred from our products where said products have not been properly repaired by a GARDENA-approved service partner or where original GARDENA parts or parts authorized by GARDENA were not used.
