Sunbeam’s Safety Precautions
Sunbeam is very safety conscious when designing and manufacturing consumer products, but it is essential that the product user also exercise care when using an electrical appliance. Listed below are precautions which are essential for the safe use of an electrical appliance:
- Read carefully and save all the instructionsprovided with an appliance.
- Always turn the power off at the power outletbefore you insert or remove a plug. Remove by grasping the plug – do not pull on the cord.
- Turn the power off and remove the plugwhen the appliance is not in use and before cleaning.
- Do not use your appliance with an extensioncord unless this cord has been checked and tested by a qualified technician or service person.
- Always use your appliance from a poweroutlet of the voltage (A.C. only) marked on the appliance.
- Close supervision is necessary when yourappliance is being used by children or infirm persons.
- Never leave an appliance unattended while inuse.
- Do not use an appliance for any purpose otherthan its intended use.
- Do not place an appliance on or near a hot gasflame, electric element or on a heated oven.Do not place on top of any other appliance.
- Do not let the power cord of an appliance hangover the edge of a table or bench top or touchany hot surface.
- Do not operate any electrical appliance witha damaged cord or after the appliance has been damaged in any manner. If damage is suspected, contact Sunbeam’s customer service team.
- For additional protection, Sunbeamrecommend the use of a residual current device (RCD) with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA in the electrical circuit supplying power to your appliances.
- Do not immerse the appliance in water or anyother liquid unless recommended.
- Appliances are not intended to be operated bymeans of an external timer or separate remote control system.
- If the appliance is slept on with the controlsset to a higher temperature the user may suffer skin burns or heat stroke.
- Do not place heavy items on top of theappliance when it is turned on.
- It is recommended that a qualified engineeror registered person inspect the heated throw once it passes warranty period and every 2 years thereafter.
Safety Precautions for your Electric Throw
- Do not switch the throw rug on if moist or wet.
- Do not use pins, needles, safety pins or othersharp items on your electric throw.
- Examine periodically for signs of wear or damageon the throw rug cords. If there are such signs, orthe throw rug has been misused, return it to anauthorised service agent for inspection.
- Only use your electric throw with the controlssupplied or marked equivalent.
- Not to be used by very young children (0-3years), infirm persons, or persons insensitive toheat.
- The appliance is not to be used by young childrenover the age of three unless the controls havebeen pre-set by a parent or guardian, or unlessthe child has been adequately instructed on howto operate the controls safely.
- Ensure that the electric throw is switched off andunplugged after use.
- This electric throw is not intended for use inhospitals.
- If appliance is used on an adjustable bed, checkthat the throw rug and cord do not becometrapped or rucked, for example in hinges.
- When storing the appliance allow it to cool downbefore folding.
- Do not crease the appliance by placing items ontop of it during storage.
- Should your appliance suffer a thermal or fuselink rupture (normally identified when thethrow rug stops heating) please return it to themanufacturer or agent for repair or replacement.
- This appliance must not be used by personsinsensitive to heat and other very vulnerablepersons who are unable to react to overheating.
- Children under the age of three are not to usethis appliance due their inability to react tooverheating.
- Use as an overblanket only.
- Heat settings 1-3 are for continuous or all nightuse. If this appliance is slept on with the controlsset to a higher temperature, the user may sufferskin burns or heat stroke
Sunbeam’s SleepPerfect® Technology
Temperature sensitive, fast-heating elements
All Sunbeam Feel Perfect electric throws feature our exclusive SleepPerfect® technology. This technology uses a unique heating element that adjusts the heat level of your electric throw to maintain your selected setting. A built- in microprocessor continually senses changes in room and body temperature and adjusts the power input accordingly, to provide a constant level of comfort. The unique flexible heating element allows the fabric to drape around you, enabling the heated throw to be used on the lounge or your favourite arm chair. This unique element also heats up to reach your selected temperature in just 10 minutes, so there’s no need for hours of preheating.
Using your heated throw
Your heated throw can be used on the lounge or in your favourite chair,
providing cosy comfort wherever you need it. It can even be used on futons,
adjustable beds and waterbeds.
Connecting the control
Insert the control connector into the socket, making sure it is firmly clicked
into position. Plug the control into a 230-240V power outlet and turn the
power on.
Note: Ensure that the control is connected to the heated throw before
inserting the plug into the power outlet. Connecting the power before
attaching the control to the throw rug will replicate a power interruption and
activate the safety system, preventing the throw from heating.
Caution: Keep the control away from heating sources such as heaters and
lamps. Do not cover the control.
Press the Power button to turn the blanket on. Your heated throw is supplied with a 6 heat control. Press the temperature button to toggle through each heat setting.
- 1-3 Continuous or all night use
- 4-5 Medium Pre-heat
- 6 Fast Pre-heat
Use Pre-heat settings to preheat the throw only. Do not use your heated throw
on these settings more than 30 minutes.
Note: When pressing the power button, the heated throw will automatically
turn to Setting 6 (Fast Pre-heat).
Safety Auto off
Your electric throw features a safety auto off with 1, 3 or 9 hours automatic
stop, so you can choose the right warmth for you. Simply press the Power
button to reactivate.
Troubleshooting
Should your heated throw fail to heat
- Check that the control is properlyconnected to the heated throw and clickedsecurely into position. If you find thecontrol connector plug is not properlyfitted to the heated throw, switch thepower off at the power outlet, securelyattach the control connector plug to theheated throw, and then switch the powerback on.
- Check that the power cord is connected tothe power outlet and the power is switchedon
Care and cleaning
All Feel Perfect Heated Throws electric blankets feature waterproof heating
elements, making them fully immersible and safe to wash by hand or machine.
Before cleaning your electric blanket, ensure that the controls are unplugged
from the blanket.
Spot cleaning
Sponge the affected area using a neutral wool detergent or mild soap flakes
mixed with lukewarm water. Sponge twice with clean water to remove detergent.
Remove excess water by compressing the wet area between two towels.
Hand washing
Wash the blanket in lukewarm water with a neutral wool detergent or mild soap
flakes. Soak for five minutes, then gently squeeze the soapy water through the
fabric. Rinse thoroughly in clean, lukewarm water then drain excess water from
the blanket. Do not wring.
Machine washing
Take your electric blanket to a commercial laundry or wash in a domestic
washing machine (svpermitting). Wash on WOOL or DELICATES cycle with a neutral
wool detergent or mild soap flakes, below 40°C. Do not use high speed or extra
spin cycles.
Line drying
Drape the blanket across several lines of your clothesline, and try to avoid
direct heat. Do not use pegs on the wired areas. Do not dry with a hairdryer
or heater. Ensure that the blanket and control sockets are completely dry
before using again.
Machine drying
Tumble dry your blanket on LOW setting for 15 minutes MAXIMUM. Smooth the
blanket by gently pulling any creases out of the fabric. Line dry to ensure
the blanket and control sockets are completely dry before use. Do not dry with
a hairdryer or heater.
Storing your blanket
Your blanket can remain on the bed all year round as a comfortable
underblanket. Simply remove the controls and store until winter. If you wish
to remove the blanket from your bed when not in use, roll or fold it loosely
and store in a blanket bag or the bag it was supplied in. Avoid pressing sharp
creases into the blanket. Do not place heavy items on top of your electric
blanket when storing. When storing the electric blanket, allow it to cool down
before folding.
