Product Usage Instructions

Section 1 – Replacing Service Parts and Software Upgrade
After replacing the B** board, Panel, or T-Con, upgrade the software using a USB memory. Make sure to follow these steps:

1. Disconnect all cables before upgrading the software.
2. Confirm NVM Version, Model Name, Software version, and Serial Number from the Service menu after upgrading.
3. Download the most recent version of the software for upgrade.

USB Memory Format:
No special restriction on USB memory, but format it in FAT32. Use Sony USB media with a capacity of more than 2GB for best results.

USB Update File Preparation:

1. Get a dtvota file for upgrade.
2. Extract the dtvota file.
3. Confirm the file name.
4. Copy the file under the root directory of the USB device.

Section 2 – Service Procedure for Board Replacement
Follow the specific service procedure for board replacement after AC Plug- in and waiting for 30 seconds. Ensure to check Panel and Smart Core conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions:

• Q: What should I do if the USB memory is not recognized?
  A: Ensure the USB memory is formatted in FAT32 and try using a Sony USB media with a capacity greater than 2GB.

• Q: How do I know if the software update was successful?
  A: After upgrading, confirm the NVM Version, Model Name, Software version, and Serial Number from the Service menu to ensure a successful update

SECTION 1 NOTES

Replacing Service Parts for GN3TR Series

1.  After replacing the B** board, Panel, or T-Con you need to upgrade Software by using the USB memory. (Upgrade Software even if replacing the Panel only.)

2. Before upgrading Software, be sure to disconnect all cables.

3. After upgrading the version, you need to confirm the NVM Version, Model Name, Software version and Serial Number from the Service menu.
   (Incorrect settings affect the set’s capabilities.)

4. When upgrading Software, be sure to download the most recent version.(If the version of Software already on the repair board is newer than the version of Software for upgrade, Software is not upgraded.)
   Remark : List of (B** Board); please refer to each segment Service Manual for details.

USB Memory Format.

1. There is no special restriction on USB memory. If you connect the USB memory to the computer and it is recognized , you can use it.
2. The USB memory should be formatted in FAT32.

USB Update file Preparation [Making procedure]

1. Get a dtvota file for upgrade.

2. Extract dtvota file. (e.g. sonydtvota_**_.zip)
   may differ depend on the destination.

3. Confirm file name. (e.g. sonydtv********_****.pkg)

4. Copy the file under root directory of USB device.
   Note: The upgrade will not be performed if name of the file is modified.

Note: Recommend to use USB Port 2 or 3 for software update.

Service Procedure for B-Board Replacement

Note1:

• Remove all signal connection. (antenna, external input, ether cable, etc)
• Insert the USB memory. SMART CORE LED will change to white blinking indicate the software update is in progress.
•  After complete upgrade, TV will reboot in 2 condition below depending on destination:
• [BRA & COL] STBY status. Press “Power” key to turn on TV
• [Other destination] TV turns on.
• Disconnect the USB memory.

Note2:

• For a success of software update, it will take 20~30 min/time.
• Do not turn off TV while updating software.
• If older software package version is used, software cannot be update. TV will reboot and turn on again.

Service Procedure for T-con Replacement

Note1:

• Remove all signal connection. (antenna, external input, ether cable, etc)
• Insert the USB memory. SMART CORE LED will change to white blinking indicate the software update is in progress.
• After complete upgrade, TV will reboot in 2 condition below depending on destination:

Appendix

Condition 2: If RCD version is updated or recipe condition data is changed, screen below appears. Then TV will reboot when the progress bar reaches 100%, and the software upgrade will run as usual.
