Operating instructions

Tow Rope Passenger Car

Suitable for towing vehicles with a max. gross weight of 3500 kg.

Please note:
Before towing, always release the steering lock, and switch on the warning lights of both vehicles. If possible, only tow to the nearest service station or repair shop — on motorways, towing is only permitted to the next exit.

Before use:

  • Read the instruction manual completely, and keep safe it for future reference.
  • After several towing operations, tow ropes can show signs of material fatigue. For your own safety, never use a tow rope that has clear visible signs of wear or with bent/damaged hooks.
  • Read your vehicle‘s manual or ask in a repair shop to inform yourself whether the towing eyes on your vehicle are suitable for use with a tow rope.
  • Check the tow rope as well as the attachment fittings before every use.
  • Never tow at right angles from the starting point.
  • Do not use the rope in case of the following signs of damage:
    • excessive abrasion or chafing
    • cuts
    • torn fibres
    • softened or brittle fibres
    • melting
    • damaged or bent attachment fittings
  • Never use the tow rope for climbing or to support the weight of persons.
  • Never overload the tow rope.

During use:

  • Hook the attachment fittings into the towing eyes provided on the vehicles. Make sure that the safety catch on the hook has engaged. The hooks must be aligned in the towing direction.
  • Never start the towing operation with a jerk. This causes high dynamic loads that can damage the tow rope.
  • The tow rope is suitable for vehicles fitted with standard towing eyes that are roughly at the same height from the ground.
  • The component parts of the vehicles to which the tow rope is attached, must be sufficiently strong to withstand the towing forces.
  • During the towing operation, all corresponding road traffic regulations must be observed.
  • While towing, the tow rope must be kept in a straight line with the vehicles longitudinal axes.
  • Therefore, and depending on the arrangement of the vehicles‘ towing eyes, it might be necessary to travel with an offset.
  • Vision between both vehicles must be clear, so that the driver of the towed vehicle can see the rear and brake lights of the towing vehicle.
  • In addition, the tow rope must be marked with a red signal flag.
  • Towing a vehicle with defective brakes is not permitted.
  • For safety reasons, and even under favourable traffic conditions, a towing speed of more than 50 km/h is not permitted.
  • All starting and stopping operations must be carried out with due caution.

Storage & care:

  • Store in a dry and well ventilated place.
  • Protect from UV radiation, heat, acids, lyes, oils, and smoke fumes.
  • Only use clear water for cleaning, without any additives or chemicals.
  • Grease the hooks after every use.
