  • Dispose of used batteries using local battery recycling
  • We recommend you connect the timer via the USB cable to mains power, which means that the batteries will act as a backup if there is a mains power failure
  • The battery power supply is only suitable for timed watering (set up via the app) and manual watering (using the button on the WXi Plantsitter™), if you intend to only use battery power then there is no remote control to the pump
  • USB cable must be connected to a power source when pairing to Wi‑Fi or making any settings on the Holman Home app

Plug In the USB Cable

  • Wi-Fi pairing, and access, is not possible with battery power only. For pairing, and then to maintain app connection, the USB must be plugged into the Plantsitter™
  • Battery power can support manual watering only (without app connection)
  • When both the USB cable and batteries are in use together the Plantsitter™ will use the USB connection as the primary power supply
  • When the USB is removed, battery powered mode will be activated – there is no Wi-Fi available without the USB cable connection. Removing the connection also means that there are no notifications or remote-control options

Using mains power via the USB cable and batteries means:

  • You can connect remotely to the timer via the Holman Home app to change the settings using Wi-Fi at any time
  • If notifications are setup, you can receive alerts about your water source being empty and batteries being low
  • You can also use app Automations to schedule your timer to water at a specific time and day/s of the week (rather than use the interval)
  • As Automation are initiated by the cloud, this requires stable Wi-Fi and stable power. Information on setting up Automations can be found at holmanindustries.com.au/automations

Considerations

The WXi Plantsitter™ is a small pump because of this, placement of the WXi Plantsitter™ is important

The Plantsitter cannot:

  1. Be left below the water source–this may cause a siphoning effect and lead to leaking and over-wateringHOLMAN-WX2001-Tap-Timer-Wi-Fi-Watering-fig \(21\)
  2. Be more than 2.5m from plants horizontally (on ground level)
  3. Additionally, the plants should not be more than 2.5m above the WXi Plantsitter™ (due to pump height abilities)HOLMAN-WX2001-Tap-Timer-Wi-Fi-Watering-fig \(22\)
  4. Ideally the Plantsitter and your water source will be on the same level (use your included clip to hang from a bucket)HOLMAN-WX2001-Tap-Timer-Wi-Fi-Watering-fig \(23\)

Setting Up the Watering System

  1. Measure and then cut the hose in lengths which will allow you to run a water line from the WXi Plantsitter™ to your water source, and then\ from the WXi Plantsitter™ to your plants
  2. Dip the hose ends into hot water (a) for 10-20 seconds to allow the hose to soften–this will ensure a secure connection to the barbed fittings
  3. Connect the hose to the inlet and outlet (b) of the WXi Plantsitter™
  4. Connect the check valve (c) close to the outlet of the WXi Plantsitter™ – this may reduce the water pressure but will protect the WXi Plantsitter™
  5. Ensure you install the check valve correctly paying attention to the direction (d) of the valve
  6. Insert the filter (e) onto the end of hose connected to the inlet. This hose is now ready to be placed into the water source
  7. Use straight barbs (f) to continue straight ahead
  8. Use T barb fittings (g) to create branches to plants
  9. Use a 4 way connector (h) to split into multiple directions.
  10. Watering below the surface can assist to prevent insects which are attracted to moist soil, the WXi Plantsitter™ uses micro drip emitters (i) to do this
  11. Loosen the soil and then insert the drip at least 6cm deep (the emitter will be ⅔ of the way in). This will help to water the plant roots
  12. Install the end cap (j) at the end of the watering line. We recommend to run water into the line to push out any air bubbles – then install the end cap into the filled line
  • After setting up, use the manual watering function to activate the pump and test the system. Check all connection points for leaking. If there are any leaks, take time to secure the hose to the barbs, stopping any leaky areas. Once the system tests without leaking, it is ready to look after your plants
