TECH NOTE: INSTALLATION
742-600 WINDOW LIFT MOTOR
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
- Always wear proper safety equipment when performing repairs.
- Ensure this part fits your exact vehicle year, make, model and configuration. You can verify at your point of purchase using the part number on the box, or using the part number above at DormanProducts.com.
- Reference the appropriate service manual for your vehicle. If you do not have a service manual, and do not have the training or experience to perform the necessary procedures correctly, seek the services of a qualified technician.
This window lift motor is intended to fit multiple applications. Three direct-
fit plugs are included that will interface with all vehicles covered by this
motor. Use the appropriate plug that fits your specific vehicle.
The mounting holes on this window lift motor come unthreaded and are designed
to be used with selftapping hardware. On some applications, it will be
necessary to use an M6 bolt to self-tap the motor.
Toyota Motor Application Note
If one or more threaded mounting holes on the motor that you are replacing are
in a different position on the new motor, you will need to move the threaded
insert to the correct location. Follow instructions below.
Removal
STEP 1: From the back side of the motor (square gear facing away from
you), bend the two metal tabs outward that secure the backing plate to the
motor. Remove the metal backing plate. This will give you the clearance
necessary to move the insert.
STEP 2: From the front side of the motor, thread an M6 bolt partially
into the insert. Use a hammer to tap the metal insert out of the plastic
retainer. Be careful not to break the plastic ear off of the motor.
STEP 3: To install the insert, unscrew the bolt from the insert and
thread it back into the insert from the other direction. Tap the insert into
the correct hole. Make sure to support the plastic ear that it does not break.
STEP 4: Replace the metal backing plate, making sure to bend the metal
tabs firmly into position with a hammer and a punch.
