grip B in a clockwise direction until jaws grip the drill/driver bit. With
your free hand hold grip A firmly and rotate grip B in a clockwise direction
until it tightens onto the drill /driver bit. Do not use unnecessary force to
tighten.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
TURNING THE IMPACT DRILL ON AND OFF
This machine is fitted with a continuous operation button. To start the
machine squeeze the On/Off trigger, Fig 5.
When the machine starts press the continuous operation button located on the
side of the handle, Fig 6, and release the On/Off trigger. The machine will
now run continuously without the need to maintain pressure on the On/Off
trigger. To stop the machine briefly squeeze and then release the On/Off
trigger.
Warning! Before connecting the impact drill to a power supply, make sure it is not in the ‘locked-on’ position. Failure to do so could result in accidental starting of the drill resulting in possible serious injury.
VARIABLE SPEED CONTROL
Light pressure on the On/Off trigger results in low speed, allowing drilling
to begin in a smooth, controlled manner. Further pressure on the switch
results in an increase in speed.
The desired speed can be pre-selected with the thumb wheel, Fig 7 (also
possible during operation). The rotational speed to be used depends upon the
material being drilled.
CHANGING THE ROTATION
- The direction of the chuck is controlled by a switch located above the On/Off trigger.
- Note : The design of the switch will not permit changing the direction of rotation while the drill is running. Release the On/Off trigger and allow the drill to stop before changing its direction.
- For forward rotation move the lever to the position marked with a forward arrow, Fig 8.
- For reverse rotation move the lever to the position marked with a backward arrow, Fig 9.
- Note: The impact drill will not run unless the lever is pushed fully to the left or right.
- Warning! The impact drill is not designed for reverse hammering. Failure to heed this warning may result in damage to the drill.
ADJUSTING THE DRILL MODE
Locate the selector switch on the top of the drill housing, Fig 10. Simply
push the selector switch to the left-hand side of the drill (with the chuck
facing forward) to select hammer drilling mode. To select normal drilling mode
push the selector switch to the right-hand side of the drill (with the chuck
facing forward). Tungsten carbide drill bits are required for drilling
concrete, stone, and masonry. The best drilling progress is achieved using
tungsten carbide-tipped drill bits. Only High-Speed Steel (HSS) drill bits in
good condition should be used for drilling metal or wood. Spade bits and brad
point bits are only used for drilling wood etc.
Caution: Do not operate the selection dial until the tool comes to a
complete stop. Shifting during the rotation of the chuck can cause damage to
the tool.
Drill-only action: For drilling in woods, metals, plastics, or other
nonconcrete materials.
Drill with hammer action: For drilling in concrete, asphalt, tile or other similar hard materials.
TIP FOR DRILLING WOOD
- For maximum performance, use high-speed steel bits for wood drilling.
- Select normal drilling mode.
- Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from slipping off the starting point. Increase the speed as the drill bit bites into the material.
- When drilling through holes, place a block of wood behind the workpiece to prevent ragged or splintered edges on the back side of the hole.
TIP FOR DRILLING METAL
- For maximum performance, use high-speed steel bits for metal or steel drilling.
- Select normal drilling mode.
- Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from slipping off the starting point.
- Maintain a speed and pressure that allows cutting without overheating the bit. Applying too much pressure will:
- Overheat the drill;
- Wear the bearings;
- Bend or burn bits; and
- Produce off-center or irregular-shaped holes.
TIP FOR DRILLING MASONRY
- For maximum performance, use carbide-tipped masonry impact bits or designated hammer drill bits when drilling holes in brick, tile, concrete, etc.
- Slide adjustment button on hammer drill left for hammer mode.
- Apply light pressure and medium speed for best results in brick.
- Apply additional pressure for hard materials such as concrete.
- When drilling holes in the tile, practice on a scrap piece to determine the best speed and pressure. Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from slipping off the starting point.
WORKPIECE CLAMPING
To prevent the drill bit from spinning the workpiece if the drill bit becomes
jammed in the hole being drilled, it is recommended that a drill vice or other
suitable clamp is used to secure the workpiece during the drilling operation.
MAINTENANCE
This power tool normally requires no maintenance; from time to time the
ventilation slots on the motor casing should be cleaned out. If the unit

the fiberglass chips and grindings are highly abrasive to bearings, brushes,
commutators, etc. Consequently, we do not recommend using this tool for
extended work on these types of materials. However, if you do work with any of
these materials, it is extremely important to clean the tool using compressed
air.
LUBRICATION
All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a sufficient amount of
high-grade lubricant for the life of the unit under normal operating
conditions. Therefore, no further lubrication is required.
