When using the equipment, a few safety pre-cautions must be observed to avoid injuries and damage. Please read the complete operating instructions and safety regulations with due care. Please check that the article is complete as specifi ed in the scope of delivery. If parts are missing, please contact our service center or the sales outlet where you made your purchase at the latest within 5 working days after purchasing the product and upon presentation of a valid bill of purchase. Also, refer to the warranty table in the service information at the end of the operating instructions.

  • Open the packaging and take out the equip-ment with care.
  • Remove the packaging material and any packaging and/or transportation braces (if available).
  • Check to see if all items are supplied.
  • Inspect the equipment and accessories for transport damage.
  • If possible, please keep the packaging until the end of the guarantee period.

3. Proper use

The belt sander/grinder is designed for sanding/grinding wood, iron, plastic and similar materials using the appropriate sanding/grinding belt.
The equipment is to be used only for its prescri-bed purpose. Any other use is deemed to be a case of misuse. The user / operator and not the manufacturer will be liable for any damage or inju-ries of any kind caused as a result of this.

Please note that our equipment has not been de-signed for use in commercial, trade or industrial applications. Our warranty will be voided if the machine is used in commercial, trade or industrial businesses or for equivalent purposes.

All stages of the operating cycle must be considered (for example, times in which the electric tools are switched off and times in which the tool is switched on but operates without load).

Caution!

Residual risks
Even if you use this electric power tool in accordance with instructions, certain residual risks cannot be rules out. The following hazards may arise in connection with the equipment’s construction and layout:

1. Lung damage if no suitable protective dust mask is used.
2. Damage to hearing if no suitable ear protection is used.
3. Health damage caused by hand-arm vibrations if the equipment is used over a prolonged period or is not properly guided and maintained.

5. Before starting the equipment

Warning!
Always pull the power plug before making adjustments to the equipment.

5.1 Dust extraction

5.1.1 Installing the dust extractor adapter (Figure 2/Item 8)

Push the dust extractor adapter (8) onto the connection for dust extraction (6).

You can then connect a suitable dust extractor (a) to the dust extractor adapter (8) (dust extractor not supplied).
This will provide excellent dust extraction on the workpiece.
Check that all the parts are properly connected.
Important. The vacuum cleaner you use for the extraction work must be suitable for the workpie-ce material.

5.1.2 Fitting the dust collection box (Fig. 3/Item 7)

Slide the dust collection box (7) onto the connec-tion for the dust extraction box (6). To remove the dust collection box, proceed in reverse order.
The dust is transferred straight from the grinding/sanding belt into the dust collection box.
To empty the dust collection box (7), open it with the two clips (a). The top part of the dust collec-tion box (7) can now be removed. Then clean the dust collection box (7) thoroughly and place the top part back in position. As you do so, make sure that the top part is fully inserted all around and is locked into position with the two clips (a) .
The dust collection box (7) can now be refi tted.

Important!
For health reasons it is imperative that you use the dust collection box or a dust extraction system via the dust extractor adapter!

5.2 Changing the grinding/sanding belt (Fig. 4-5/Item 12)

  • Pull the clamping lever (9) outwards in order to release the tension from the grinding/san-ding belt.
  • Pull the worn grinding/sanding belt off the drive rollers (11).
  • Push the new grinding/sanding belt onto the drive rollers.
  • Make sure that the running direction of the grinding/sanding belt (see arrow on the inside of the grinding/sanding belt) is the same as the running direction of the cordless belt grin-der/sander.
  • Press the clamping lever (9) to the rear in or-der to tension the grinding/sanding belt.

5.3 Adjusting the position of the belt (Fig. 6/Item 10)

  • Hold the belt sander/grinder with the sanding/grinding plate at the top.
  •  Switch on the belt sander/grinder. • By turning the setting screw (10) the belt position should be set so that the sanding/grinding belt is at the center of the two drive rollers.

6. Starting up

6.1 Switching ON/OFF (Fig. 7)

To switch on:
Press the ON/OFF switch (5).

Continuous operation:
Secure the switch (5) with the locking button (4).

To switch off :
Press the ON/OFF switch (5) briefl y.
The machine can be operated on a temporary or permanent setting.

6.2 Setting the belt speed (Fig. 8/Item 3)

You can select the belt speed by turning the setting knob (3).

PLUS direction: Increase belt speed

MINUS direction: Reduce belt speed

6.3 Stationary use (Fig. 9-10)

You can use the belt grinder/sander in stationary mode.
To do so, use the two clamps (13) to fasten the belt grinder/sander on a strong and level worktop or similar. The two fastening points (b) must be used for this purpose.

6.4 Instructions for use

Warning! Never hold the workpiece you wish to sand/grind in your hands. Secure the workpiece on a sturdy surface or using a vise.

  • Allow the belt sander/grinder to start before you place it on the workpiece.
  • Do not switch off the belt sander/grinder as long as the sanding/grinding belt is in contact with the workpiece.
  • Always hold the belt sander/grinder with both hands whilst it is in use.
  • Always sand wood in the direction of the grain.

7. Replacing the power cable

Danger!
If the power cable for this equipment is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its after-sales service or similarly trained personnel to avoid danger.

8. Cleaning, maintenance and ordering of spare parts

Danger!

Always pull out the mains power plug before starting any cleaning work.

8.1 Cleaning

  • Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth or blow it with compressed air at low pressure.
  • We recommend that you clean the device immediately each time you have finished using it.
  • Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents; these could at-tack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensu-re that no water can seep into the device. The ingress of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock.

8.2 Carbon brushes

In case of excessive sparking, have the carbon brushes checked only by a qualifi ed electrician. Danger! The carbon brushes should not be rep laced by anyone but a qualifi ed electrician.

8.3 Maintenance

There are no parts inside the equipment which require additional maintenance.

9. Disposal and recycling

The equipment is supplied in packaging to pre-vent it from being damaged in transit. The raw materials in this packaging can be reused or recycled. The equipment and its accessories are made of various types of material, such as metal and plastic. Never place defective equipment in your household refuse. The equipment should be taken to a suitable collection center for proper disposal. If you do not know the whereabouts of such a collection point, you should ask in your local council offi ces.

10. Storage

Store the equipment and accessories in a dark and dry place at above freezing temperature. The ideal storage temperature is between 5 and 30 °C. Store the electric tool in its original pa-ckaging.ckaging.

For EU countries only
Never place any electric power tools in your household refuse.
To comply with European Directive 2012/19/EC concerning old electric and electronic equipment and its implementation in national laws, old electric power tools have to be separated from other waste and disposed of in an environment-friendly fashion, e.g. by taking to a recycling depot.

Recycling alternative to the return request:
As an alternative to returning the equipment to the manufacturer, the owner of the electrical equipment must make sure that the equipment is properly disposed of if he no longer wants to keep the equipment. The old equipment can be returned to a suitable collection point that will dispose of the equipment in accordance with the national recycling and waste disposal regulations. This does not apply to any ac-cessories or aids without electrical components supplied with the old equipment.

Please note that batteries and lamps (e.g. light bulbs) must be removed from the tool before it is dispo-sed of.

2. The guarantee services cover only defects due to material or manufacturing faults on the new product which you have bought in the European Union from the undermentioned manufacturer and are limited to either the rectifi cation of said defects or the replacement of the product, whichever we prefer. 3. Our guarantee does not cover:

  • Damage to the equipment caused by failure to comply with the installation/assembly instructions or by unprofessional installation; damage caused by failure to comply with the operating instructions (e.g. connection to the wrong mains voltage or current type); damage caused by failure to comply with the maintenance and safety regulations; damage caused by exposing the equipment to abnormal environ-mental conditions; damage resulting from poor care and maintenance.
  •  Damage to the equipment caused by misuse or incorrect applications (e.g. overloading the equipment or using non-approved attachments or accessories); damage caused by foreign bodies (e.g. sand, stones, dust, ….) getting inside the equipment. Damage in transit; damage caused by force or external  influences (e.g. by dropping the equipment).
  • Damage to the equipment or parts of the equipment which is owed to use-related, normal or otherwise natural wear. For example, batteries and battery packs are manufactured with a cycle limit for design-related reasons. Wear is negatively influenced in particular by load demands and charging speeds as well as exposure to heat, cold, vibration and impact.

4. The guarantee is valid for a period of 2 years starting from the purchase date of the equipment. Guarantee claims must be submitted before the end of the guarantee period and within two weeks of the defect being noticed. No guarantee claims will be accepted after the end of the guarantee period. The original guaran-tee period remains applicable to the equipment even if repairs are carried out or parts are replaced. In such cases, the work performed or parts fi tted will not result in an extension of the guarantee period, and no new guarantee will become active for the work performed or for any replacement parts fi tted. This also applies if on-site service is used.

5. To assert your guarantee claim, register the defective equipment at: www .Einhell-Service.com. You will need to provide proof of purchase of the new item of equipment. Equipment returned without such proof or without a rating plate are excluded from the guarantee services because of the lack of traceability. If the defect is covered by our guarantee, then either the item in question will be repaired immediately and retur-ned to you or we will send you a new replacement.

6. If you have taken the equipment with you to a diff erent EU country than where you bought it, we will arran-ge for a local service partner to provide the guarantee services. If you take the equipment outside the EU, the guarantee will not apply.

Of course, we are also happy to off er a chargeable repair service for any defects which are not covered or no longer covered by the scope of this guarantee. To take advantage of this service, please send the equipment to our service address. We draw attention to the restrictions of this guarantee concerning wear parts, consumab-les and missing parts as presented in the service information included in this operating manual.
