Smart, reliable thermal control

SAMSUNG-MZ-V8P1T0B-AM-M.2-Internal-SSD-fig2

The 980 PRO’s next-level performance is supported by exceptional thermal control. The SSD uses nickel coating instead of an external copper casing to help manage the controller temperature and employs a heat spreader label to provide effective thermal control for the NAND chip. Embedded with Samsung’s cutting-edge Dynamic Thermal Guard technology, the 980 PRO manages heat on its own automatically to ensure durable and reliable performance. To minimize performance fluctuations in the long haul, Samsung’s Dynamic Thermal Guard technology monitors 980 PRO’s temperature continuously and keeps it at the optimal level.

Putting two of them in raid 0 on a PCIe gen 4 motherboard, with the understanding that it is not feasible, might I anticipate read speeds of up to 14000 Mb/s?
Make sure you have two M.2 sockets that are on dedicated CPU lanes if you plan to use an NVMe M.2 raid 0. One M.2 on the CPU and one M.2 on the chipset share CPU lanes in most desktop computers. The genuine direct CPU channel M.2 drive cannot keep up with the M.2 chipset.

FAQ’s

  • Will the PS5 support this?
    • A beta OS/firmware upgrade for the PS5 that enables users to insert an additional M.2 into the expandable storage slot is presently available to a small group of customers. This is listed as compatible with/recommended.
  • What is certain To be honest, the 970 Pro has a 1200TB warranty. What does the 980 pro claim?
    • The TBW warranty on the 980 Pro is half that of the comparable 970 Pro. Because that SSD is utilized for more than just data storage, a lower TBW value could be crucial in some applications. Moreover, it serves as virtual memory. Many TBs might be written and read in a short amount of time if virtual memory is used intensively.
  • Any discernible differences between this and a gen 3 NVMe in terms of game loading times?
    • You won’t really notice a difference. It will only be a matter of seconds. Because of the excellent firmware on Samsung SSDs, its Gen 3 NVMe SSD actually boots up games faster than other brands’ Gen 4 SSD.
  • PCIe 4.0 is not yet supported by Intel. What advantages, if any, does the 980 provide when installed on an Intel motherboard with a PCI 3.0?
    • Expect somewhat high speeds from my HP Omen 15-dh1053nr, an Intel i7 Gen 3 machine on which I put the 980 Pro 1TB. You are constrained by Gen 3, however, I observed less latency and better smoothness in all of my processes than increased speed.
  • Why is the price of the 980 Pro lower than the 970 Pro?
    • Because the TLC NAND flash used by the 980 BPO has a 3-bit per cell, as opposed to The 970 Pro, which utilizes MLC flash, a more costly, two-bit Purcell.
  • Does the [tdbt ssd enclosure] fit the Samsung 980 Pro?
    • Yes, this would work if you’re using a fairly common thunderbolt enclosure (the majority of Tdbt enclosures I’ve worked with support the 80 mm length). You could save $30 and get a 970 EVO instead because tdbt only supports up to about 1000 MB read/write, which would result in a minimal speed decrease.
  • Is there an enclosure that will accommodate the heat sink-equipped model?
    • The PS5 slot accepts this model with the heatsink.
  • What exactly does “Single Unit Version” mean?
    • A “Single Unit Version” just includes the product and packaging; no further items are included (no manual, screws, etc.).
  • Will this fit on a motherboard that is ITX-sized?
    • You merely need to make sure that your motherboard has an M.2 slot; the size isn’t the problem here. If so, this can be put to use.
  • Does this support an Intel i7 ThinkPad P52?
    • Indeed, this SSD and your M.2 slot both have a 2280 form factor.
  • Will this drive function in my laptop, an HP Pavilion 15-cs2073cl?
    • The HP Pavilion 15-cs2073cl laptop does indeed function properly.
  • Suitable with the Intel Core i710700k?
    • I do have a Gen 10 i7, and this is working fine.
  • Does this support the Alienware X17R1?
    • The HP Pavilion Woth and Alienware X17R1 do indeed function properly.
  • Does this work with the PS5? Will it require a heatsink?
    • Since gaming consoles, especially the early versions of a new generation of consoles, are well known for having poor cooling, I would unabashedly state that a heatsink is a must. My first PS4 stopped working because the heatsink had expanded from overheating and was no longer making proper contact with the console.
