Product Usage Instructions
Safety Guidelines
- Persons intending to use the Kinetic Rope should consider completing a nationally recognized four-wheel drive training course or seek advice from a four-wheel drive club.
- The minimum breaking strength of the Kinetic Rope should be between 2 and 3 times the vehicle’s gross vehicle mass (GVM).
- Use the Kinetic Rope only for vehicle recovery purposes and not for lifting or conventional towing.
- Prior to each use, inspect the rope for any signs of damage such as fraying, cuts, abrasions, or chemical damage. Discard if damaged.
- Use a recovery damper or similar item to reduce unintentional rebound of the rope during use.
- Ensure all passengers are out of the vehicles and at a safe distance before attempting vehicle recovery.
- Never exceed the minimum breaking strength of the Kinetic Rope or any associated equipment.
Care & Maintenance
Air-dry the Kinetic Rope in the shade before storing it. Do not pack the
rope away when wet to prevent damage.
The Environment
Always consider the environmental impact of your recovery operations,
especially during wet weather which may cause damage to tracks.
WARNING INCORRECT USE MAY RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH!
- Vehicle OCCUPANTS and BYSTANDERS have been KILLED by flying projectiles (such as tow balls) when recovery straps and recovery ropes have been attached incorrectly.
- NEVER attach recovery straps or recovery ropes to vehicle fittings such as tow balls, tow bars, tie-down points or tow hooks.
- ONLY attach recovery straps and ropes to an APPROVED recovery point/device that is suitably rated for use with the strap or rope.
- BEFORE attempting a vehicle recovery all passengers must exit the vehicles and stand as far away as possible.
Warning
-
The Kinetic Rope is designed as a snatch type motor vehicle recovery device. Always follow product instructions. It is important to use the correct method to attach the motor vehicle recovery Kinetic Rope to a motor vehicle. Standard tow balls or vehicle tie-down points are not designed for this purpose and such usage may result in the Kinetic Rope or a vehicle component detaching from the motor vehicle, striking and seriously injuring or killing a person. Only attach the Kinetic Rope to a vehicle recovery point or device that is suitably rated for use with the rope (e.g. Bushranger recovery hitch rated to 5000kg). Incorrect use has previously resulted in serious injury and death.
-
Persons intending to use the Kinetic Rope should consider completing a nationally recognised four-wheel drive training course or contact a four-wheel drive club for comprehensive advice on the proper selection and use of the recovery ropes and straps.
-
The minimum breaking strength of the Kinetic Rope should be between 2 and 3 times the vehicle’s gross vehicle mass (GVM) of any vehicle it is used with.
-
The Kinetic Rope must be suited to the gross vehicle mass (GVM) of the lighter of the 2 vehicles used in the recovery process.
-
The Kinetic Rope must not be used for lifting or conventional towing.
-
Prior to using the Kinetic Rope, ensure that the rope is not damaged and is in a usable condition. Damage may include frayed material, loose stitching, cuts, abrasions, knotting and chemical damage. If, under inspection, the Kinetic Rope exhibits any of the above, discard immediately.
-
Note: The Kinetic Rope strength and stretch are significantly reduced when the strap is saturated with water.
-
An item such as a Bushranger recovery damper, heavy bag, blanket or similar must be draped over the Kinetic Rope during its use to reduce unintentional rebound of the rope.
Before attempting the vehicle recovery, passengers of the vehicles involved must -
Exit the vehicles and
-
Stand as far away from the vehicles as possible, (at least 1.5 times the length of the upstretched rope) and
-
Never situate themselves in the path of the vehicle performing the recovery.
-
Never exceed the minimum breaking strength (MBS) of the Kinetic Rope, the vehicle recovery point or the working load limit (WLL) of the shackles.
Definitions:
‘Minimum breaking strength’ for a motor vehicle recovery strap or rope,
means the minimum load necessary to cause the strap or rope to fail. ‘motor
vehicle recovery strap or rope’ means a recovery strap or kinectic rope, for
attaching to a bogged vehicle to tow it clear of the situation. ‘Gross Vehicle
Mass (GVM)’ for a motor vehicle means the maximum loaded mass of the motor
vehicle as stated:
- On the compliance plate, registration certificate, or build plate for the vehicle; or
- In the handbook for the vehicle; or
- In the documentation for the vehicle available from the vehicle manufacturer
Specifications
Safety & Inspection
- Prior to conducting a snatch recovery of a vehicle, it is mandatory that the Kinetic Rope is inspected for damage, this includes; frayed materials, loose stitching, cuts, abrasions, knots or chemical damage. If any of the above are sighted, the Kinetic Rope should be discarded.
- Kinetic ropes wear out over time, level of wear will depend on frequency of use, environmental conditions and recovery loads
- Ensure both vehicles are stationary and stable prior to commencing fitment of Kinetic Rope.
- DO NOT attempt conducting a snatch recovery of a vehicle that is unstable or in a position where a vehicle roll over may occur.
- DO NOT attempt to snatch recover a vehicle on a downward slope (for risk of recovered vehicle colliding with the lead vehicle).
- DO NOT attempt to snatch recover a vehicle where the body and body components are contacting the ground. All obstructions should be cleared or an alternative recovery method should be used, such as a winch.
- Never attempt to push either vehicle during a snatch recovery.
- Only use rated recovery points and bow shackles with an adequate rated capacity.
- Do not attach Kinetic Rope over the tow ball, tow bar or bull bar.
- A snatch recovery should be performed at a steady speed, in the lowest effective gear.
- Ensure there are good communication maintained between participants and bystanders. This may be best achieved by use of UHF radios.
- Be aware that excessive recovery attempts with the Kinetic Rope over a short period of time can cause a build-up of heat in the rope and potential failure may occur.
- NEVER use a “D” or Bow shackle to connect two or more Kinetic Ropes.
- Avoid kinks and twists in the Kinetic Rope.
- Keep the Kinetic Rope clear of all sharp and hot surfaces.
- As a safety precaution, an item such as a Bushranger recovery damper, heavy bag, blanket or similar must be draped over the Kinetic Rope during its use to reduce unintentional rebound of the rope. The Kinetic Rope carry bag has been designed as an effective damper for this purpose, alternatively, a BUSHRANGER damper blanket or other similar object can be used.
- When conducting a recovery, the two vehicles should be in as close to a straight line as possible. NEVER exceed the maximum steering angle of the vehicles as this significantly increases the load on the Kinetic Rope, straps and the vehicles.
- Equalizer strap(s) connected to the vehicle(s) front recovery points will distribute the load, reducing the risk of damage to the vehicle(s).
- Never drive over the Kinetic Rope as this will cause damage.
- If you have any doubts about whether the recovery procedure is within the Minimum Breaking Limit of your snatch strap, DO NOT USE IT
- Always observe instructions
Care & Maintenance
- Do not expose the Kinetic Rope to any petroleum-based products, acids or alkaline solution.
- Never store the Kinetic Rope in direct sunlight or wet/humid environments.
- Allow 24 hours before tightly wrapping the Kinetic Rope after recovery.
- Clean the Kinetic Rope with warm (pH Neutral) soapy water and allow it to dry in the shade. Never pack the Kinetic Rope away when wet.
The Environment
Always consider your impact on the environment. 4WDs and recovery operations
may cause long term damage to tracks, particularly during wet weather.
