ABOUT YOUR KLIPSCH PURCHASE

Your new Klipsch architectural speakers have been designed to deliver great sound while remaining unobtrusive wherever you install them. They feature a patent-pending horn array, which are two vertically stacked Tractrix Horn- loaded tweeters pointing in opposite directions. The result is a flush-mount speaker that creates enveloping ambient sound fields and localizing specific surround effects through the use of Klipsch’s proprietary Wide Dispersion Surround Technology (WDST). The careful alignment of the two controlled- directivity Tractrix Horn tweeters, angled opposite one another, yields an incredibly wide dispersion pattern. The R-5650-S is designed specifically for surround use in home theater applications.

In-Wall Speaker Placement

Designed to function in any standard wall, ceiling or drop ceiling, Klipsch in-wall speakers are engineered for years of performance. Minimum construction requirements call for drywall or other mounting surfaces to be at least 3/8″ thick. To maximize performance, speakers should be placed to either side of the listening position at an equal distance from the listener whenever possible. You may also install them behind or above the listening position and achieve good results.

Speaker Installation

For New Construction, skip to step #3

  1. Cut the appropriate size opening in the wall or ceiling using the template provided. If the template is not available, cutout dimensions are provided on the Klipsch website, klipsch.com. Sizes listed are minimum. If accuracy of cut cannot be achieved, you may add 1/4″ to each dimension. Be careful not to cut through any existing wiring or plumbing. Avoid compromising any fire stops between studs.
  2. Run speaker wiring (18 gauge minimum) to the openings. Be sure to comply with all building codes in your area.
  3. Attach the wire to the speaker using the wire’s color coding or markings as a guide to maintain proper polarity.
  4. Insert the speaker assembly into the opening and attach by tightening the four Phillips screws (see illustration). The frame’s four “dogs” will swivel out and “sandwich” the wall and frame together as they are tightened. If you use a power tool to tighten these screws, please use a low torque setting. Failure to do so could result in damage to your speaker.
  5. At this point, you may paint the speaker grille before attaching it to the speaker. Klipsch grilles are designed to accept most types of paint. Care should be taken to avoid excessive paint build-up in the grille perforations. 6. Press the grille into place. See back page for more illustrations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is mounting on the ceiling an option?****

Although it is a rectangle and was initially intended to be in the wall, it can be installed in the ceiling. The Klipsch ks7502 thx are an in-ceiling surround speaker designed specifically for surround sound.

How many watts is it?****

50 Watts @ 8 Ohms is the maximum power that the R-5650-S II can handle. It is advised to use an amplifier or receiver that can deliver about 100 Watts per channel at 8 Ohms while using this speaker.

As the sound object travels from front to back, does it “roll” across the horns? Do rear sounds from the horn towards the rear amplify, in other words?****

Two controlled dispersion Tractrix Horn tweeters are used in the R-5650-S II. Angled in the opposing directions. A broad dispersion pattern that emphasises movement and surround sound ambience is the end product.

Can I use these as side speakers if my other speakers are box speakers? I have a Klipsch RP450 centre, RP51 rear surrounds, and RP450 towers.****

With a Klipsch centre speaker and Klipsch left and right tower speakers, I’m using them as rear surround/satellite speakers. I fail to see why not.

Do these have a white cover, by chance? As  shown…or black as claimed? Thanks****

A white magnetic grill ought to be included with the R-5650-S II.

Can you use this speaker with Dolby Atmos? Do you suggest the rp-500sa or this speaker for the finest dolby atmos quality?****

For an atmos configuration, these would be the only surround speakers. A sub, two surround speakers, two elevation speakers, two from speakers, and a centre speaker are required. a minimum of a  atmos setup.

Does the back cover exist?****

There is no “back-box” or back cover included with the R-5650-S II.

The grill may it be painted?****

Yes, but in order to prevent clogging when painting, the scrim or fabric backing material needs to be removed from the rear of the grill. If you need any additional help, please get in touch with Klipsch Support at 1-800-554-7724 or through the support page on our website.

If put to the left and right of the main seating position and mounted horizontally, will the acoustics be ruined for the audiophile?****

The acoustics ought to be good! If your receiver has a mic adjustment feature, I recommend using it to fine-tune the speakers so that they transmit clearly.

Can I install these on either side of my television as my front speakers?****

A speaker for a surround channel with large dispersion is the R-5650-S II. The vast pattern of high frequency sound coming from the surround channel location is dispersed by the two tweeter horns, which are positioned in opposite directions and operate simultaneously.

Can anyone comment on the difference in sound between these and a “single” horn tweeter model when used as the rear surrounds in a 5.1 setup?****

I think you’ll agree that these speakers are much better than single-horn tweeter speakers.
