ASSEMBLY

The only tool you’ll need to assemble your vacuum cleaner is a medium sized flat-head screwdriver.
CAUTION: Do not plug in your vacuum cleaner until you are familiar with all instructions and operating procedures.

Attach handle to vacuum

1. Locate the handle inside the box. Remove the screw packet taped to the handle

2. Stand the vacuum upright and from the top of the unit, slide the base of the handle firmly into the opening at the top of the vacuum body

3. Push the handle all the way into the opening and ensure that the handle fits firmly to the vacuum body and is unable to turn

4. Insert the provided screw into the existing hole, attaching the handle to the body of the vacuum. Tighten securely with a screwdriver

Attach tools and accessories

1. Slide the extension wand and crevice tool into the storage clip on side of vacuum
2. Slide the dusting brush into the storage clip on back of vacuum
3. Store the Pet TurboBrush on the back of the handle by lining up the TurboBrush with the hook on the base of the holder then push forward to snap into place
   

CAUTION : Before using your vacuum, make sure that the dirt container is in the locked position and that all filters (pre-motor and HEPA post- motor) are in place. Do not operate your vacuum without these filters.

OPERATIONS

POWER SWITCH
The Power Switch is located at the back of the vacuum. Gently press the Power switch with your foot to switch the machine on and press again to switch off. For the exact location of the Power Switch please refer to page 5 of this guide.

NOTICE : For above-floor cleaning, the floor brush will continue to rotate but is raised off the floor. To prevent carpet damage, do not lean on the vacuum or let the powerfoot tilt forward.
CAUTION : To avoid personal injury and to prevent the cleaner from falling when cleaning stairs, always place it at the bottom of the stairs.

HANDLE POSITIONS

Press the handle-release pedal (located on the lower left side of the vacuum) with your foot to place your vacuum into the cleaning position.

1. Upright – For storage and above-floor cleaning with tools
2. Normal Cleaning – Press handle-release pedal once. Position used for most household floor cleaning tasks
3. Low Cleaning – Use for reaching under low furniture such as tables, chairs or beds. Avoid dropping the handle too low, always ensure the front Turbo-brush stays in contact with the surface you are vacuuming

TIP

Before cleaning under low furniture, check area first for objects that might harm the unit or block the vacuum hose.

HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT

The rotating floor brush on your vacuum can be adjusted to clean several floor surfaces.

NOTE: For optimal cleaning performance, adjust to the lowest practical setting.
If your cleaner is difficult to push or if the rotating brush is grinding into the carpet too heavily, adjust to the next higher setting. Always ensure the machine is in the Upright position before adjusting the height setting.

1. Turn height adjustment knob to desired setting:

Bare Floors – For non-carpeted, indoor surfaces
Lowest Setting – For flat pile carpets
Medium Setting – For short and medium pile carpets
High Setting – For Medium to high pile carpets
Max Setting – For plush pile carpet

TRANSPORTING CLEANER

1. To move your vacuum cleaner from room to room, put the handle in the upright position, tilt the cleaner back on its rear wheels and push forward

2. The cleaner can also be moved by using the carry handle

SPECIAL ON-BOARD TOOLS

Your vacuum is not only a powerful carpet and rug cleaner, it’s also a versatile above-floor vacuum cleaner when you select one of the special tools.

1. Raise the handle to the upright position

2. Grasp the hose wand handle to separate from hose wand base

3. Attach tools by firmly pushing onto vacuum hose, hose wand or extension wand. Be sure the hose and tool fit snuggly together by twisting tightly

Dusting Brush:
Use the dusting brush to dust furniture, blinds, books, lamps, shelves and baseboards
Crevice Tool:
Use in tight narrow spaces
Extension Wand:
Use with desired attachment for a longer reach
Hose Wand:
Use with desired attachment for a longer reach or for cleaning hard to reach places
TurboBrush Pet:
Use rotating brush action for small flat areas such as cushions and beds

NOTE : Press gently down and pull towards you in a raking motion.
Too much pressure will cause the brush to stop rotating.

TIP
Hair, string and small objects can block the vacuum hose or tools. Check them occasionally for obstructions.

NOTE : These tools are designed to remove pet hair from upholstered or carpeted surfaces. They should not be used on pets.

CAUTION : The rotating floor brush continues to rotate while tools are in use. To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts, always move the cleaner with the carrying handle. Always place vacuum cleaner on the floor with handle in upright position when using tools. Never place your fingers under the cleaner when it is running. Never place vacuum foot on furniture or uneven surfaces. Do not place vacuum cleaner close enough to objects to pull them into rotating brush.

POWER CORD USAGE

1. To use your vacuum, remove the cord and plug it into an electrical outlet. For your convenience, there is a quick-release cord wrap for easy cord removal. There is also a cord clip that is located at the back of the upper handle where you can attach the cord while vacuuming
2. When you are finished cleaning, turn vacuum cleaner off
3. Unplug power cord by grasping the plug (NOT the cord) and disconnect from outlet
4. Loop power cord around cord wraps on back of vacuum cleaner. Be sure to first return the quick-release cord reel back to its original position before wrapping the cord

MAINTENANCE AND CARE

To maximize your cleaning performance and extend the life of your vacuum, it is very important that you empty your dirt container and check and clean your filters frequently.
Perform the following maintenance steps:

1. Empty the dirt container when the dirt reaches the “Full” line on the container, or more frequently to prevent overfills. For best performance, empty after each use
2. Check the pre-motor filter and post-motor HEPA filter at least twice a month, clean or replace as needed
3. Replace the post-motor HEPA filter every three to six months
   NOTE: More frequent filter cleaning may be necessary if you are vacuuming new carpet, fine dust, or have allergy concerns. Follow the instructions on the following pages to perform these simple maintenance steps

WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn power switch OFF and disconnect plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting checks.

TIP To maximize cleaning performance, check and clean or replace all filters as suggested.

EMPTY DIRT CONTAINER

The dirt container should to be emptied before the dirt reaches the “Full” line on the container.

1. Unplug the vacuum from electrical outlet

2. Lift the Dirt Tank from the vacuum cleaner body by lifting the Dirt Tank Release upwards and pulling the Dirt Tank towards you

3. The dirt release catch is located at the back of the Dirt Tank. Hold the dirt tank over a dust bin and press the release catch from the top downwards to release the bottom lid

4. Shake the Dirt Tank or gently tap it on the side to ensure all dirt and dust is released into the dust bin

5. Close the bottom lid and return the Dirt
   Tank to the Vacuum cleaner by inserting the bottom part first and then gently clip the top back in place

NOTE: Emptying the dirt container after every use will help prevent over- filling and ensure that the vacuum is ready to go the next time you clean.

CLEANING THE PRE-MOTOR AND POST-MOTOR HEPA FILTER

1. Unplug the vacuum from electrical outlet

2. The pre-motor filter protects the motor from dirt particles.
   
   It is located in the top of the Dirt Tank.
   Remove the Dirt Tank as explained in the previous section. Lift the front clip (located underneath the Dirt Tank Release) to remove the foam filter and clean it

3. The post-motor HEPA filter assists in the filtration process to return clean air to the room. It is located in the main body of the vacuum cleaner underneath the Dirt Tank. With the Dirt Tank removed, turn the dial clockwise and lift up. Remove the HEPA filter by grasping the tab and pulling upwards. To clean the HEPA filter gently tap it on a hard surface or the side of the dust bin. DO NOT WET THE HEPA FILTER
   

NOTE: The pre-motor filter may be hand washed in cold water.
Rinse well and air dry thoroughly before replacing.
NOTE: The post-motor filter is a white, pleated HEPA filter. THIS FILTER IS NOT WASHABLE and must be replaced when it becomes dirty.

NOTE: This product is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use. Vacuuming of dust from products like plaster, concrete or ashes will damage the motor and void the warranty.
WARNING: Do not operate cleaner with damp or wet filters or without all filters in place.

CHECK ROTATING FLOOR BRUSH AND DRIVE BELT

You should check your vacuum cleaner’s rotating floor brush and drive belt regularly for wear or damage. You should also clean the brush and brush ends of string, hair and carpet fibers.
This type of debris can wrap around the brush and hamper its ability to effectively clean your carpet. Also remove any debris that has accumulated under the brush cover.

1. Unplug the vacuum from electrical outlet

2. Place handle in low position and turn vacuum cleaner over so bottom side is facing up

3. Remove the five screws marked on the picture to the right and gently lift the base cover from the machine

4. Grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift
   

5. Clean string, hair and other debris from rotating floor brush, paying particular attention to brush ends

6. Clean string, hair and other debris from motor pulley and drive belt areas
   WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts, turn vacuum cleaner off and disconnect power plug from electrical outlet.

7. Check drive belt carefully for wear, cuts or stressed areas

8. Check air passageway for obstructions. Remove debris from this area

9. Insert front edge of the brush cover and rotate into place.
   Fasten the latches and replace the five screws

REPLACE DRIVE BELT

1. Unplug the vacuum from electrical outlet
2. Remove rotating floor brush from vacuum cleaner (Steps 1-4 of check rotating floor brush and drive belt), remove and discard old drive belt
3. Place new drive belt over motor pulley and loop other end over rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles
4. Pull the rotating floor brush firmly into position, stretching the drive belt, and place ends of rotating floor brush down into the slots on sides as shown. Alignment of brush ends in slots may be necessary to fully insert the brush
5. Turn rotating floor brush by hand several times in the direction of motor pulley. If properly installed, drive belt will center itself on rotating brush crown
6. Insert front edge of brush cover and rotate into place. Snap the front latches in place and replace the five screws

NOTE: It is important that you use only genuine Bennett Read replacement belts.
Generic belts may not meet the exact specifications required to keep your vacuum operating at its peak performance. The use of unbranded belts could lead to early failure of the vacuum and could void your warranty.

MAINTAINING PET TURBO BRUSH

The Pet Turbobrush should be checked regularly for blockages or debris wrapping
around the brush.

1. Remove the Pet Turbobrush from hose or back of vacuum

2. Twist collar anticlockwise to unlock the top cover. Lift the back end slightly and pull the top cover backward to release the front holding pins. Do not use excessive force, the top cover should slide out easily

3. Remove the brush from the belt and clean debris

4. Replace the brush inside the belt and place ends into slots on sides as shown

5. Reposition top cover making sure to line up inside tabs at the front with the opening on the cover before closing. Twist collar clockwise to lock

CLEARING CLOGS

Low suction or poor pick-up may be due to a clog in the vacuum cleaner.
If you notice a change in the sound of the motor, check for clogs.

1. Unplug the vacuum from electrical outlet

2. Empty Dirt Container

3. Check upper tank for build up or blockages

4. If you notice blockages in the upper tank, remove the inner cyclone (see section below “Cleaning the upper tank”)

5. Grasp the hose wand and separate it from the hose wand base.
   Check for blockages in the base, the wand or in the hose

6. If the clog persists, follow the instructions for “Checking the rotating floor brush and drive belt” on pages 11 and 12 and inspect the air passageway for obstructions

CLEANING THE UPPER TANK

1. Remove the lid of the Dirt Tank by twisting the lid to the “unlock” position. Separate the Dirt Tank and cyclone assembly

2. Wipe the inside of the upper tank and the cyclone assembly with a damp cloth moistened with water or a mild cleaning solution

3. To thoroughly clean the filtration disk and inner cyclone, turn the entire cyclone assembly upside-down, then turn the filtration disk anticlockwise to release. Lift the inner cyclone and filtration disk up to remove

4. The inner cyclone and filtration disk may be washed using a mild detergent. Be sure it is completely dry before reassembling or you may damage the unit.

5. Once cleaning is complete, reassemble by aligning the slots on the inner cyclone with the tabs of the centre column as shown on the right. Then place the filtration disk over the centre column and slide it straight down on the top of the inner cyclone. Line up the tabs with the slots and turn clockwise to lock

USE THIS TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE AS A FIRST STEP TO RESOLVE ANY PROBLEMS YOU MAY BE EXPERIENCING.
Any faults not covered in the below table should be resolved by an authorized service representative.

This guarantee applies to product used for personal or domestic use only, and specifically excludes any malfunction or defect arising from commercial use.
