Product Usage Instructions
- Before using the BENNETT READ TOUGH 12 vacuum for the first time, carefully read the user guide.
- Ensure that all attachments listed in the user guide are included. If any attachments are missing, return the unit to the retailer immediately along with the packaging and proof of purchase.
- To assemble the vacuum, follow these steps:
- Remove the unit from its packaging.
- Remove the attachments from their packaging.
- Dispose of the packaging responsibly, as some of it may pose a choking risk to small children. Please recycle all plastic packaging.
- Insert the caster wheels into the holes provided at the bottom of the dirt/water tank. Ensure that the wheels go in all the way.
- Operate the BENNETT READ TOUGH 12 vacuum only in accordance with the instruction manual. Failure to do so may result in decreased cleaning performance and could invalidate the guarantee.
- Refer to the product view diagram in the user guide to familiarize yourself with the various parts and components of the vacuum.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING YOUR VACUUM.
When using your Tough 12, basic safety precautions should be observed,
including the following:
- Use the system only for its intended use
- To protect against a risk of electric shock, do not immerse any part of the system in water or other liquids
- Do not allow cord to touch hot surfaces
- Do not run appliance over cord
- Do not operate the system with a damaged cord or plug, or if the appliance or any other part of the system has been dropped or damaged. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble or attempt to repair your Tough 12. Return the unit for examination and repair.Incorrect reassembly or repair can cause a risk of electrical shock or injury and will not be covered by the guarantee
- Keep hair, loose clothing, ngers and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts
- Do not use to pick up ammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline or use in areas where they may be present
- Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes
- Use extra care when cleaning on stairs
- Do not use the Tough 12 without the Filter Bag in place, except when vacuuming up liquids (Refer to page 4-7 for operating instructions). When using as a Wet Vacuum take caution not to over-ll the tank with liquid to avoid risk of electrical shock and damage to your Tough 12. Refer to page 7 of this manual for tank capacity and instructions
- This appliance is intended for household use only. Follow all user instructions in this manual
- Do not leave the Tough 12 plugged in when unattended
- Unplug the electrical cord when not in use and before servicing
- Not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge
- Do not allow to be used as a toy
- Close attention is necessary when used near children, pets or plants
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance
- Use only as described in this manual. Use only manufacturer’s recommended accessories
- Do not pull cord, use cord as a handle, close a door on cord, or pull cord around sharp edges or corners
- Turn off all controls as applicable before unplugging from electrical outlet
- Do not unplug by pulling on cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord
- Do not handle plug or vacuum with wet hands or operate without shoes
- Do not put any objects into openings
- Do not use with any opening blocked
- Keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything else that may reduce airow
- Store your Tough 12 indoors in a cool, dry area
- Keep your work area well lit
- Keep end of hose, wands and other openings away from your face and body
- Using improper voltage may result in damage to the motor and possible injury to the user. Correct voltage is listed on rating label. For operation on a 220-240V, 50/60Hz power supply only
- Use only identical replacement parts

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:
Your Bennett Read Tough 12 comes almost fully assembled and requires very little set up:
- Remove unit from packaging
- Remove attachments from their packaging
- Some of the packaging poses a choking risk to small children. Dispose of the packaging responsibly. Please recycle all plastic packaging
- Before using for the rst time check that all attachments listed are included. If the unit is incomplete, return to the retailer immediately. Take entire unit, packaging and proof of purchase to the store where your purchase was made
- Insert the Caster Wheels (6) at the bottom of the Dirt/Water Tank (4) into the holes provided. Ensure the wheels go in all the way
OPERATIONS
Only operate your Bennett Read Tough 12 in accordance with the instruction manual. Failure to follow these instructions will result in decreased cleaning performance and may invalidate your guarantee.
DRY VACUUMING:
Your Bennett Read Tough 12 Vacuum is perfect for vacuuming carpets, tiles,
mattresses, upholstery, curtains and car upholstery. Setting up your Bennett
Read Tough 12 for dry vacuuming:

Remove the Motor Unit (2) from the Dirt/Water Tank (4) by pushing the Locking Clips (3) outwards
-
Ensure that the Filter Bag (16) is securely installed in place as shown below:
- Replace Motor Unit and push the Locking Clips inwards to lock closed as shown below:
- Insert the Flexi-Hose (10) into the Vacuum Function Hose Port (5) and turn clockwise to lock in place as shown below:
- Join the 2-Piece Extension Wand (12) together as shown below:
- Attach the 2-Piece Extension Wand (12) to the Flexi-Hose Handle (11) as shown below:
- Attach the Dry Floor Nozzle Attachment (15) to the Floor Nozzle (13) as shown below:
- Attach the Floor Nozzle to the end of the Extension Wand as shown below:
- Alternatively, when dry vacuuming, attach the Combination Crevice/Upholstery Tool (19) to suit your cleaning needs:
TIP:
To rmly attach the Extension Wand and accessories together, give a slight
twist once joined.
- Plug the Power Cable (9) into a wall socket
- Switch your Tough 12 on using the Power Switch (1)
- Vacuum in different directions across your surfaces for best results After each cleaning session it is advisable that the Filter Bag (16) be emptied and thoroughly rinsed and dried before storing.
WET VACUUMING:
Your Bennett Read Tough 12 can also suck up liquids* in and around your home.
Please note that the Bennett Read Tough 12 is NOT a carpet deep cleaner.
Carpet deep cleaning should be done with a specialised deep cleaner such as
the Bennett Read ONE.
Setting up your Bennett Read Tough 12 for wet vacuuming:
- Remove the Motor Unit (2) from the Dirt/Water Tank (4) as explained on page 4
- Remove the Filter Bag (16) from the Dirt/Water Tank in the reverse order as shown in step 2 on page 5
- Install the Wet Vacuum Foam Filter (17) as shown below:
- Fit the Foam Filter Securing Lock (18) and turn clockwise until secure as shown below:
IMPORTANT: The Filter Bag MUST be removed before vacuuming any liquids
- Replace the Motor Unit (2) and secure the Locking Clips (3) in place
- Insert the Flexi-Hose (10) into the Vacuum Function Hose Port (5) and turn clockwise to lock in place
- Attach the Wet Floor Nozzle Attachment (14) to the Floor Nozzle (13) as shown below:
- Attach the Floor Nozzle to the Extension Wand (12):
- Plug the Power Cable (9) into a wall socket
- Switch your Tough 12 on using the Power Switch (1)
- Vacuum the wet spill / liquid* from surface using a pulling action (squeegee blade at front)
- When you are done, disconnect the Flexi-Hose (10) from the Motor Unit (2) by grasping the end of the hose nearest the Hose Port (5), turning it anticlockwise and then pulling the hose outward
- Take the Dirt/Water Tank (4) to a sink or disposal area
- Push the Locking Clips (3) outwards to unlock the Dirt/Water Tank
- Lift the Motor Unit (2) from the Dirt/Water Tank and place it carefully on the ground
- Carefully pour out the liquid from the Dirt/Water Tank
- Rinse the Dirt/Water Tank under running water and dry it completely
WARNING:
- Do not vacuum up boiling hot, ammable or combustible liquids
- Your Bennett Read Tough 12 is equipped with a oat valve located at the bottom of the motor unit which will partially shut off the suction as soon as the tank reaches capacity. Immediately switch off the machine and empty the tank before continuing.
BLOWER FUNCTION:
Your Bennett Read Tough 12 has an additional function that allows you to blow
away leaves and grass that collect on your covered patio areas, or sawdust in
home workshops. Simply plug in and blow the dirt away.
Setting up your Bennett Read Tough 12 to use the blower function:

Remove the Motor Unit (2) from the Dirt/Water Tank (4) by pushing the Locking Clips (3) outwards

Ensure that the Filter Bag (16) is securely installed in place (see page 4 & 5 for Dry Vacuuming)

Replace the Motor Unit and secure the Locking Clips
-
Insert the small end (opposite end to handle) of the Flexi-Hose (10) into Blower Function Hose Port (7), turn clockwise to lock in place

Attach the 2-Piece Extension Wand (12) to the Flexi-Hose Handle (11) (optional)
-
Plug the Power Cord (9) into a wall socket
-
Switch your Tough 12 on using the Power Switch (1)
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
EMPTYING THE FILTER BAG:
- Disconnect the Flexi-Hose (10) from the Motor Unit (2) by grasping the end of the hose nearest the Hose Port (5), turning it anticlockwise and then pulling the hose outward
- Take the unit to a disposal area
- Push the Locking Clips (3) outwards to unlock the Dirt/Water Tank (4)
- Lift the Motor Unit from the Dirt/Water Tank and place it carefully on the ground
- Remove the Filter Bag (16) by gently pulling upwards and then outwards as shown below:
- Slide the Filter Bag open (as shown below) and empty the contents into a disposal area:
- Rinse the Dirt/Water Tank under running water and dry it completely
CLEANING THE FILTER BAG:
The Filter Bag can be washed in warm water with a mild detergent. Allow the
Filter Bag to dry completely before returning it to the machine for the next
use.

The machine will only switch on after it has cooled down sufficiently. Permanent damage will be caused to your machine if you continue to use it without addressing the root cause of the overheating as explained above
