a. For newborns, your baby should be in a fetal position with their feet together, knees spread slightly, and knees level with their belly button.
CAUTION: Do not pull your baby’s legs to a straight position. Your baby will start to naturally straighten their legs over the first 10+ weeks. As your baby grows, their hip joints should naturally and gradually loosen, allowing their feet to spread into a seated position where the knees drop lower to be level with their hips. b. For babies whose legs and hips naturally fall or spread apart to the side, their thighs should be supported by the fabric of the carrier. -
Until your child has head and neck control (generally around 4 months), make sure the Head Support Buckles are buckled to the Shoulder Straps, with the Head Support in the Up position. The top of your child’s ears should be below the top of the Head Support. For extra support and comfort, you can adjust the tightness of the Head Support with the Head Support Zippers. (see pg. 15)
-
Check your baby often and make sure they are centered in the carrier, their thighs are in a supported position, and their head is upright (and not resting on their chest). Proper head placement, with at least two fingerswidth clearance under your baby’s chin, will avoid airway constriction and allow your baby to breathe properly.
