INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS / NOTES:
- Do not use excessive force when removing OE mirror from windshield.
- Do not push fish wire too far into dash to avoid damage to existing components.
- Do not place wire harness against objects with sharp edges that may cause electrical shorting.
- On vehicles equipped with “A” pillar air bag, verify mirror harness path remains clear of air bag. Harness should follow, and be tied to existing OEM wiring with tie wraps.
- Verify that power harness path will not interfere with brake, clutch, emergency brake or air bag operation. Use tie wraps to hold the wiring away from critical locations.
Perform the following pre-installation steps:
- Place kit components on a clear, padded surface and inspect for damage, defects, or missing components.
- Record customer’s programmed Radio/AM/FM/SAT stations and trip computer (if applicable).
**Preparation
**
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
a) Remove Relay cover by grasping rear of cover and pulling upwards. Disengage
the locking tab at the front cover. (Fig. 1-1)b) Remove two (2) 10mm bolts from battery cover. Disengage locking
tabs and remove cover. (Fig. 1-2)c) Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove driver-side scuff plate.
a) Use fiberstick to disengage clips. (Fig. 1-3)3. Remove driver-side kick plate.
a) Use 4mm screwdriver to release center of plastic pushpin.
b) Grasp kick plate at rear and pull out towards rear of vehicle. (Fig.
1-4)4. Remove driver-side door
seal.
a) Pull back past top of A-pillar trim. (Fig. 1-5)5. Remove driver-side A-pillar trim.
Do not use excessive force. A-pillar could be damaged.
a) Pull out the top portion of A-pillar trim towards passenger-side of
vehicle until A-pillar connector is extended approximately ½”.
b) Use needle nose pliers to grasp tab of A-pillar connector. Rotate tab 90
degrees and push down through slot in A-pillar trim. (Fig. 1-6)c) After A-pillar trim is detached from connector, pull
firmly to detach lower clips.
A-pillar connector will remain attached to vehicle body. (Fig. 1-7) If A-pillar connector is damaged, it must be replaced.
Mazda Part Number D651-68-162A.
6. Remove OE mirror.
a) Insert fiberstick between right side of factory rainsensor cover and
windshield. (Fig. 1-8)b) Push in on left side of
rain-sensor cover and gently pry right side away from windshield to disengage
clips.
c) Insert fiberstick in between two halves of rain-sensor cover at the top and
pry both halves away from each other. (Fig. 1-9)d) Remove both halves of rain-sensor cover.
FOR 2010 – 2011 MODEL YEAR VEHICLE’S WITH RAIN SENSORS, BEGIN AT STEP a, PAGE
4.
IF RAIN SENSOR COVER IS NOT PRESENT, SKIP TO STEP k, PAGE 5.
Take special care not to damage rain sensor cover, as cover will be reused
during this installation.
e) Using 4mm screwdriver, slide the two (2) locking tabs downward on the rain-
sensor. (Fig. 1-10) Ensure both tabs are fully
extended downward. Failure to extend both tabs downward may result in breaking
the retaining tabs on lens, requiring windshield replacement.
Lens will remain mounted to windshield.
f) Insert fiberstick at corner of rain-sensor and gently twist and pry
downward to remove. (Fig. 1-11) Do not pry or damage rain-sensor lens during mirror removal.
Do not damage or use excessive force on inner components of rainsensor lens.
Damaging rain-sensor lens will require replacement of the entire windshield.
g) To complete removal of OEM mirror, it is easier to use special tool shown
on page 14 of instructions. Figure 1-12 shows mirror removal using special
tool.
h) Insert OEM mirror removal tool into notch at bottom of mirror mount and
slide upward between windshield mounting button and mirror mount. (Fig.
1-12) It is recommended to perform
this operation from the passenger front seat.
i) Push on locking tab while performing the next step. (Fig. 1-13)
j) Grasp mirror mount at the tube, and gently pull upwards parallel to the
windshield to carefully slide mirror off windshield button. DO NOT rotate mirror, turn mirror side to side, or pull mirror
away from the windshield. Rotation, side to side movement, or pulling of
mirror on windshield button could damage or break the windshield and button,
requiring windshield replacement.
FOR ALL 2012 MODELS AND 2010-2011 VEHICLE’S WITHOUT RAIN SENSOR COVER.
k) Insert 4mm screwdriver into notch at bottom of mirror mount and slide
upward between windshield mounting button and mirror mount. (Fig. 1-14)
l) Grasp mirror mount at the tube, and gently pull upwards parallel to the
windshield to carefully slide mirror off windshield button. DO NOT rotate mirror, turn mirror side to side, or pull mirror
away from the windshield. Rotation, side to side movement, or pulling of
mirror on windshield button could damage or break the windshield and button,
requiring windshield replacement.

allow for routing of EC mirror power harness.
a) Locate locking tabs on backside of rain sensor cover. (Fig. 7-1) Ensure locking tabs on back side of cover are not
damaged.
b) Using a 5/16” drill bit, drill a hole in location shown. (Fig. 7-2) Ensure EC mirror power harness and rain sensor harness
are not pinched or damaged during re-assembly of rain sensor cover. Damage
could result in EC mirror or rain sensor malfunction.
c) For vehicle’s equipped with a rain sensor, re-install rain sensor onto
vehicle.
d) Re-install rain sensor cover, ensuring EC mirror power harness is routed in
same location as rain sensor harness.
e) Route EC Mirror power harness through drilled hole. Push rain sensor cover
pieces together and ensure tabs are locked and that the wire is not pinched or
damaged. (Fig. 7-3)2. Trim excess off all tie wraps.
