Fitting the Blades (Fig. 2)
- Fit the bottom blade / “Comb” (2a) to the Shearing Machine (2b) and lightly tighten the Comb Screws (2c).
- Slacken the Tension Nut (2d) and fit the top blade / “Cutter” (2e) between the Comb and the Prongs (2f).
- Locate the Prong cones in the Cutter holes (2g).
- Hold down the Fork (2h) and screw down the Tension Nut until light resistance is felt.
- Set the “Lead” and the “Throw” (see below) and then fully tighten the Comb Screws.
- Set the “Tension” (see below).
Warning! Injuries and material damage due to incorrect blade fitting.
- Only operate the appliance after the blades have been correctly fitted, positioned and tensioned.
- Switch off the appliance and disconnect it from the mains before removing or fitting the blades.
Setting the Lead (Fig. 3)
Slide the Comb (3a) backward/forwards to ensure that there is between 1.5 to 2
mm from the Cutter tips (3b) to the Comb face bevel (3c).
Setting the Throw (Fig. 4)
Slide the Comb (4a) left / right to ensure that the Cutter (4b) moves evenly
across the Comb and overlaps the outer teeth by an equal amount (4c). Then
check that the Lead is still correct before fully tightening the Comb Screws.
Setting the Tension (Fig. 4)
Screw down the Tension Nut (4d) until light resistance is felt. Then screw
down further, between 1/8 turn (minimum) and 1/4 turn (maximum). Note that
insufficient Tension will cause wool to collect under the Cutter, reducing
cutting performance.
Warning! Injuries and material damage due to incorrect Tension.
- The Tension must not be reduced/removed whilst the machine is in operation as the cutter may fly off.
- Excessive Tension will overheat the blades.
Lubrication (Fig. 2)
- Oil the blades (2p) every 5-10 minutes use “R30” or good quality engine oil. Brush them clean of grit and dirt.
- Frequently oil the Prong swivel joints (2q).
- Frequently oil the Crank Roller and both ends of the Tension Pin via the front oil hole (2r).
- Frequently oil the Fulcrum Post via the top oil hole (2s)
- Occasionally replace the grease inside the Sliding Sleeve (2t) using “R2” grease. Do not grease the Tension Nut.
Mains operation (Fig 4.)
- Connect the mains plug to the mains socket.
- Switch on the appliance by sliding the on / off switch (4e) in the forwards direction (4f).
- To select the fast speed slide it further forwards (4g).
- After use, slide it backwards (4h) to switch the appliance off.
Caution! Damage due to incorrect power supply.
Only operate the appliance with the voltage stated on the nameplate.
Overload protection (Fig 4.)
The appliance includes an overload protection fuse that will switch the motor
off if the blades become jammed. If the overload protection fuse has
activated, check the blades and fleece for blockages. Clear any obstructions
and replace any damaged blades. To reset the overload protection fuse, slide
the switch backwards past the off position (4j). Switch position 0 = Off
- Switch position I = Normal speed
- Switch position II = Fast speed
- Switch position ↻ ▼ ↺ = Reset

Regularly check and clean the filter (5a). Pull up on the tab (5b) to remove it. Hold it up to the light to check the wire mesh for blockages. Wipe or brush away any dirt and debris (5c). Ensure the filter is clean and dry before refitting.
Gear lubrication (Fig. 6)
After every 100 hours use, remove the gearbox covers (6a) and wipe away hair
and used grease from the gear wheel (6b). Check for wear and broken teeth. If
required, remove the shear-head (6c). Re-coat the gears with clean grease (R2
or equivalent). Refit shear-head and gearbox covers before operating.
