General Safety Warnings for Trimmers
- Read all safety warnings, instruc- tions, illustrations and specifica- tions provided with this machine. Failure to follow the safety warnings and instructions may result in elec- tric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
- Save all safety warnings and in- structions for future reference.
- The term machine in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (cor- ded) machines or battery-operated (cordless) machines.
Work area safety
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite acci- dents.
- Do not operate the machine in ex- plosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Machines create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating the machine. Distractions can cause you to lose control over the machine. Never op- erate the machine while people, es- pecially children or pets, are nearby.
Electrical safety
-
The plug of the machine must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodi- fied plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
-
Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refri- gerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
-
Do not expose the machine to rain or wet conditions. Penetration of water in the machine increases the risk of an electric shock.
-
Never use the cord for carrying, hanging up or unplugging the ma- chine. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords in- crease the risk of electric shock.
-
When operating a machine out- doors, use an extension cord suit- able for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
-
When operating the machine in damp environments is unavoid- able, use a residual current device (RCD). The use of a residual current device (RCD) reduces the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are do- ing and use common sense when operating the machine. Do not use a machine while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alco- hol or medication. A moment of in- attention while operating the ma- chine may result in serious personal injury.
- Wear safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Wearing safety equipment such as dusk mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. En- sure the switch is in the off‑posi- tion before connecting to power source and/or battery, picking up or carrying the machine. Carrying machines with your finger on the switch or plugging in machines that have the switch on invites accidents.
- Remove any adjusting key or span- ner before turning the machine on. A spanner or a key left attached to a rotating part of the machine may res- ult in personal injury.
- Avoid abnormal body posture. Provide for a secure stance and keep your balance at all times; never run. This enables better con- trol of the machine in unexpected situations.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from mov- ing parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. Always wear sturdy footwear and long trousers when operating the machine.
- If devices are provided for the con- nection of dust extraction and col- lection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust- related hazards.
- Do not assume a false sense of se- curity and disregard the safety regulations for machines, even if familiar with the machine through multiple use. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.
Use and Handling of the Machine
-
Do not force the machine. Use the correct machine for your applica- tion. The correct machine will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
-
Do not use the machine if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any machine that cannot be con- trolled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
-
Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the machine before making any adjustments, changing accessor- ies, or storing machines. Such pre- ventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the machine accident- ally.

Noise/Vibration Information
Lawn trimming
|
Edge cutting
---|---
Noise emission values determined according to EN 50636-2-91.
Typically the A-weighted noise levels of the product are:
– Sound pressure level| dB(A)| 77| 76.5
– Sound power level| dB(A)| 87| 89
– Uncertainty K| dB| =3| = 3
– Vibration emission value a h| m/s 2| 7| 7
– Uncertainty K| m/s 2| =1.5| = 1.5
The vibration level given in these instructions has been measured in
accordance with a standardised measuring pro- cedure and may be used to
compare power tools. It can also be used for a preliminary estimation of
exposure to vibra- tion.
The stated vibration level applies to the main applications of the power tool.
However, if the power tool is used for differ- ent applications, with
different application tools or poorly maintained, the vibration level may
differ. This can signific- antly increase the exposure to vibration over the
total work- ing period.
To estimate the exposure to vibration accurately, the times when the tool is
switched off or when it is running but not ac- tually being used should also
be taken into account. This can significantly reduce the exposure to vibration
over the total working period.
Implement additional safety measures to protect the oper- ator from the
effects of vibration, such as servicing the power tool and application tools,
keeping the hands warm, and organising workflows correctly.

Charging the Battery
- Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the charger.
The battery is equipped with temperature monitoring that al- lows charging
only in the temperature range between 0 °C and 35 °C. In this manner, a high
battery service life is achieved.
Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery
capacity, completely charge the battery in the battery charger before using
for the first time.
The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its
service life. Interrupting the charging procedure does not cause damage to the
battery.
The “Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)” protects the lithium- ion battery
against deep discharging. When the battery is empty, the product is switched
off by means of a protective circuit: The product no longer operates.
Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after an auto- matic shut-off of
the product. The battery could become damaged.
Observe the notes for disposal of the battery.

button (1) and pull the battery out.
Charging Procedure
The charging procedure starts as soon as the mains plug of the charger is
plugged into a socket outlet and the battery (2) is inserted onto the charger
(12).
Due to the intelligent charging method, the charging condi- tion of the
battery is automatically detected and the battery is charged with the optimum
charging current, depending on battery temperature and voltage.
This gives longer life to the battery and always leaves it fully charged when
kept in the charger for storage.
Meaning of the Indication Elements (AL 1810)
Flashing battery charge indicator
The charging process is indicated by the flash- ing of the battery charge
indicator.
Solid light on battery charge indicator
A solid light on the battery charge indicator signals that the battery is
fully charged or that the temperature of the battery is not within the
permitted charging temperature range, and can therefore not be charged. The
battery is charged as soon as the allowable charging temperature range is
reached. When the battery is not inserted, a solid light on the battery charge
indicator signals that the mains plug is inserted in the plug socket and that
the charger is ready for operation.
Meaning of the Indication Elements (AL 1830 CV)
