Important Notes

  • At least one existing key that works with the vehicle is required to use the EZ InstallerTM. If there are no working keys, the Simple Key should be returned to the retailer.
  • An emergency keyblade is included in the Simple Key, which can be used to unlock the doors if the smart key’s battery fails. It can be cut at any local hardware store.
  • The vehicle’s battery should be in good condition and fully charged before pairing the new key. It is recommended to turn off headlights, radio, A/C fan, etc. to minimize battery draw during the process.
  • The EZ Installer should not be used while the vehicle is in motion. It should be unplugged from the OBD port before driving. The Simple Key only provides the original remote features of the vehicle, regardless of the buttons included on the key. It does not add any new remote features.
  • A tamper-evident security label is installed over the EZ Installer connector for security. If the label is missing, damaged, or shows the word VOID, the Simple Key should be exchanged for a new one at the retailer.
  • You MUST have at least one existing key that already works with your vehicle in order to use the EZ Installer™. If you have no working keys, return the Simple Key to the retailer where it was purchased.
  • The emergency key blade should be cut at your convenience. This key blade is inside the new Simple Key and can be used to unlock the doors should the battery in the smart key fail. It can be cut at any local hardware store.
  • Vehicle battery should be in good condition and fully charged prior to pairing the new key. Turn off headlights, radio, A/C fan, etc. to minimize battery draw during the process.

  • Only original remote features will work, regardless of buttons included on the Simple Key. This key does not add remote features that your vehicle did not have before.
  • For your security, a tamper-evident security label is installed over the EZ Installer connector. If this label is missing, damaged, or the word “VOID” appears on the EZ Installer, please exchange this Simple Key for a new one at the retailer where it was purchased.
  • Before pairing, familiarize yourself with the Simple Key’s compatibility with the make, model, and year of your vehicle on page 3.

Before pairing, it is important to check the Simple Key’s compatibility with the make, model, and year of the vehicle.

Product Usage Instructions

Let’s Get Started:
The setup process for the Simple Key involves two steps: ACTIVATION and PAIRING. It is crucial to follow these steps in order to successfully set up the key. Skipping a step may result in the key not working properly, requiring the setup process to be repeated.
Simple Key requires two steps: “ACTIVATION” and “PAIRING.” It is important to follow these steps in order to successfully complete setup. If you skip a step, the key WILL NOT work properly, and you’ll have to repeat the setup process. Find your ACTIVATION CODE in the following chart by referencing your vehicle’s make, model, year and the button configuration of your key’s remote.

Activation:

Follow the steps below to activate your new key:

  1. Simultaneously press the LOCK and PANIC buttons on the remote. The light under the left bottom button will illuminate and stay on.
  2. Referencing the chart on page 3, use the LOCK button to enter the first digit of your ACTIVATION CODE, the PANIC button to enter the second digit, and the UNLOCK button to enter the third digit.

Note: The ACTIVATION CODE can be found in the compatibility chart provided on page 3 of the user manual.

Key Pairing:
Once you have activated your key, follow the steps below to pair the key to your vehicle:

  1. Proceed to STEP 2 (of 2) KEY PAIRING, which should be detailed in the user manual.

Button Abbreviations:
S = Suspension, RS = Remote Start, T = Trunk or Rear Hatch

NOTE: If your key has a red shell, use activation code 121.

STEP 1 (OF 2) KEY ACTIVATION

Follow the steps below to ACTIVATE your new key. Once you have activated your key, follow STEP 2 (of 2) KEY PAIRING to pair the key to your vehicle.

  1. First, simultaneously press the LOCK and PANIC buttons on the remote. The light under the left bottom button will illuminate and stay on.

  2. Using your ACTIVATION CODE found in the chart on page 3, enter the first digit using the LOCK button, the second digit using the PANIC button, and the third digit using the UNLOCK button.
For example, KEY CODE 314 is entered by pressing the LOCK button three (3) times, the PANIC button one (1) time, and then the UNLOCK button four (4) times.

  3. Now, press the LOCK button on the remote.

    • The light will now blink back the ACTIVATION CODE you originally entered. If this does not match, go back to Step 1 to start over. For example, the indicator light for KEY CODE 314 will blink (3) times, pause, blink one (1) time, pause, and finally blink four (4) times.
    • If the light blinks rapidly, this indicates an error. Go back to ACTIVATION step 1 and retry the steps using your ACTIVATION CODE.
NOTE: You may re-enter activation codes anytime before the key is paired to your vehicle. After the key is paired to your vehicle, do not attempt to re-enter or change the button code. This will cause the key to not work.
  4. Move on to STEP 2 (of 2) below to PAIR the key to your vehicle.

STEP 2 (OF 2) KEY PAIRING

Instructions have timing requirements. If you wait too long between steps, your vehicle’s computer may time out, requiring you to start over. Once you begin the pairing procedure, move at a quick and even pace.
NOTE: If the EZ Installer is left in the vehicle’s on-board diagnostic (OBD) port for more than 5 minutes, an alarm will sound reminding you to remove it.
NOTE: If at any point the EZ Installer continues to beep rapidly, please refer to the FAQ section for more information.

  1. Find your vehicle’s make, model, and year in the Compatibility Lookup on page 3. Turn the dial on the EZ Installer to the position listed for your vehicle’s make, model, and year.
    • NOTE: One working key and the new key should be present during the pairing process.
  2. Enter the vehicle and ensure all doors are closed.
  3. Begin with the vehicle in PARK and the engine OFF.
  4. Turn hazard lights ON.
  5. Using an existing, working key, start the car.
  6. Remove the security label from the EZ Installer and insert it firmly into the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port located under the dash.
    • NOTE: The location of your vehicle’s OBD port can be found in your vehicle owner’s manual.
  7. Wait up to 8 seconds and listen for 3 quick beeps from the EZ Installer.
    • NOTE: If you hear a series of more than 3 rapid beeps, an error has occurred. Please see the Frequently Asked Questions to learn more.
  8. Turn the ignition off.
  9. To continue, press and release the EZ Installer button.
  10. Press the UNLOCK button on the new remote 10 times at 1 second intervals. (Tip: You can sync your pressing of the button with the blinking of your hazard lights.)

  15. Test all keys.
  16. Turn hazards off.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: The EZ Installer beeps 8 times after pushing the button to start the pairing process and will not pair the new key.
A: Your vehicle allows a maximum of 8 paired keys. If the vehicle already has 8 keys paired to it, a new key cannot be paired. Q: Can I use the same EZ Installer on other vehicles?
A: No, the EZ Installer will be locked to the first vehicle it is used on. You may add more keys to the same vehicle again as needed, but it will not work on different vehicles. If the EZ Installer sounds 2 beeps at 1 second intervals, then beeps rapidly, this signifies that the device has already been used on another vehicle. Visit CarKeysExpress.com or your local retailer to purchase additional keys.

Q: The EZ Installer sounds 2 or 3 beeps at 1 second intervals 3 times, then beeps continuously.
A: When problems occur during the pairing process, the EZ Installer will beep an error code, followed by continuous faster beeps. The number of error beeps corresponds to specific error codes, explained below.

Please contact Car Keys Express customer service at 888-598-8910 for any questions.

Q: The new key won’t pair to my car.
A: If the EZ Installer doesn’t pair the key to your car, most likely an incorrect dial position was used. In this case, the EZ Installer will beep continuously. Check the compatibility section on page 3 to confirm the correct dial position for your make, model, year, and button configuration of your original key. If the key still won’t pair, please contact customer service at 888-598-8910.

Q: The EZ Installer was unplugged during the pairing process.
A: The EZ Installer must remain plugged into the on-board diagnostic (OBD) port until pairing is complete. If the EZ Installer becomes unplugged during the pairing process, turn the ignition to the OFF position and begin the pairing process again.

Q: The vehicle won’t start with the new key or old keys after attempting to pair.
