Connecting to WiFi
Downloading the app
- The Moda Nexus is designed to work with the Smart Life app.
- Scan the code below to go to the app. Press install and follow the app’s instructions to create an account.
- NOTE – The Smart Life app is a constantly evolving third-party system. This guide was correct at the time of printing but may differ slightly from future versions.
- The app is designed to work on Android or iOS but older software versions may affect app presentation and performance.
Connecting to the app
- Before pairing, ensure your mobile device is connected to your WiFi network. This must be a 2.4GHz network. If you have a 5.0GHz router, you will need to switch to the 2.4GHz band if this does not happen automatically.
- Open the app and press the “+” icon in the upper right-hand corner.
- The list of appliance types will load. Swipe down the list to find “Small Home Appliances” and select “Heater (WiFi)”.
- You will be prompted to select your WiFi network and enter your password. This is where you can check that the band is 2.4GHz. You can follow the link in the app for advice if you need help with this.
- Check that the heater is in pairing mode, as shown by the flashing symbol on the display. If the symbol is not flashing, hold down the key.
- Check the frequency with which the symbol flashes and skip to step a. (if the symbol is flashing quickly) or b. (if the symbol is flashing slowly).
- The heater offers two connection modes, EZ and AP mode. This makes it easier for the heater to connect to different devices: EZ mode is faster, but may not work with all devices; AP is universal but requires some extra steps.
- When the symbol flashes fast, the heater is ready to connect on EZ mode. When the symbol flashes slowly, the heater is ready to connect on AP mode. You can change the pairing mode by holding down the key.
- a. The symbol flashes fast – twice per second. This is EZ or Smart mode. See Figure 5 below.
- Select “Confirm the indicator is blinking”, then tap “Blink Quickly”.
- The heater will begin connecting.
- Figure 5: Connecting the heater to the app using EZ Mode
- The symbol flashes slowly – once per second. This means the heater is in AP mode. In this mode, your device uses a WiFi hotspot to connect. See Figure 6.
- Select “Confirm the indicator is blinking”, then tap “Blink Slowly”.
- Press “Go to Connect” to go to your WiFi settings.
- Connect to the WiFi hotspot named “Smart Life-XXXX”.
- Once connected to the hotspot, return to the app and click
- Confirm Hotspot Connection”. The heater will begin connecting.
- Figure 6: Connecting the heater to the app using AP Mode
- Once you have reached the connecting screen, it should take 20-30 seconds for the heater to be successfully added to the app. “Device added successfully” will display on the app and the symbol on the heater display will solidify.
- Tap the pen icon to change the name of the heater.
Troubleshooting
If the heater does not connect on the first attempt:
- Repeat the steps above but try the alternate pairing method. Hold down the key to switch pairing mode.
- Reset the heater by turning it off at the wall socket, waiting a few minutes, then switching it back on. Hold down the key if you need to reset or change the pairing mode.
- Ensure your router has a strong internet connection.
- Make sure both the heater and your smart device are in range of your router.
- Ensure WiFi and Bluetooth are enabled on your smart device.
- Make sure the app has registered successfully.
- Make sure your smart device is connected to the same WiFi network as that to which you are attempting to connect your heater.
- Ensure you are connected to a 2.4GHz WiFi band. See instructions within the app if you are currently connected to a 5GHz band.
- Check any local restrictions on your WiFi. WiFi networks in public places such as hotels and airports may require extra identification steps.
Using the App
- NOTE – The Smart Life app is a constantly evolving third-party system. The guide below was correct at time of printing but may differ slightly from future versions.
Home Overview

- You can check how many hours remain on the timer (rounded up) by tapping the icon. To cancel the timer, press and choose “Cancel”, or turn the heater off and on again.
- You can also use the timer in standby mode to set a countdown to turn the heater on. This feature is only available through the app.

- If you toggle the heater to full light using the app when the display has already timed out and dimmed, it will briefly engage at full brightness and then immediately switch down to half light level.
Timer
- The scheduled events timer allows you to set events that turn the heater on or off at specified times of the day.
- On the timer page, you can choose a set time and choose whether the event will turn on or off the heater. You can also decide whether the event should be single-time or reoccurring, and you can add notes or toggle on notifications.
- The heater will beep when it is turned on or off by a scheduled timer event. When the heater turns on after having been turned off, it will start in the heating mode it was in before it last turned to standby.
