Display symbols and buttons

| Comfort| | Eco| | Anti-Frost
---|---|---|---|---|---
| Connected to WiFi| | Device is heating| | Keypad locked
| Timer in progress| | Toggle WiFi /light level| | Toggle mode
| Set timer| | Standby / On| | Decrease / increase

4 – 2 | Standby Mode

The heater first starts in standby mode, where the display shows only the and symbols. In this mode, the heater will not heat. You can use the **key to switch between standby and the heating modes.
4 – 3 | Heating Modes**

Tap the ****key to switch the heater on. Tap to switch between modes. The displayed icon will change accordingly, browsing through Comfort , Eco, and Anti-Frost .

4 – 3 – 1 | Comfort

When the display is showing the icon, the heater is in comfort mode. In this mode, the heater heats on full power to a constant set temperature. The thermostat measures the room temperature and switches the heating on and off accordingly. The icon displays when the heater is heating.
Set temperature can be adjusted using the and keys. The range is 6-40 °C. Note – comfort mode must be set at least 1 °C warmer than eco mode. If a comfort temperature equal to or lower than the eco temperature is selected, the eco temperature will automatically reduce.

4 – 3 – 2 | Eco

When the display is showing the ****icon, the heater is in eco mode. In this mode, the heater heats at half power to a constant set temperature. The temperature in eco mode is always at least 1 °C lower than in comfort, providing a low-heat, energy-saving alternative for when you are sleeping or out.
Set temperature can be adjusted in the range of 5-39 °C using the and keys, but be aware – if the eco temperature is set equal to or higher than the comfort temperature, the comfort temperature will automatically increase.

4 – 3 – 3 | Anti-Frost

When the display is showing the icon, the heater is in anti-frost mode. This is the mode to use when rooms will be empty for long periods – for instance, when you go on holiday. Anti-frost sets the heater to come on only when temperatures drop low when it will work at full power to keep the room warm enough to prevent pipes from freezing.
Anti-frost mode is set to 5 °C and is non-adjustable.

4 – 4 | Countdown Timer

The timer function offers a 1-24 hour countdown and works in all three heating modes. When the timer is set, the heater will run for the set period and then switch to standby mode. Switching heating mode does not cancel the timer; it will maintain the countdown and switch to standby when the set period elapses, no matter what mode is running.

Tap the icon to set the timer, repeatedly pressing the key to adjust from 0 to 24 hours in steps of one hour. The symbol will display to show the timer is in progress. To cancel the timer, double press the key. You can check how many hours remain on the timer (rounded up) by tapping the icon.

4 – 5 | Display Brightness

You can adjust the brightness of the display using the key. Repeatedly pressing the key cycles the display through the full light, half-light, and no light, where only the key displays.
When the display is on full light, it will automatically dim to half-light after 20 seconds, not in use.

4 – 6 | Child Lock

Press and hold the and keys to lock the display. The icon will appear, the display will dim and all keys will be locked. Press and hold the keys to unlock and the icon will disappear.

4 – 7 | Memory Function
In the event of power failure or disconnection, temperature settings will be remembered and the heater will restart on the mode it was previously running.

Connecting to WiFi

5 – 1 | Downloading the App
The Moda Opal is designed to work with the Smart Life app. Scan the code below to go to the app. Press install and follow the app’s instructions to create an account.

http://e.tuya.com/smartlife

NOTE – The Smart Life app is a constantly evolving third-party system. This guide was correct at the time of printing but may differ slightly from future versions. The app is designed to work on Android or iOS but older software versions may affect app presentation and performance.

5 – 2 | Connecting to the App

  1. Before pairing, ensure your mobile device is connected to your WiFi network. This must be a 2.4GHz network. If you have a 5.0GHz router, you will need to switch to the 2.4GHz band if this does not happen automatically.

  2. Open the app and press the “+” icon in the upper right-hand corner.
moda 12502323 Opal Electric Panel Heater - fig6

  3. The list of appliance types will load. Swipe down the list to find “Small Home Appliances” and select “Heater (WiFi)”.

  4. You will be prompted to select your WiFi network and enter your password. This is where you can check that the band is 2.4GHz. You can follow the link in the app for advice if you need help with this.

  5. Check that the heater is in pairing mode, as shown by the flashing symbol on the display. If the symbol is not flashing, tap to put the heater in standby mode and hold down the key.

  6. Check the frequency with which the symbol flashes and skip to step a. or b.
The heater offers two connection modes, EZ and AP mode. This makes it easier for the heater to connect to different devices: EZ mode is faster, but may not work with all devices; AP is universal but requires some extra steps. When the symbol flashes fast, the heater is ready to connect on EZ mode. When the symbol flashes slow, the heater is ready to connect on AP mode. You can change pairing mode by holding down the key.
    a. The symbol flashes fast – twice per second. This is EZ or Smart mode.
    i. Select “Confirm the indicator is blinking rapidly” and tap “Next”.
ii. Press “Next” to begin connecting.
moda 12502323 Opal Electric Panel Heater - fig7b. The symbol flashes slowly – once per second. This means the heater is in AP mode. In this mode, your device uses a WiFi hotspot to connect.
    i. Tap the mode setting in the top right corner.
    ii. Select “AP Mode”.
iii. Select “Confirm the indicator is blinking slowly” and tap “Next”.
iv. Press “Go to Connect” to go to your WiFi settings and switch to a hotspot named “Smart Life-XXXX”.
    v. Once connected to the hotspot, return to the app. The heater will begin connecting.

  8. Tap the settings icon to change the name of the heater.

Troubleshooting

If the heater does not connect on the first attempt:

  • Repeat the steps above but try the alternate pairing method. Hold down the key to switch pairing mode.
  • Reset the heater by turning it off at the wall socket, waiting a few minutes, then switching it back on. Hold down the key if you need to reset or change the pairing mode.
  • Ensure your router has a strong internet connection.
  • Make sure both the heater and your smart device are in range of your router.
  • Ensure WiFi and Bluetooth are enabled on your smart device.
  • Make sure the app has registered successfully.
  • Make sure your smart device is connected to the same WiFi network as that to which you are attempting to connect your heater.
  • Ensure you are connected to a 2.4G WiFi band. See instructions within the app if you are currently connected to a 5G band.
  • Check any local restrictions on your WiFi. WiFi networks in public places such as hotels and airports may require extra identification steps.

6 – 3 | Choose Mode
Tap the mode icon to choose the heating mode The three options correspond to the three modes on the control panel: comfort, eco, and anti-frost.

6 – 4 | Countdown Timer

Tap the timer icon and scroll through the menu to set the countdown period from 1 to 24 hours. The heater will run for the period selected and then switch to standby mode.

Switching heating mode or setting a weekly program does not cancel or override the timer; the countdown will be maintained and the heater will switch to standby when the set period elapses, no matter what mode is running. You can check how many hours remain on the timer (rounded up) by tapping the icon. To cancel the timer, press and choose “Cancel”, or turn the heater off and on again. You can also use the timer in standby mode to set a countdown to turn the heater on. This feature is only available through the app.

6 – 5 | Settings
Tap the icon to view and adjust the heater’s settings, which include the optional weekly program.

Tap the icon for settings that relate to the heater’s listing on the app, including its name, any automation it is included in, and the quality of its network connection.

6 – 5 – 1 | Child Lock
Use the child lock toggle in the settings menu to lock and unlock the heater display.
6 – 5 – 2 | Display Brightness
Use the “Light” toggle in the settings menu to switch the heater display from full brightness to no light.
Note – the half-light display setting can only be set as the active light level using the icon on the heater. However, the display will still dim to half-light level when left idle for 20 seconds on the full light level. If you toggle the heater to full light using the app when the display has already timed out and dimmed, it will briefly engage at full brightness and then immediately switch down to half-light level.

6 – 5 – 3 | Weekly Program
Select “Week Program Free” in the settings menu to configure a weekly program. You can use the program to schedule the heater to come on at comfort, eco or anti-frost mode at regular hourly slots across the week. The program takes effect as soon as you save it on the app; there is no “program mode” you need to select, your scheduled intervals will simply overwrite your current settings when the time arrives. Tap any slot in the weekly grid to see the mode menu. Tap comfort, eco or anti-frost to set the mode for that hour. Alternatively, you can tap a start and end slot before choosing your mode to set the mode for multiple hours. However, you don’t necessarily need to set modes for every hour of
every day; the heater will continue to heat at the last scheduled mode until it reaches a different mode block.

moda 12502323 Opal Electric Panel Heater - fig15

The countdown timer function can be used in combination with the weekly program. The schedule will run as normal while the countdown is running, stop when the heater switches to standby, and resume when it is switched on again.
Note – programmed intervals only engage at the time they are scheduled to start. This means if you set a program interval during the time it will cover – e.g., setting a comfort interval for 10-11 am at 10:30 – the mode will not be triggered until 10 am on that day in the next week. However, if you set the interval from 10-12 am, the heater would switch to comfort at 11 am. This is one benefit to setting modes to every hour of every day: the heater will always reset to follow the program on the hour.

6 – 6 | Voice Integration
The Smart Life app is compatible with both Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
To connect Alexa with Smart Life, download the Smart Life skill onto your Alexa app. To connect Google Home with Smart Life, go to “Set up a device” in the Google Home app. Tap “Works with Google” and select Smart Life from the list.
Depending on your device, your voice control app may discover your heaters automatically, or you may need to prompt it to do so. You can find quick guides for both Google Home and Alexa in the Smart Life app’s FAQ section.
Make sure you give the heater a name that’s easy for you to say and for your voice interface to understand. You can change the heater’s name in the Smart Life app.

Cleaning

The heater should be cleaned regularly to ensure fault-free operation. The most common cause of overheating is the build-up of dust or fluff within the heater. Prevent this from happening by regularly unplugging the heater and dusting the vents and grille.
Always disconnect the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove dust from the grilles. Clean the outside of the unit with a damp cloth and then dry it with a dry cloth. Never immerse the unit in water or let water drip into the unit. If the heater is going to be out of use for long periods, for example over summer, the best way to keep it clean and extend its lifespan is to put it into storage. Disconnect the appliance and allow it to cool completely before packing it in its original packaging and storing it in a dry and ventilated place. Do not place heavy items on top of the box during storage as this may damage the appliance.

Warranty

The Moda Opal carries a 2-year guarantee on the body, paintwork electrical components. Within the stated period, starting from the date the customer receives their unit, the supplier guarantees to repair or replace the unit where a fault is due to defects in materials or manufacturing. The warranty does not cover any defect arising from damage, negligence, usage outside the product’s intended purpose or fair wear and tear. The warranty is only valid when the unit has been used at the specified supply voltage, and in accordance with all conditions specified in this manual. The warranty will be void if the heater has been covered, tampered with or opened in any way, or if the rating label has been removed. The warranty does not cover failures and faults due to force majeure, accidental damage, mishandling, external impact, chemical agents or atmospheric phenomena, incorrect use of the device, the purchaser’s faulty electrical installations, transporting the device or problems caused by the device being handled by unauthorized persons. If the unit has been hardwired, an invoice may be required to confirm the work was carried out by a qualified professional. The manufacturer cannot accept responsibility for damage, loss or injury caused by incorrect installation, maintenance, cleaning or covering of the device. The warranty is a contract with the original purchaser and does not transfer if the unit is re-sold, gifted or inherited. Proof of purchase, including order number and order confirmation or invoice, will be required if a claim is made. The warranty covers only the model of heater shown on the purchase invoice. The warranty covers the repair or replacement of the defective product only and the manufacturer shall have no liability for installation costs or consequential losses however incurred. The unit is sold as a DIY product; whilst hardwiring is permitted within the terms of the warranty – provided evidence can be produced that the work was performed by a qualified installer – no compensations will be offered for the installer’s costs in the event of a claim. Claims must be made with the establishment where the device was purchased. This warranty does not affect the customer’s consumer rights.
