Adult Assembly Required
Slam X is a new and exciting twist on classic volleyball that serves up a whole new way to play! We recommend setting up in a large empty area at least 42ft. by 42ft. on either grass or sand. Next, choose between a 4 Way Court or 3 Way Court and follow the provided assembly instructions to start settling the score with friends and family in a game of Slam X!

NET HEIGHT: For a taller net use an Extender Pole during assembly in steps 2 & 4. A taller setup will be approximately 7’9″ and is great for advanced players. For beginners we recommend the standard 6′ 9″ height.

  1. Grab the Center Pole and clip the top and bottom of the Net as shown. Ensure you are clipping the ‘inside’ of the net to the Center Pole, and that the net is upright. The inside portion of the net does not have any logos and the GoSports logo on the outside portion will indicate if the net is upright. Continue attaching the remaining Nets.GoSports-V0B-SLAMX-01-R2-4-Way-Volleyball-Game-Set-FIG-4

    • 4 Way Court: Clip all 4 Nets onto the Center Pole.
    • 3 Way Court: Clip only 3 Nets onto the Center Pole.GoSports-V0B-SLAMX-01-R2-4-Way-Volleyball-Game-Set-FIG-6
  2. With all 3 or 4 Nets now connceted to the Center Pole grab one Stake Pole and connect it to the Center Pole. Ensure the pins engage to lock the poles together. Locate the centre of your court and firmly push the Center Pole into the ground. The pole should go about 8″ into the ground to be secure.GoSports-V0B-SLAMX-01-R2-4-Way-Volleyball-Game-Set-FIG-5

  3. Take one of the Outside Poles and clip the loose end of the Net onto the top and bottom rings of the pole. The bottom ring of the pole should be facing towards the centre pole.GoSports-V0B-SLAMX-01-R2-4-Way-Volleyball-Game-Set-FIG-8

  4. Grab another Stake Pole and connect it to the Outside Pole. Ensure the pins engage to lock the poles together.GoSports-V0B-SLAMX-01-R2-4-Way-Volleyball-Game-Set-FIG-7
Note: If you opted for the taller setup, remember to continue using the Extender Poles.

  5. Now walk the Outside Pole with the Net straight out until the net is taut and stake it firmly into the ground. (See Diagram on next page)

Repeat steps 3-5 with the remaining nets and Outer Poles to finish assembling.

  • 4 Way Court: Walk the poles out to create 4 equal zones.
  • 3-Way Court: Walk the poles out to create 3 equal zones. (See Diagram on next page)

4 WAY BOUNDARY SETUP

  • A: Take 2 Red Boundary Straps and slide one ring end of each strap over one Outside Pole (see illustration). To slide the rings over the pole, simply undo the pin pole connection and slide the rings on.
  • B: With the poles still disconnected, clip the Carabiner from the Tension Stake onto the top ring of the Outside Pole, and then reconnect the poles. Ensure the pins engage to lock the poles together.
  • Repeat the steps A – B on the All Outside Poles.
  • C: Grab all 4 stakes located in the middle of the Boundary Straps and walk each one out to create a 90-degree angle and stake them firmly into the ground.
  • D: Lastly, pull the Tension Stakes straight out to get the net taut then stake firmly into the ground. These may need to be reset during gameplay as the poles move.
  • E: Tension may need to be adjusted during the game. To adjust the tension, use the rope tensioner located on the stake rope. Grab the tensioner from the long edges, tilt it up towards the pole and then pull the rope to adjust the tension as needed.

Tip: It is helpful to use your free hand to pull on the rope to create slack for the rope to slide through the tensioner holes.

  • Repeat the steps A – B on the All Outside Poles.
  • C: Grab all 3 stakes located in the middle of the Boundary Straps and walk each one out to create a hexagon shape (see above) and stake them firmly into the ground.

Objective: The first player to score 12 points wins (must win by 2 points).

PLAYING THE GAME

Slam X™ is a new and exciting game that blends the fun of volleyball with classic 4 square gameplay. Similar to 4 square, players will compete to occupy the 4th square (Zone 4) where they can score points to win the game. During the game players will rotate forward (see Rotating Zones) to reach Zone 4.
Serving: The player in Zone 4 always serves to begin the rally. First decide how players will fill up the four Zones (youngest to oldest, rock paper scissors, etc.). The serve must travel diagonally across to the player in Zone 2. To serve, stand back near the boundary line and serve either underhand or overhand. The player in Zone 2 cannot spike the initial hit from the serve.
Volleying: Once the ball is served to Zone 2, the receiving player has one hit to return the ball over the net to any of the other 3 players. Volleying will continue until any player faults.
Scoring: Points are only awarded to the player in Zone 4. That player scores 1 point whenever any opposing player commits a fault (see Faults), such as failing to return the ball. Players will keep their points throughout the game (see Rotating Zones).

Rotating Zones: Whenever any player faults, that player returns to Zone 1 and the other players rotate. Therefore players will be competing to reach Zone 4, intending to remain as long as possible to score points.
Note: If playing with more than 4 players, set up a player queue near the court. Whenever a player is out, they will return to the queue and the next player in line will enter the game in Zone 1.

Tip: Players in a lower zone (1-2) should focus on attacking players in higher zones (3-4) so they can rotate forward.

RULES
Hitting the Ball: The ball can be hit underhand or overhand, but never held, palmed or thrown. If a player faults, they return to Zone 1.

Double Hit (optional): For games with beginners, players can choose to play with double hits. Meaning each player gets 2 hits to return the ball over the net. However, players cannot spike the ball on their 2nd hit.
Boundaries: Players must observe the court boundaries. Hitting the ball out of bounds will result in that player returning to Zone 1. Volleyballs hitting any part of the boundary line are in.

Faults: A fault occurs when play is stopped due to a rule violation such as:

  • The ball is hit improperly
  •  A return is hit into and does not clear the net
  • The ball is hit out of the court boundaries
  • The boundary lines are still considered in bounds
  • Failing to hit the ball before it lands
  • A player hits the ball before it crosses onto their side of the net
  • Touching the net

3-Way Game Rules
Rules and gameplay will be the same as 4-way games, except with 3 zones.

SLAM X Game Rules
The examples below illustrate how a rally can play out, and how players rotate through the zones during the game.
PLAYER IN ZONE 4 SCORES A POINT:
The illustration shows how the Player in Zone 4 may score a point. In this example, the serve is hit to Zone 2, and then the ball is hit to Zone 3 where that player faults. Whenever any player faults (see Faults), the player in Zone 4 scores 1 point. Additionally, because the player in Zone 3 faulted, they return to Zone 1 and the remaining players rotate as shown.

PLAYER IN ZONE 4 FAULTS

The illustrations show how the Player in Zone 4 may be removed from the scoring position, and how players rotate forward. In this example, the serve is hit to Zone 2, then the ball is hit to Zone 3, and then to Zone 4 where that player faults (see Faults). Now that the player in Zone 4 is out (they keep their points), they return to Zone 1. The remaining players then rotate forward as shown, with a new player in zone 4 now in position to score points.
