iJoist Web Reinforcer Installation Instructions

iJoist Web Reinforcer Kit

Kits includes:
2x Web Plates
2x Flanges
2x Spacers

14 x 1.5” Torx Structural Fasteners

1x) 3/16” Pilot Drill Bit
1x) Torx T25 Driver

Details:
Skyline iJoist Web Reinforcers when installed according to instructions are designed to restore the full strength of iJoists assuming the following:

Maximum floor dead load is 12psf and maximum live load is 40psf (PSF = Pounds per square foot).
The web substrate removed does not exceed the opening provided by the iJoist Reinforcer.
The joist spacing is 16” on center or less (if greater that 16” o.c. The Notch Reinforcer is still beneficial and may restore full strength to the iJoist depending on the length of the joist span (Please contact us for further information).
The iJoist sizing and span is in accordance with good engineering practices and/or tables provided in the building code.

NOTE: a) Construction adhesive is not required but can be used. b) Fasteners will protrude through the web substrate – this is acceptable, however wood may be used on the opposite side for fastener penetration.

Installation Instructions

Position the top Steel iJoist Flange on the top joist flange centered on the web opening below.
Install one fastener on each end of the Steel Flange leaving the fasteners loose enough to allow a small amount of play. (see page 2) Steel is HEAVY, and SHARP.
Protect your BRAIN with a HARD HAT and your hands with GLOVES. Better Safe than cut, bruised, bleeding, and sore, sitting in the ER. Drilling and driving fasteners overhead can cause particles of steel and wood to fall into your eyes. Wear EYE PROTECTION.
Attach a Web Plate on each end of the Steel Flange with the open side in toward the web opening. Leave the fasteners loose enough to allow a small amount of play.
Install the lower Steel Flange. Place the lower Flange over the lower end of the Web Plates. Install two fasteners at each end of the Lower Flange through the lower ends of the Web Plates. Leave the fasteners loose enough to allow a small amount of play.
Install a fastener at each end of the lower Steel Flange. Leave the fasteners loose enough to allow a small amount of play.
Place a the steel Spacers between the Web Plates and behind the steel Flanges. Install a fastener at each end. Leave the fasteners loose enough to allow a small amount of play.
Tighten all initially installed fasteners. Pre-drill and install remaining fasteners.
