Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are the basic surge protectors from Amazon any good?
This low-cost surge protector is not recommended for safeguarding electronics. However, that is not a good recommendation. It only clamps the voltage at 800V, which may cause harm to some electronics if the surge lasts longer than a few seconds, and it only provides 790 joules of protection.

  • What does it imply if the light on my surge protector blinks?
Due to the gradual deterioration of the indicator light, the ubiquitous power strips used in every type of home or business have a propensity to flicker. Only power strips with neon lighting, not those with LED indications, have this problem. Because the light is so faint, it is most easily noticed in a dimly lit room.

  • What does my surge protector’s red light mean?
Your surge protector is providing surge protection for your devices if the red protection signal is on. If the red light goes out, the surge protector has been damaged by a power surge and a replacement should be ordered.

  • What does a surge protector’s reset button do?
Surge protectors shut down as a defense mechanism to protect themselves and your gadgets when there are large surges. If your surge protector has shut down due to a power surge, you’ll need to reset it in order to restore electricity.

  • What is the difference between a surge protector and a power strip?
You can plug many gadgets into a single wall socket using a power strip. A surge protector is a sort of power strip that is meant to withstand power surges and protect your equipment.

  • Is there a difference between certain surge protectors and others?
The best sign of increased protection is a higher joule rating. Choose a surge protector with a joule rating of 200 to 400 at the very least. A joule rating of at least 1000 is required for sensitive or expensive equipment, such as computers, displays, and audio/video equipment.

  • Is it better to have a red or green surge protector light?
The yellow light should always be on since it signifies that power surge protection is in place. The green light on the surge protector shows that it is grounded. Although it is not essential, you should ground the surge protector and turn on the green light for optimal protection.

  • What lights on a surge protector should be turned on?
Should the ground light on my surge protector be turned on (green)? Yes. The ground indicator light must be turned on. There is a problem with the AC outlet into which the CyberPower surge suppressor is plugged if the LED is not lighted.

  • Is it better to have a surge protector light on or off?
Yes. The surge light must be turned on. This means that the CyberPower surge suppressor is in good working order. If the light is not illuminated, the surge protector has been subjected to a catastrophic surge and must be replaced.

  • How can I tell whether my surge protector is functioning properly?
Examine the “Protection Present” or “Protected” LED on the front of the surge protector’s casing to see if the internal surge protection components are working properly. Your surge protector is ready to go and ready to protect you when the next power surge happens if it is lighted green.
