A: Check if the power outlet is working by trying a different socket. Ensure the power cable is fully inserted into the small socket at the bottom of the epilator.
My Philips Epilator is noisy
- If you find your Philips epilator noisy while in use, rest assured that this is normal and nothing to worry about. The noise is caused by the opening and closing of the epilating discs. Also, the materials used to make the epilating discs is very hard for durability, which also makes the product quite noisy. If you notice that the sound changes during use, it is good to check if the product needs to be cleaned or charged. Watch the video below on how to properly use your epilator on dry skin.
- Epilator is unusually warm, is ineffective or is acting strange
- Pushing the product too hard on your skin may activate the internal protection system of the device. Applying intense pressure may cause skin irritation, warming of the device or cause the device to turn off.
- Apply gentle pressure and do not push too hard on the skin. While epilating, stretch the skin and move the epilator head slowly over the skin, allowing the discs to catch the hair. For best results, move the appliance against the direction of hair growth while ensuring that the head is in total contact with the skin.
- Always check the epilator head for cleanliness and damage. Ensure that the battery is charged. Watch the video below on how to properly use your epilator on wet skin.
My Philips Epilator is not working
Most wet and dry epilators can only be used cordless. For safety reasons, these epilators do not switch on while they are connected to an electric socket. Unplug your epilator from the electrical socket and try turning it on again. Watch the video below on how to properly use your epilator on dry skin.

The battery has run out
If your rechargeable epilator stops working during use or is running slower than usual, it might be that it needs to be recharged. Check the charging light of your epilator. If it is flashing orange, it means that the epilator needs to be recharged. Charge your epilator for at least 1.5 hours and then try using it again. Please note that charging instructions may vary per epilator model. For detailed instructions, please check your user manual.
The power outlet is not working
Make sure that the power outlet where you are charging or running your
epilator is working. Try charging or running the epilator in a different
electric socket to see if this works.
The power cable is not connected properly
Make sure that the power cable is completely inserted in the small socket at
the bottom of the epilator.
Not using the original charger or cable Make sure that you are using the
original Philips charger and/or cable which came with your epilator. If you do
not have the original charger or cable anymore then you can buy a new one from
our Philips website.
Overload protection is activated
It may be that something is stuck in the head of your epilator, which causes it to stop working. Check the epilator head and clean it properly. The overload protection can also be activated if you press your epilator too hard against your skin. Be gentle and just glide it over your body.
Overheat protection is activated
It may be that the overheat protection on your epilator has been activated. When this happens, you will see red lights flashing on your epilator and it will stop working. In this case, let the epilator cool down and turn it back on after a minute or so. If it still does not turn on and the red lights start flashing again, it means that it has not cooled down properly and you should wait a bit longer
My Philips Epilator does not remove hair properly
If your Philips epilator is not removing your body hair completely, follow our tips to improve the performance of your device or watch the video below on how to properly use your epilator on dry skin.
Hold the epilator at the correct angle
For your epilator to remove your hair properly, it’s important to hold it at
the correct angle. Check your epilator’s model number. If it starts with
BRE610 or BRE630 then hold the epilator upright at a 90° angle to your skin.
For other model numbers, it’s better to hold the epilator tilted slightly at a
75° angle. For more detailed usage instructions, please check the user manual
of your epilator model. Move the epilating head slowly over the skin while
epilating, to allow the discs to catch the hair. For the best results, move
the appliance against the direction of hair growth, making sure that the head
is in full contact with the skin.
Clean the epilator
Before using your epilator, always inspect its head to make sure that it looks clean. If you see some hair or debris stuck in the epilating discs of the epilator, remove them, and wash the head before use. Also make sure that your skin is clean and dry before epilating.
Trim your hair
- The optimal hair length for epilating is 3 – 4 mm. If your hair is longer than that, use the trimming attachment of your epilator to shorten the length of your hair.
- If your epilator does not come with a trimming comb, shave your hair and then wait for 7 days for the hair to grow long enough to be epilated. If you have tried the tips above and are still not satisfied with the results of your Philips Epilator, then please contact us.
